Video: Man tackle with Madden NFL 09
20
Put down Viva Pinata (game save first) and your too pink controller, because it's time to man up with some football roughness. EA just released a new Madden NFL 09 "Tackle Animations Trailer" that showcases this year's new tackling engine and a bunch of ... well, tackles. The game's tackling animations aren't bad at all and are some of the best Madden tackling animations to date. But we think the problem lies in with the fact that they are animations. Where's the oh so enjoyable ragdoll physics? Give us Euphoria-style goodness in Madden and we may actually support this new fangled "football" thing.

Looks the same as the last few years. I didn't see one new tackle. Is EA ever going to improve this game again? Looks like another $60 roster update with a few new celebrations.

Wow that is an embarassment to video games.
I am pretty sure Rockstar could create better tackling animations with Europhia in a month.

I could turn on GTA4 and tackle someone in the street with Niko that would look better than that.
That is really a shame that 09 wont have euphoria and they expect us to settle for this crap.
I bet madden 10?? 2010, whatever they hell they will call it will have something like that.
huge disappointment.

Why can't EA give us good gang tackles? And why must every tackle be the ball carrier breaking the tackle or him getting his head taken off? This game looks just like all the same shit we got for the last few years.

They need to bring in some outside elements of football into the game. For example: (Superstar Mode) Be able to buy houses, cars, etc. with the money that you would actually get if you were to play in the NFL. To me, that would be something worth buying, isntead of implimenting one new thing (tackle or catch more than likely) into the upcoming game.

The problem with that is that the NFL won't let them do anything that makes the NFL look bad. So if they added to superstar mode they couldn't make any bad things happen to you, like drugs or alcohol. Also this is the 20th anniversary year for Madden, maybe next year when they need a feature to pimp they will then add a little something to the superstar mode.

I agree. Backbreaker looks amazing as far as the animations go. I think I read that it is using Euphoria which explains why it looks vastly superior to this Madden crap.

For the first time in over 10 years, I'm not buying a football game this year. Madden is a joke and has not improved in any significant way at all over the last generation.
The higher res graphics are nice but far from what I would have hoped for this gen, and no where near as impressive as most other big budget games out there.
I absolutely despise EA and just about every game they make.
I hope the aquisition of Take Two somehow falls apart.
EA is slowly but surely destroying our favorite hobby.
I don't even want to think about how they will ruin the Mass Effect franchise and many others that they buy from here out.

Someone contact X360Fanboy and tell them they posted a Madden 08 video by mistake.

Are they ever going to get the Browns road uniforms right? I am sick of seeing them with white jerseys and brown pants. They never wear those.

Actually EA has done a great job this year compared to the previous ones.
Features announced so far:
- New commentary with Tom Hammond and Chris Collinsworth
- Revamped weather system
- In game stat tracker and replays
- Ability to do on the fly subs
- Customized TD celebrations
- Ability to return missed field goals
- Ability to have the camera zoomed out during a pass play to see every receiver at once.
I know all this stuff should already be in the game, but at least it's going to be in now. Better late than never. The other big sports franchises, NBA 2K, NBA Live, NFL Tour, MLB: The Show, NBA: The Life, MLB 2K, NHL 2K, etc. either made no big improvements this year or the game sucked to begin with.
For me, football comes before videogames, so it doesn't matter to me what they do every year. I'll likely still buy it. I like the updated rosters, but of course it doesn't hurt if they throw in a few more things. The franchise could be much worse than it is people. They could literally do nothing every year and still see decent sales. Let's be thankful they don't.
It seems like most of the people here either don't play sports games at all and jump on the Madden hating bandwagon to seem cool, and the rest either hate EA as a company and just despise their franchises out of spite (although almost no one despises Rock Band) or just like to annually bitch during every summer before the game comes out while they have their break before they go into high school.

Actually I've bought Madden for the past 10 years and won't be wasting my money this year.
They totally fucked up the transition to next-gen like they have their head so far up their own asses they didn't know a new console was coming.
Player-influenced animations are for the early 2000's man, give me a damn break.
If you want to say the word "innovation" make sure "Madden" isn't in the same sentence.

Actually NFL with Euphoria already exists. None other than NaturalMotion itself is developing Backbreaker for 360 and PS3. Check it out at:

WHY DOESNT MADDEN 09 HAVE THE OAKLEY VISOR LOGO OR NFL TEAM LOGO AT THE TOP (LIKE NCAA 09) NOR DO THEY HAVE THE SIDE CLAPS THAT ATTACH THE VISOR TO THE MASK? NCAA 09 SEEMS TO HAVE IT TOGETHER. WHY NOT MADDEN???

Yeah, I agree. Im a BIGGGG Browns fan and i hate the brown pants, to me, it makes the game very un realistic! but i have seen a screen shot once this year with the white on white road uniforms S Shaun Jones was defending a pass. So they may have it right this year, ive noticed they have black shoes as well.
