YouTube uploads integrated into PS3 games
Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. has announced that it is integrating the YouTube API to allow developers to add video uploading to their titles. The first game to utilize the new feature is Mainichi Issho, a free Japanese PSN title that debuted in November 2006. As seen in the screenshot above, you will now be able to upload in-game video to YouTube for sharing from inside the game.
No other title has been announced to use the YouTube API, either for a new title or updating an exiting game. Our dream? YouTube uploads with LittleBigPlanet. It seems like a no-brainer.

I like this. I like this A LOT. My question is will there be a limit of game footage we can submit and what kind of compression will it use? This could be a lengthy upload if not done correctly and could really not be worth putting up a video your little level or what have you.
bigsofty @ May 16th 2008 9:43AM
Stupid idea... you tube has enough spam without this...
BPM [SSBB: 5026 4120 1186] @ May 15th 2008 10:42PM
That is a pretty cool idea. Good move, Sony!
Platinum_Skeet @ May 16th 2008 12:38PM
Hopfully Sony does it soon because honestly youtube is on a decline. With all the media groups that attacking it for copyright infringement and everything else theres a lot of the same b.s on there when your searching for something specific...
BPM [MKWii: 2578 3585 8392] @ May 16th 2008 12:53PM
While I personally don't like it, the copyright holders do have a right to do so. When someone uploads a full episode of some show or a movie to YouTube, they are putting up something that costs money for free. The copyright holders have to protect their property, otherwise blah blah blah blah.
That was never really YouTube's intent, anyways. It was supposed to be a community kind of thing where people upload original content to.
Though, it is annoying how it sometimes strikes down YouTube Poops or Abridged Series. :/
B3astofthe3ast @ May 15th 2008 10:49PM
This is honestly some innovative stuff, if developers jump on board. Imagine the ease of uploading guitar Hero vids, multiplayer matches, and other things like boss battles.
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ May 15th 2008 10:51PM
This is awesome. Imagine recording and uploading feats of uber skill in multiplayer matches.
Slayer @ May 15th 2008 10:52PM
That's a pretty good idea. I like it.
Ravi Nair @ May 15th 2008 10:59PM
Schweet..i'm a 360 fan but this idea is cool. Although, not much of a YouTube user anymore (used to be till the copyright violation lawsuits started pouring in), this could be a good thing. No more badly recorded gameplay videos. Go Sony.
A person @ May 15th 2008 10:58PM
The force is strong with this one....
Xizer @ May 15th 2008 10:59PM
Yay, way to support a monopoly Sony.
Vince UK @ May 16th 2008 2:44AM
Well this move made sure there was one less option.

noskillbassist @ May 15th 2008 11:04PM
Yay! Now Youtube will soon be flooded by less-crappy gameplay videos. No more will it be external-guerilla-style recording! (Prolly still be shit quality, though)
r3m1x @ May 15th 2008 11:07PM
nice! If integrating game content with web 2.0 profiles kick off, I'd like to see WipEout HD talk to my last.fm profile. I love AudioSurf for doing this, last.fm & WipEout HD seems like a no brainer.
Mike @ May 15th 2008 11:08PM
That's effing brilliant.... and if you know me, or at least read my comments here and elsewhere, you know I am stingy w/ compliments.
User generated content is the future, and this is the future of user generated content.
John McPoop @ May 15th 2008 11:16PM
This is a great feature and as said on the user replies will be perfect if correctly implemented by game developers.
Fernando Rocker @ May 15th 2008 11:58PM
Hi...
=p
Jhongerkong @ May 15th 2008 11:27PM
Why is Olivia in a ps3 game?
Martez @ May 15th 2008 11:29PM
This would be awesome if it uploaded to an online video service with decent picture quality.
LeChuck @ May 16th 2008 12:11AM
"Our dream? YouTube uploads with LittleBigPlanet. It seems like a no-brainer."
Don't give them any ideas. That game's been delayed enough already.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ May 16th 2008 12:18AM
amen. get that game out already and patch this feature in later. i can only take so many delays before i almost completely loose interest (im looking at you Killzone 2...).
hoagie @ May 16th 2008 12:13AM
Wow, I think it's pretty cool that Animal Crossing came to PS3.
