Rumor: Shenmue I and II Wii-makes coming
Normally we'd take a rumor like this gently by the hand, walk it outside of the house, and then run back in while locking the door behind us. However, there is some historic rational for this piece of gossip. In their Rykten (i.e. Rumor) section, Swedish magazine Game Reactor said Sega is looking to remake Shenmue I and II on the Nintendo Wii with – surprise! – extra Wiimote-related minigames. (You can view the scan here.)
Sega has been reviving quite a few franchises on the Wii lately, including NiGHTS, Sega Bass Fishing, Samba de Amigo and House of the Dead. Still, there isn't much traction for this rumor, so for now it's just a lead pipe dream.

So... do you waggle the Wii-remote to look for sailors? :o
Zertoss @ May 16th 2008 12:52PM
No you beat it.
And then you get a sailor minigame involving thumb-sucking.
Tiptup300 @ May 16th 2008 3:22PM
Ahhn, now I have to buy a Wii. :(
7718 @ May 16th 2008 12:52PM
I would totally play Shenmue again on the Wii! Maybe MS could get Sega to adapt a Shenmue port to launch alongside the upcoming secret "newton" waggle input device?
I just can't wait to see Fuku San again.
PojoMofo @ May 16th 2008 12:51PM
How the F%&$ does the Wii sell 700k+ when I cant even f$ing find one in the store!!!
I would pick this up in a heartbeat, if I had a Wii
Roto13 @ May 16th 2008 1:20PM
I saw six of them at my local Walmart yesterday. :P It really depends on where you live.
MariosInferno @ May 16th 2008 1:43PM

Answer your own question, I believe you did. Mmm.
Sir Fidlious Wong (Justin T. McElroy Memorial Burn of the Day Award) @ May 16th 2008 2:44PM
You can pick up an Xbox, Shenmue 2, Dreamcast, and Shenmue all for the same price as this would be and an extra controller for Wii.
Microswirl @ May 16th 2008 4:11PM
@Sir Fidlious Wong
So you're saying a Wii is just an Xbox and a Dreamcast duct-taped together? Problem is you can't also play Z:TP, SMG, MP3, SSBB, MKW, Z&W, or myriad of other new and exciting acronyms on either of those dead systems.
umm....hello??? @ May 16th 2008 11:08PM
y'know, it's really NOT that hard to get one. check the BestBuy/CircuitCity/Target weekly ads online after midnight on Saturdays and get your butt in line early before store opening. Guaranteed success if you get there 6am or earlier. I got mine on launch day, and since then I've managed to get my hands on 5 other ones that I've sold for a profit on CraigsList in the Chicago area.
other than that, I've also gotten one just on pure chance shopping at BestBuy. you can also call BestBuy/CircuitCity constantly during the day to see if they've gotten any UPS shipments and run over there quickly before they sell out....

Oh boy! Ported last-gen software and Wiimote related mini games!
The Wii is definitely lacking in ported last-gen softaware and Wiimote related mini games.
Vegnagun bwf @ May 16th 2008 12:57PM
It's lacking in Shenmue.
tmacairjordan87 @ May 16th 2008 12:58PM
The NDF is going to crucify you for it, even though it leans more towards truth than not. Still, good luck
Anni @ May 16th 2008 1:20PM
Jordan, now you're just latching onto other people for trolls. Come on, I know you've got some new tricks of your own up your sleeve!
tmacairjordan87 @ May 16th 2008 1:30PM
Another time my friend..another time
DangerMouse @ May 16th 2008 1:48PM
The dreamcast is 1.5 generations ago.
samfish @ May 16th 2008 2:27PM
We (the NDF) only want this if it means we (the NDF) get Shenmue 3, too.
...actually, we (the NDF) will take this just as it is, but getting Shenmue 3 sure would be nice, especially since we (the NDF) are apparently getting the shaft on BG&E2.
Co @ May 16th 2008 4:07PM
We don't typically acknowledge paulpiercebillwalton87 around these parts.

Jody Anthony (cookingrebels.com) @ May 16th 2008 1:33PM
maybe they'll have wii wheel support for the forklifts.
Zootittles @ May 16th 2008 1:02PM
OKAY MR. SUZUKI, NOW HOW ABOUT GIVING US SHENMUE 3 FOR FUCKS SAKE
tmacairjordan87 @ May 16th 2008 1:05PM
He's busy collecting the $200 million + it would take to make the game :P
Yourself @ May 16th 2008 1:05PM
While Capcom may be the best at iterating franchises, Sega certainly takes the cake when it comes to releasing identical games. Just look at the Virtual Console if you don't believe me.
But while we're bringing back DC franchises, how about some Skies of Arcadia, huh?
FOXHOUND @ May 16th 2008 1:12PM
^ PLUS MUTHA F00kIN ONE FOR THIS GUY RIGHT HERE
...*ahem* I mean, +1 for the gentleman who suggested SKIES OF ARCADIA, new game or 2nd remake. That's a damn fine idea, there.
GearSecond! (a.k.a AwesomeStuff) @ May 16th 2008 4:21PM
where da FUCK is MY SKIES SEQUEL!?!?!?
Nigeria @ May 16th 2008 1:05PM
Personally, I'd prefer a Virtua Cop collection, preferably remade, but I'll take ports. Or a new Daytona USA game. Or a new Fighters Megamix. Maybe even a new Winter Heat, that'd be cool.
There are plenty of better games more deserving of the Wii treatment. That's not to say Shenmue is no good, I'd just prefer other those other games, you know.
tifosiotaku @ May 16th 2008 2:34PM
A new Daytona USA game? Are we on the same wavelength here? ^_^
SWAT Kats are back! @ May 16th 2008 4:26PM
MOAR FIGHTERS MEGAMIX
SEGA HAS HIJACKED MY CRUISE CONTROL, PLZ HALP

