This reminds me of the scenario with the original Xbox in a way. They thought they were doing everyone a favor by making the controller the perfect size for those with hands like a linebacker or a gorilla. Early on, if you wanted a decent controller, you needed to plop down the cash for the S-type controller.

Granted, the form factor of the Sony controller hasn't changed much in almost 14 years - still, it sucks to be an early adapter much of the time.

rumble is a standard... I believe all consoles should have some force feedback. It took them a long time but Sony finally figured it out.

How well did PS3 controllers sell before this? I mean, if they made $20 million in sales of SIXAXIS controllers in the month before this, it's not that big of a deal. What's the context?

I think losing that lawsuit had a lot more to do with it than Sony not realising people want force feedback.

Sony should have owned up to that fact. Just come out and say "Look, we are in a lawsuit that prevents us from having a DS3 at this point." that would be the end of it and most would understand. Instead they had to come up with the lamest one-liner this gen "Rumble is so last gen"

How the hell are they still getting away with bundling the Six Axis with new consoles?

I think they are still working through their existing bundles, as they have already announced that 6axis is on the way out

I bet you will start seeing DS3 bundled in with regular PS3's very soon, then hopefully the 6axis goes on cleareance!!

If you cant afford $55 then you shouldnt even be gaming.

$55, its only $4.60 a month!!!!!!
ONLY 15 pence a day!!!!!......???(scratches head)

Oh now i see. $55 for something is realised to be a ripoff.

$50 USD a year for nothing is a bargain!!

na2ru1... What?

Anyways yea. It's an expensive controller. When it costs $5 more for a game then something is wrong.
Just Sony being daft again.

@chez

This isn't just Sony. The 360 controllers are just expensive. And to have a complete Wii controller you have to buy the Wiimote and Nunchuck, which works out to being just as expensive. Of course, the Wii get's even worse when you factor in the VC games since you need a GC of Classic controller to some of those. Hell, you need one to really be able to play the VC games that can use the Wiimote... the Wiimote held sideways is an absolute joke.

How about spending $70 just so you have to supply your own batteries?

Frankly, I'd appreciate a wired version of the DS3, just as an option. I always turn off motion sensing, anyway, if the game allows me to do so.

My console came with rumble (360) and I used that $50 you spent on the Dual Shock to buy a years worth of excellent online play (LIVE). Will Sony offer to buy back Sixaxis controllers like HD DVD manufacturers did? Hmm didn't think so. Keep telling yourself the PS3 is awesome while you wait until 2009 for Killzone 2. BURNAGE!

That's funny, it looks exactly like the original Dual Shock that came out like a million years ago. I can't believe anyone ever liked this shitty controller in the first place, the buttons for a d-pad thing sucks, and the overall feel and construction just screams cheap. Oh well, this is America, home to the most morons per capita than anywhere on Earth....

Question is:Why didn't they do this in the first place? It's seems obvious that rumble is important...