/jk
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ May 16th 2008 12:16AM
wow. that is a fantastic and completely unexpected move. Sony pulled their collective heads out of their asses for once and actually had a very good idea (instead of just modding someone elses). if devs actually use this feature, this could turn out to be great.
StevenRafael @ May 16th 2008 12:28AM
Sweet! I hope it gets implemented in Tekken 6.... And perhaps patched into GTA?
born2kill @ May 16th 2008 12:41AM
Bad idea. Now everybody and there momma is going to be uploading videos on a regular basis and were going to have to sift through the tons of crap videos to fine cool tributes and stuff.
The fact that its not super fast and easy to upload stuff to youtube is good, because its saturated as it is. Dammit
Mike918 @ May 16th 2008 12:52AM
Like if you didn't need to do that ALWAYS...
Maverick Saturn @ May 16th 2008 9:02AM
Dude, have you seen 90% of youtube videos, in fact, have you ever just randomly put in words and looked at vids?
Most of it is made up of crap, if anything this clenses the half hearted, shaky cam videos already deposited.
CB @ May 16th 2008 1:44AM
Does this mean no more screamo in vids?
drakkor @ May 16th 2008 2:48AM
they had better do this for ALL games
ESPECIALLY LBP
chez @ May 16th 2008 3:32AM
A very good idea. I like how some Wii games have screenshot sharing and message board posting, but vids too? Very smart move.
ScottyGEE @ May 16th 2008 4:26AM
Best feature ever.
So many games could use this...
Now I'm sure I'll be negged because thats how things work here, but I really would want this feature for a lot of my xbox games :(
Rask @ May 16th 2008 6:34AM
Cause nothing beats playing a game like watching other people play a game!!..
amirite?? am i..??
Seriously though, a fluff feature IMO. The only real upside to this that at least people won't be able to remix their footage with shitty pop music.
The one thing you c an be sure is that this isn't a feature that will be hitting the 360 given MS' whole we must beat teh Google thing.
chez @ May 16th 2008 7:43AM
I partially agree. What I like about Halo 3 and Mario Kart Wii is that the replays are dynamic and the file sizes are tiny since they're not actually rendered video. Youtube would be, and with crappy quality.
But on the other hand a youtube vid can record anything in any game and would be much easier for the developer.
Doc @ May 16th 2008 7:31AM
Good Idea, I just don't care much for youtube merely from a resolution standpoint. I wish they would keep this idea, but do it only through the game and cut out the whole youtube completely.I say this because I'd rather watch the clips from my couch and be able to use the controller to fast forward, rewind, not to mention see the clips in HD. Just use a halo like theater, it's much better when you have more controls when watching clips too(camera, zoom)
playwhutyalike @ May 16th 2008 7:54AM
I was all excited because I thought it read Dude Tube.
Oh well.
This is still a pretty descent feature methinks. Good move.
-Jad- @ May 16th 2008 8:55AM
That's a smart move, Sony. Hopefully new games will incorporated on the future... even the games that are out on the market right now.
Maverick Saturn @ May 16th 2008 8:59AM
Good move indeed :) I must say I like this very much, saves work and time having to record etc etc etc
Maverick Saturn @ May 16th 2008 9:00AM
Now all they need to do is add a recording facility to the XBM so you can record any game, anywhere, at any time.
PojoMofo @ May 16th 2008 10:11AM
absoulutely, maybe FRAPS could make something for PS3
PojoMofo @ May 16th 2008 10:10AM
typical Sony, On the bleeding edge of what people want. This is a GREAT idea
Ameen @ May 16th 2008 2:03PM
A great idea, if implemented properly would be one of the coolest features in a PS3 game.. I mean think about it? A "Skate" video, "LBP" video, etc.. It would be great.. Lets see what happens..
Lars @ May 16th 2008 2:33PM
Am I the only one who wants to punch that cat thing in the face?
Oh, but cool idea btw.
Now just change it to google video (who owns youtube anyways). Google video has that drop down box which allows you to directly download the video for PSP or whatever.
