That actually looks pretty dam good, im suprised. If the Wii can get more exclusive titles like this on a regular basis, then it might be worth buying for people who arent just diehard fanboys or casual old people.

If you want my 250$ you need to give me some incentivies nintendo. Get some more horror/sci titles like this and maybe we'll talk

That sounds good. It doesnt get me to spend 250$ but its a start. If they really want to win the console war, they should buy certain exclusive titles, like a Psychonauts Sequel, and maybe just maybe the non-nintendo fans will have enough reason to grab it.

And since theyre now best buddies with Sega, they should just get a new exclusive Jet Set Radio, Ecco the Dolphin, a new Condenmed w/ motion controls.....etc. And maybe remake/remix the retro games in HD, in the same way street fighter is being redone. There is no way a hardcore gamer will not buy a Wii for unique experiences like this. The console wars is there for nintendo to win, if they get creative and if they really want to win it, and arent just content to live of the first party stuff. Eventually Sony is going to surpass that first party nintendo stuff w/ a massive 3rd party library, like theyve been doing for over a decade. So its up to nintendo whether they really want to detrone the kings of gaming...

@Co

You don't win a war after only a year or two ... Nintendo has won the console sales battle but the vast majority of hardcore/mature gamers will tell you the Wii is not the best gaming machine ... It appears with games like these companies see there is a thirst for exclusive mature content on the Wii ...

It is a marathon and not a sprint ... In due time we will see which consoles stand the test of time ... All of the console manufacturers are doing very well in different areas and are all successful ... They also all have major things to overcome and sterotypes to deal with going forward ...

Nintendo has certainly done very well for its self and made up for the pathetic debacle that was the gamecube ... Lets hope Sony and Nintendo get an online component on par or exceeding what Microsoft has done with Live ... If that never happens this generation it will really show how stubborn & arrogant Sony and Nintendo are ... It looks like Sony is making an effort and Nintendo improved their online component with MK ... There is still no network though on the Wii per se ...

No chatting
No HDD
No profiles
No online infrastructure

God help us all if thats what console gaming becomes ... Talk about going backwards

Wow. Just wow. How to even begin to respond to this. "Hard core". "Mature". These subjective words you throw out there sound just dandy, right? I'm not even sure who that encapsulates. But if you are referring to pretty much anyone that owns a 360 exclusively, which so often those words are associated with, then you are referring to the smallest minority of people in this industry.

There is a cap with these people, a defaulted limitation that seems to level off around 25 million consoles sold (see: XBox 1). Sure 360 might hit closer to 30, but as I've stated before, Nintendo has this generation wrapped up in the sense that they've found that sweet spot in the middle.

They cover the "core" gamer, if you will. you know, the people blogging it up on these kind of sites. They cover the absolute clueless non gamer looking for simplistic fun. They cover the nostalgic gamer that once was. All bases are covered, which is why in a years less time, they have surpassed 360 numbers worldwide.

The only hardcore gamer nintendo is covering is the hardcore nintendo fans. They are not covering the millions of people like myself who dont give a rats ass about Mario Kart and Brawl. The people who want the God of Wars, Resident 5, etc. They are not getting our 250$ and the licensing fees from the thousands of 3rd party games that Sony has on the playstation platform and Microsoft is starting to have.

If Nintendo believes like you that theyve already won, they'll be in for a rude awakening when they realize the software sales are relatively weak and the hype is no longer enough to drive console sales. The PS2 moved 127 million units because of massive 3rd party support. Can Nintendo sell 127 million based on Mario kart and Brawl???

Well...yeah. That's because "people like yourself" (talking in general here) are the ones who have been telling Nintendo to go jump in a lake since the N64 days. Why should Nintendo personally cover you?
They're rewarding their fans this time around, the way I see if. The GC days was Nintendo more or less experimenting with their franchises (Sunshine, Wind Waker, Double Dash, Metroid, for example). The Wii days are about Nintendo going straight to the fan service (Galaxy, Brawl, Twilight Princess and, to a lesser extent, Mario Kart).

Seriously...so-called "hardcore" gamers can't tell Nintendo to piss off for YEARS and when they finally do, throw a shit-fit over it. It's like expecting your battered wife to keep coming back after you almost killed her the last time you beat her.

If you want more games like that, ask 3rd parties to make them. Maybe after TWO years of undisputed dominance, they'll stop 'testing' Wii owners like Crapcom is, and just start making good games that aren't ports or low budget half-assed efforts.

Samfish,

I didnt say that Nintendo owes anybody anything. I said that if they want to win the console wars then they'd better embrace the 3rd parties, because the first party fan service alone is not going to detrone Sony. I could care less if Nintendo goes extinct, but i'm just saying IF they want to do the improbable and detrone the monolith that is Sony Playstation, there are ways for them to better their odds. And 1 of these ways is to make their platform more appealing to gamers like myself who dont care about the first party fan service. They can (and i'm sure they will) continue with the fan service, but if they intend to win the wars, they are going to have to broaden their horizons; and buy some exclusive 3rd party must haves; (like psychonauts 2, Shenmue 3, Bully 2, etc.) they certainly have enough money to do it, the question is do they want to be on top again?? Its up to them. I could care less what happens.

That's already happened though, in all probability. If Sony (or MS) couldn't knock off Nintendo with the first 5 days GTA4 (IE- the strongest sales week it'll ever see), odds are nothing will.

