Apparently, rumble does matter to a lot of Americans. According to SCEA, the feedback-giving DualShock 3 had $10.9 million in sales during the month of April, meaning that about 200,000 Americans were ready to put down $55 for some vibration from their PS3 controller.
As we learned from our initial impression of the DualShock 3: Yes, it's worth it. We do know that the Sixaxis is on its way out, but at this point only the MGS bundles come with the DS3. We're still waiting for the "official" changeover to occur with regular PS3 consoles.

I agree. There are few games I really care for with rumble.
I liked the way Shadow of the Colossus utilized it.
Twisted Metal Black was good for the turbo. That way you knew you were out when it didn't rumble and you no longer had to look at the screen to find out (theres enough things to pay attention to)....

It's a ripoff in a sense that it should have came out just like this in the first place...ya know, in the box. The numbers prove it, people wanted rumble but of course here on the Stiq we get the people saying "ahh I dont need it that much". Well, $10.9 million means people DID need it. =O

Yeah, but Fenix, that doesn't mean its a rip off. It was definitely a dumb move on Sony's part to not pay immersion so that the PS3 could have rumble, but a rip off would mean that the controller doesnt do what its supposed to or perform up to its potential. I think it does exactly what it claims. Therefore, its worth every penny.

I hope with the next Playstation Sony actually go ahead with a new controller. Sometimes people don't know what they want until it's right in front of them. I actually liked the look of the boomerang.
The dualshock is a bit, meh. It's been ten years, man, and they still haven't fixed the glaring flaws; mainly the crippled d-pad and awkward thumb placement.

I agree that the PS controller layout is outdated and in need of a makeover, but don't diss the D-pad. It's 110% better than the 360's. If you could drop a PS3 d-pad in a 360 controller you'd have the perfect gaming accessory.

The 360 d-pad is awful as well. In fact, this generation, like the last, has been horrible to the d-pad, and that's a shame seeing as fighting games are my favourite genre.
In my opinion - excluding the classic controller, which sorta counts - there hasn't been a good d-pad since the Sega Saturn. 1995!

The best D-pad was on the 8-bit NES controller. The Playstation's D-pad is pretty respectable.
I always hated the "swivel" style D-pads that Sega started using and have since been adapted on almost every console since the Playstation, and is used to particularly bad effect on the 360. The MadCatz controller I bought for $10 is, amazingly, a massive improvement from Microsoft's controller, and that says a lot. I don't know why game companies think it's vital to mount the cover plate so high off the PCB.
The Jaguar didn't use the swivel style d-pad, but of course that controller had its own trademarked formula of suckage.

MAAAAJOR RIPOFF, but atleast they fixed it so kudos for that. Now, imagine if they changed the analog and d-pad out and made it a little larger? Thats millions more right there Sony!
Oh and b4 all the "but I like the analogs right next to each other" come and defend it. Just shutty, everybody (thats tried it long enough) knows that overall its better to have it laid out just like the 360/Gamecubes.

Or not. Putting the left stick higher sucks. They can change the shape a little, but I don't want an unbalanced controller because of it.

Thats funny because the controller you have is actually the unbalanced one.

Actually I think it all comes down to preference. Personally I like DualShock's design more than the 360 Controller's design.

if the 360 pad has its left analogue placed higher, why is it ok to have the right analogue lower?
the 360 analogues are just too damn stiff and unsensitive to get an accurate shot.
ok the ps3s have problems too. the triggers and the analogues get less grippy.
until BOTH 360 analogues are placed high, i dont see a reason to bash the PS3s control

I consider rumble almost as big a gimmick as waggle, so $55 for this is pretty laughable. They should let us trade in those retarded sixaxis controllers for one of those, since they were the ones who screwed all of the ps3 owners over.

It's kinda funny that you're so sure I don't have a ps3, because last I knew you haven't been to my house, or know me (or maybe you do, never know anymore). But if you want you can send me a friend request on PSN, same name as this joystiq one, to find out.

Ok I'll get it later fenix, I'm at class now. My priorities are pretty bad, I know. Can't talk on it yet cause I don't have a headset at the moment, mostly cause I haven't played a whole lot of ps3 games online, but I'll probably have one by the time MGS comes out for MGO.

Fenix, man.. you need to start sending me messages on what games you want to play. I'll be playing Rock Band and I'll see you log in and then immediately log out.

It's my stupid connection. I'll get a "you have been signed out of the Playstation Network" message all the time. It's annoying and I've done everything. I've checked my connection settings and my signal strength is great so I dont know wtf is happening.
Once I get online in to matches like in COD4 it doesn't diconnect but if I'm just browsing through my menus it will sign me out so I stay offline and play games offline. Did you ever get COD4? Let me know so I can show you a thing or two. lol

I snagged COD4, didn't care much for the multiplayer but that could just be because I enjoy vehicle based shooters ala Warhawk/Battlefield. I can give it another go from time to time.

Yeah, because, you know, the competition has *really* been destroying Sony in terms of reliability.
Even the insanely high-profit and conservatively designed Wii has been having overheating and disc read errors -- the best of both worlds from the 360 and the PS2. Love it or hate it, the PS3 is built like a tank.
