The Conduit gameplay trailer released
The Conduit currently doesn't have a publisher. Compared to what does get published on the Wii, that's a shame someone hasn't jumped on this yet. Given the Wii landscape is a bit devoid of quality FPS, we're curious to see how the game progresses. We just don't want to get too caught up in hype, especially after Wii shooter Red Steel ended up drowning in it.

Billybob @ May 18th 2008 2:07PM

screw high voltage!
Lijik @ May 19th 2008 12:21AM
Woah now, High Voltage did make The Haunted Mansion which is one of the best licensed games around. Especially since it had very little to do with the movie it was based on.
Billybob @ May 19th 2008 3:05AM
look at their wikipedia entry haunted mansion in 2003 got a 69% average.. yeah sounds like a good game lolz

skittens @ May 19th 2008 3:07AM
Not to mention the "Deathmatch Confirmed" at the end of the clip.
Now I am not one to get excited over the promise of multiplayer on the Wii, but if done right, this could be a huge title.
SoulBlade @ May 17th 2008 12:54PM
It looks good... for the Wii - but not next gen. It'll really depend on the weapons - those contribute a lot more to an FPS in my book. So far, the weapons look meh. FPS on the Wii controls really well though, so if it's fun, then who cares.
I'm more interested in Mad World regarding the Wii - looks kind of slick
2ez @ May 17th 2008 5:00PM
Not "next-gen?" What the fuck does that even mean? Lets stop using marketing buzz words to describe games, please.
Zeus.:God @ May 17th 2008 6:30PM
Next-gen has NOTHING to do with graphics- it has to do with the generations of consoles. It IS next-gen. It's like saying everything that isn't the best isn't next-gen.
The PS3's motion controls suck. Does that make it not next-gen?
The Xbox 360 has nothing new other than improved graphics and LIVE support- does that make it not next-gen?
The most "next-gen" console out right now is the Wii, only it's plagued by mostly lack-luster games.
deepthought @ May 17th 2008 8:26PM
agreed. not next gen. as in, looks like a game that could have been made last generation.
see? not just a marketing buzzword.
now whether you care about that, don't care about that, flip out and slice of heads and play killer guitar riffs if someone points that out, well, as usual, it's up to you.
Fernando Rocker @ May 17th 2008 12:55PM
mmmm... Casamassina told that it was the pre-alpha demo.
It still needs a lot of work... the finished product will look a lot better.
Metroid Prime 3 looks a lot better.
xFenixKnightx @ May 17th 2008 1:43PM
I beg to differ buddy, IMO it does look better than MP already. Anyway...
Now THATS what I'm fricken talking about Wii! I've been waiting to see the Wii pushed and hey it looks great. It would probably be just another generic shooter if it were on 360 or PS3 but I'm not too sure since its on Wii and it should be a good experience. *Might be my 3rd Wii title :) Why has nobody picked this up for publishing yet?
Co @ May 17th 2008 3:30PM
I think, Fenix, it hasn't grabbed a publisher yet due to it being so early on in the develoment process. There is NO WAY this game is not going to grab a publisher. It's almost comical the attention this has garnered about not have a pub. yet.
Didn't Matt post a blog about them having grabbed a publisher already too??
Fernando Rocker @ May 17th 2008 3:33PM
Well... I definitely looks better than most third party games, specially considering that High Voltage Software doesn't have the same budget as for example EA or Ubisoft.
It's a small and independet studio, and hope other studios follow this trend and start creating more games like this. Just like Platinum games. Mad World looks very good too.
John McPoop @ May 17th 2008 4:01PM
I have to agree that this already looks better than Metroid Prime on Wii ... This is seriously the type of games the Wii needs ... Something other than ports, mini games and mario and friends ... I will pick this up day 1 for sure ... Looks really fun
Fernando Rocker @ May 17th 2008 4:08PM
Hey John, we need to talk...