Never say never, of course, but there is no game coming out that is now going to give the PS3 the kind of momentum it needs to dethrone the Wii. Certainly not for more than one month, at least.
A price drop won't do it, either because, again, there's no games coming out to give it that kind of sustained momentum.
In all probability, FFXIII is Sony's last big gun to fire and, to a lesser extent, MGS4.

Sony has a few big guns left (Resident 5, God of War 3, etc.) but regardless they dont live off the big, record selling games. Theyre number 1 because theyve had the broadest, deepest library. So even when theres no GTA or MGS released that month, theres always something decent to pick up instead. They always have a steady stream of releases that appeal to all sorts of gamers; and thats their bread and butter. Meanwhile, with Nintendo theres not much happening in between their big franchises and they arent appealing to most hardcore gamers, that buy 30+ games a year. They are counting on the casuals and the nintendo fans to put them over the top, and I have to say I dont see that happening. Over time, as Sony drops the PS3 price, releases more innovative titles like Little Big Planet, and as blu-ray players become more desirable;; the install base is going to eventually catch up to Nintendos. And while Wii owners are waiting for the next big mario title to drop, the playstation owners are going to have smaller but still very solid releases coming out all the time, and dwarfing Nintendo in 3rd party licensing profits. Thats their game.

I dunno...seemed sorta...slow? Reminds me of the MGS4 online beta vids...Character is like going at a snail's pace. Um, doesn't look that impressive graphically, but hopefully they can throw on some fancy filters and end up looking polished. As long is this is an alpha/beta/far from release, this should end up good. Perhaps I've been spoiled by good FPS on PC compared to most shitty console FPS. Regardless, happy to see FPS on the Wii. What I really want to know is online or not.

Well, it seems to me that they pretty much just copypasta'd the Space Pirate design for a lot of the enemies.

Graphically it doesn't seem quite as impressive as the previous tech demo, but in its defense, we're looking at the game in a tiny window with pretty shitty video quality (lol IGN).

Also, do want that first weapon they showed.

IMHO the graphics seem alright. I don't really think they're stellar, but I don't have much to compare it to so far on the Wii (my latest game being Mario Kart with the cartoony look).

There's 2 things that will make or break a game like this for me:
1) Enemy AI - I don't really want to stand there shooting guys who don't cover or team up or act with any intelligence.
2) Online capability - This is what this 'gen' is all about for me - generating fantastic replayability through online multiplayer.

I look forward to seeing how this game will progress.

Hmmm... I'm torn.

I know the Wii can do better graphics, and I've been often disappointed at the effort devs put in. I also know that graphics aren't important for lots of genres, and are only part of the puzzle for others.

But after reading all the comments about this at work, I was really excited. Now I can finally view the video I'm rather disappointed. Its not bad... but it doesn't look amazing.

Maybe part of the problem is that its a load of environments we've seen a dozen times before. It very strongly reminded me of Deus Ex2 and Snowblind on the Xbox, in terms of style, setting and graphics.

Its a nice step up for 3rd party wii games... but that is more due to their lack of quality than it's amazing qualities. At the moment I'd give the edge to MP3, if only cos it's settings and art style are much more interesting.

(though it sounds like it might be tongue-in-cheek, which might push it from generic to interesting. Right now, I'd rather have Red Steel 2, but done right. The setting is more interesting. )

PS/ They should make some NOLF like games for the Wii. Games with originality, humor and style mean that the graphics don't matter. Set it in generic offices and they become important.
(or a XIII style cell-shaded shooter)

I find it interesting that people view 'generic' as a criticism. Perhaps they don't fully understand the word they are using: all it really means is a media product highly influenced by its genre. Reading comments on various websites I've heard comparisons to:

Half Life
Halo
Perfect Dark
Time Splitters
Metroid Prime 3

That's some good comparisons if you ask me. If it takes influences from a variety of shooters it should end up either a game all of its own or simply a very polished shooter. Either way, great.

The time it takes to reload seems disturbingly lengthy, and like he's dancing while he does it. That's one of the biggest things I hated about Black. That, and the guy doesn't ever jump. Looks more like Half-Life than Perfect Dark, Halo or Starship Troopers -- particularly because of the squishy unconventional alien weapons.

You better do good graphics or else you'll never graphic in this town again.

But I hope this gets published so this can shut up all the Wii detractors: "hey guys, shut up a minute. What about The Conduit, huh. Huh! Yeah, thought so. That's right. The Conduit proves the Wii can do the generic FPS genre just as blandly as the 360".

Being one of the few people to finish Red Steel, it's actually pretty good from the second half on. I blame most of that on how LONG it took me to get used to the controls. About four hours. Metroid Prime 3 only took me a few minutes to get used to.

Goldeneye on the N64 was an amazing game. It had the right mix of decent single player and fun multi. As for the gfx? Really not so great by todays standards, but I personally found the Goldeneye single player more fun than Doom 3 single player. People with a Wii likely know it's not that powerful, and most got it for the not-so-graphical fun you can have with it. If a fps with decent solo/multi gameplay comes out then gratz to the dev team, they've given us a bonus most wouldnt expect. Perfect dark single was 'ok' but at times the improved gfx over Goldeneye caused framerate issues. Time to wait patiently with high hopes but no expectations.