OMG no kick pedal? Whatever
*flees
Kweli @ May 16th 2008 1:18PM
I played Shenmue until the part where i had to do multiple days of actual work (forklifting)
That was the end of my "game"... since i had just left work to play a video game, i didnt feel like doing more work
Roto13 @ May 16th 2008 1:23PM
I played the first Shenmue and it was too clunky. >_>
arrrgh @ May 16th 2008 1:25PM
FUCKING YES.
Shenmue 1 and 2 STILL get time on my dusty DC!!!!
THEY NEED TO DO THIS!!! for the good of the gaming world!!!
probably some of the best games released
Joshua @ May 16th 2008 1:32PM
:)
KeenCommander @ May 16th 2008 1:32PM
Ignoring the "lucky hit" and "sailor" jokes, this would seem to make sense. After all, the first Shenmue was very expensive to make for the time and neither game did particularly well, so it would make sense for SEGA to want to double dip into the game's fanbase with a quick and cheap port - and being on the Wii gives them an excuse not to upgrade the graphics nearly as significantly as would be required in a 360 or PS3 port.
Garcian_Smith @ May 16th 2008 1:34PM
I would buy this in a heartbeat. Hopefully - if this does indeed ring true - this will pave the way for Shenmue III (anyone who played Shenmue II on the DC/Xbox will know what I mean regarding its rather open ended epilogue).
chez @ May 16th 2008 1:39PM
Nice one. I only played a bit on Shenmue 1 before my DC packed in. I'd buy this in a heartbeat, or second depending on my resting heart rate and the availability of the game.
Kevin Adder Snake @ May 16th 2008 1:47PM
I just hope that this will not be a direct port from the Dreamcast. I would like this to put some love and attention to this, not for Shenmue fans but for new people. I hate direct ports, it seems kinda lazy in my opinion.
shawn @ May 16th 2008 3:53PM
id rather just pick up shenmue for dreamcast where it belongs, why titles are getting rehashed i have no idea....
Judd @ May 16th 2008 3:33PM
People talk about how innovative Grand Theft Auto 3 was for its open-ended environment, but Shenmue really was mind blowing for its time. Just like GTA you could go around doing whatever you wanted to, but unlike GTA, the story was compelling and you had a reason to want to advance in the campaign.
Anyway, I always thought that if I got rich, not $1 million, but like $100 million, I would give around $5 million to Suzuki to start working on Shenmue 3.
Then maybe I'll help out those starving children in Africa.
Kye @ May 16th 2008 3:50PM
I would love this game on the Wii (or any other system actually).
My DC copy would always freeze at a certain point so I never finished it. I was getting into the game as well.
As long as were bringing back old DC games I would love to see Chu Chu (Choo Choo?) Rocket and Powerstone 2 remakes.
SWAT Kats are back! @ May 16th 2008 4:27PM
They should make ChuChu Rocket for WiiWare
They totally could, anyway
Drago Dracini @ May 16th 2008 3:59PM
If this happens... I will personally sell myself to nintendo as a male pleasure slave. @.@ so long as the controls aren't shit.
Cesaria (MKW:2621-2994-1376) @ May 16th 2008 4:02PM
With this news, a potential Kid Icarus game, and the possible Beyond Good and Evil sequel, this proves developers may actually listen to us!
Superstar90 @ May 16th 2008 5:05PM
Except Jet Set Radio Wii is still missing :(
why not the LS2LS7? @ May 16th 2008 5:37PM
Fantastic. GTA IV just didn't have enough boring day-to-day stuff in it. Forget having to go out on dates (and man dates) all the time, now you can do your laundry and make your bed too.
Ethan @ May 16th 2008 5:37PM
That game needs a nip and tuck badly, if they do that, it might be a success. Otherwise I just think it's incompatible with today's market.
Jacksons @ May 16th 2008 5:50PM
Exactly.
Purple Haze @ May 16th 2008 8:55PM
I hope they do this, the Shenmue games are some of my favorite of all time, but if they do, they better make Shenmue 3 and finish the fucking story.