OK I will send you a message from my personal e-mail account ... I don't do IM that much anymore
John McPoop @ May 17th 2008 4:56PM
Ok Fernando I sent you an email to your listed address
xFenixKnightx @ May 17th 2008 8:51PM
Yup, verified from GT's. This looks better than MP3. Lighting, textures, physics, all around.
t_m @ May 18th 2008 8:37AM
Hmm... fernando complaining about wii graphics and fenix defending them. something feels very very wrong here.
xFenixKnightx @ May 18th 2008 12:24PM
Q the Twilight Zone music...
Benny @ May 17th 2008 1:03PM
This looks top-notch for a Wii game. Just goes to show what a little effort from devs can do... though Nintendo could have told you that!
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ May 17th 2008 1:08PM
Oh wow. That looks fucking awesome!!
Maverick Saturn @ May 17th 2008 1:12PM
My first impressions when I straight clicked on the video were "WTF? Those look like PS2 Graphics, they can't be serious!!"
But I looked up and saw it was on Wii, and my mindset changed.
Looks impressive :) I like the arm gun, anywho, I'll be sure to pick this up ^^ Haven't played an FPS on Wii since Metroid :)
Jeff @ May 17th 2008 1:21PM
Seriously. That's impressive for the Wii.
And sad for anything else.
Which is sad in and of itself, no?
Fatass of Haikuness @ May 17th 2008 1:32PM
I'm not trying to present the Wii as some powerhouse, but fuck if Joystiqers don't overestimate the PS2. This ain't 360 or PS3 calibur but I can't see the PS2 pulling something like this off.
While the Wii is a weaker system it's nice to see some devs putting some effort forth for those of us who appreciate visuals in a game as a part of the experience.
xFenixKnightx @ May 17th 2008 1:47PM
PS2 graphics? o_O What you been smoking Maverick? Nothing on PS2 has ever looked that good. C'mon now, we all know the Wii is more powerfull than last gen consoles but nobody has really tapped it, I mean...for what right? Well at least thats what most devs are thinking IMO. Which is a shame.
Maverick Saturn @ May 17th 2008 2:40PM
Meh, its all that carbon dioxide :P
It just reminded me of Timesplitters or something.
God I miss that game :(
jcd @ May 17th 2008 3:31PM
sure, some scenes DO look way better than the stuff on the ps2, but to be honest, most don't.
It's hard to be impressed after all of the great FPSs we've been having lately. That said, I AM somewhat interested.
wootman @ May 17th 2008 1:15PM
looks awesome, am i the only one who was reminded
slightly of half life (setting - underground secret scientific base, weapons - arm cannon that tracks, spas 12, enemies - alien bug thingies and government soldiers, etc) which is a great thing for any shooter do, and after all it is early.
sicsided @ May 17th 2008 1:23PM
Yeah, it does look very much like Half Life, but Half Life its self is just another spin on the sci fi wagon. I love Half Life, but we've all seen the insect/organism thing before too. Hopefully this game can pull a narrative like HL to go along with it.
Haggard @ May 17th 2008 8:12PM
I was reminded a bit of Prey with regards to the organic, living weapons.
locknroll @ May 17th 2008 1:16PM
Hopefully it controls well. That alien gun looks insane.
D_Average @ May 17th 2008 1:16PM
This game is dripping with blandness, it has no identity of its own.
Maverick Saturn @ May 17th 2008 1:21PM
Lol, well you'll have to play it to confirm that.
I doubt a 1 min vid can give you a 100% insight into the game.
Benny @ May 17th 2008 1:27PM
Maverick, this is the internet; one minute with any subject instantly makes you an expert.
D_Average @ May 17th 2008 2:27PM
It certainly doesn't make me an expert, but I can clearly see that the title, gameplay, and character style have all been done a million times before.
Contrast that with the trailers from Madworld, No More Heroes, and World of Goo, just to name a few, and its not hard to discern which games are innovative and which games are not.
That sad, its not all doom and gloomm for High Voltage. I can't wait for Animals de la Muerta. That game, will certainly be a first in terms of the setting and story.
DangerMouse @ May 17th 2008 3:10PM
Considering how over saturated the FPS market already is, it's hard not to create a shooter that isn't bland.
John McPoop @ May 17th 2008 4:08PM
@D_Average
Don't you know human have existed far to long for any of us to have an original thought ... Everything has already been done in terms of storytelling ... You can have a bit of a different twist on a classic narrative but it will never be new ...
D_Average @ May 17th 2008 9:36PM
Exactly.
Nevertheless, we can all see a clear difference between something as similar as Call of Duty 4 to say, Call of Duty 3. We're all working on the same pallet here, the thing is, some people paint with acrylics, some people paint with poop.
Slayer @ May 17th 2008 1:29PM
It looks kind of generic. Then again, I only have this trailer to go on.
Shignami @ May 17th 2008 1:31PM
Wow, the enemy design is terrible.
everything else looks cool though.
HB96st @ May 17th 2008 1:34PM
I like it... I would cop it for the wii..
SWAT Kats are back! @ May 17th 2008 1:35PM
Ultra-generic FPS notwithstanding, its heartening to see something with realistic graphics that looks much better than Red Steel, which set the bar for 3rd-party realism on Wii previous to this
JakubK666 (Ninja Defence Force) @ May 17th 2008 1:35PM
Is that a lizard being used for a silencer a la Postal!?
DesertPyrate @ May 17th 2008 1:41PM
As a Wii owner I'd like to see a whole lot more of this than what we've been subjected to in third party titles. Game doesnt look as good as a 360 or PS3 game but it looks good though! I want to see more shooters that are worth while, if Nintendo can snag more titles like this they would lock a whole new fanbase.
One of the gripes I've had with Wii FPS is that you need to choose which hand to maneuver your character with and which hand to aim your weapon with. I'm left handed and like to aim with my strong hand but its hard when everything is separate, this took a little getting use to. If they push out games like this with solid controls and upgrade the online play(add voice chat and nix the game codes and just offer a profile or something else) and you've got a winner
tmacairjordan87 @ May 17th 2008 1:44PM
I echo the blandness and generic statements. Heh looks like wii owners will finally know what a generic FPS feels like, something we ps3/360 owners know all too well by now.
Co @ May 17th 2008 3:33PM
Well one thing is for sure, it'll definitely control better than those bland generic FPSs on PS360.
John McPoop @ May 17th 2008 4:23PM
Shut the hell Up, Co...
There are very few Wii titles that actually control better with the Wii mote than the gamecube or classic controller ... Everyone (myself included) thought Okami would control perfect for the Wii but it was clunky and poorly implemented ... The game looks very fun especially for a Wii game ... Even if the graphics are nothing special games like this need to be more of the norm and you might see a change of attitude towards the Wii ... I would take it more serious if it had games that appealed to me other than Ports and Mario & Company
fred @ May 17th 2008 5:09PM
You're a retard poop. I don't think I need to elaborate.
John McPoop @ May 17th 2008 5:35PM
@Fred
I know you are but what am I?
See I can also act like a 12 year old!
Heaven forbid someone have a differing opinion
