Gingerbread stirs up new shooter with South American mythos
A new Polish outfit -- so new in fact that it doesn't seem to even have a website yet -- has announced development of a new first/third person shooter for the Xbox 360 and PC called The Protector, which promises the unorthodox mix of terrorism and Aztec lore. Developed by upstart Gingerbread Studios, the game's playable characters similarly break from convention, lacing players up in the boots of former lovers Jennifer Guile and Jonathan Kane, a US archaeologist and British mercenary.
Even so, their relationship won't just be used to thicken the sexual tension ala Melrose Place. Instead, the devs note that each will work to keep an ancient Aztec weapon out of the hands of terrorists using different skills, with archaeologist Guile sneaking around stealthily while Kane sprays bad guys with bullets in "searing, tactical shooting." The game, which has not yet been given a release date, won't just have the pair going up against terrorists, but also "mythical Aztec creatures" as well, giving us all the reason we need to keep an eye on The Protector in the months to come.

The Aztecs were from North America, capital in present day Mexico.

Good thing I checked the comments, someone else already pointed it out. Perhaps they meant "Latin American."

or Central America.

Funny enough, all I could think about was the spoof spy movie at the end Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. "The X-1 needs to cool down" "I'm a little overheated myself" "Come over here P.W."
Yeah, don't ask why.

I'm surprised that nobody has attempted a game, that I know of at least, using Aztec mythos before. Should be interesting.
Come to think of it, a game set in ancient Egypt could be insane. That entire culture was awesome, magic in everyday life, gods and goddesses for everything, war, pyramids. Yeah, that could be awesome as well.

I believe the new Tomb Raider goes into Aztec mythos, or perhaps that's with the Mayan stuff?

A shooter? With terrorists!?
Seriously though, this had better bring something to the table. We have enough shooters as it is.
Yuccadude @ May 18th 2008 9:32PM
I agree with you, but I also agree with Tryptophan. I wanna shoot a jaguar terrorist in the face.

Yuccadude @ May 19th 2008 2:37AM
Yeah, it's in Vegas 2 and it's a pretty recognizable weapon with the trapezoidal grip.

FFS! Another shooter? Have developers lost all interest in other genres or something? Or maybe this is just a shooter genre, or maybe they are trying to test us or something.
My god, I'm drowning in shooters, I want to play something different!!!
