Selling out has become a common occurrence for Funcom's upcoming MMO Age of Conan, a theme that continues this morning with news that the game's collector's edition print run of 111,000 units is "completely sold out in all markets." The announcement stings for those of us who kept putting off pre-ordering the limited edition box until tomorrow, and while Funcom notes that some boxes may still be found on retail shelves, stores will not be able to order more.
Even so, Funcom adds that it is putting some 700.000 copies of Age of Conan on trucks bound for retail shelves on day one, ensuring that anyone who fancies suiting up in virtual loincloths will be able to do so when the MMO officially begins tomorrow.

@Arnie.
The lead developer has said that the only reason that there isn't a launch PS3 version was timing of console launch. He has not discounted that a PS3 version may come (though he has said that a Wii version is out of the question)...

Here is to hoping.

Funcom isn't even anticipating the Xbox 360 version will be completed until next Spring, and yet you're hoping that a completely unannounced and possibly not even in production PS3 version comes out by Christmas?
I don't see why it *couldn't* come to the PS3, but let's try and maintain some rationality here.

I help out, hoping for the 360 version to have a limited edition as well. Unfortunately, I just don't know.

Wow, I really hadn't realised how popular this game was. Isn't the number of people who buy collector's edition's really low? Something like 1 in 20? Is there something awesome in this box? A bar of gold?
Still looking forward to the 360 version. Hope it looks half as good as the PC version does

I second that. I have a good PC, with a DX10 card, but I'd still rather play this on a console. Hope its not drastically different in the visual department.

I think they get a head start in the game and/or extra stuff in-game or something like that. I think that's a more powerful motive for potential players than any real-world 'loot', since social status in-game means a lot to potential players... I'm sort of tempted to preorder the warhammer online ce for that reason, as nerdy as that sounds :P

They can't exactly give out too much stuff in an MMO can they? Its like charging for weapons in a FPS. I mean maybe an awesome starting weapon but not exactly Epic Sets. Maybe I'll google it if I care enough later.
Also What The Fuck is up with that stupid intel advert? It keeps popping up when I try to vote someone up/down or even click reply. I have to close the page and reopen it again to get the damn thing to go away. The [X] doesn't work. Seriously Joystiq, don't you guys even test these adds before you let them go up? Guess I'm gonna have to adblock you again

I'm currently in the Early Access period for this game, and this is easily the most fun I've had gaming in a while. The combat is surprisingly deep for an MMO, the PvP is quick and intense, the voice acting wasn't too bad...
The biggest thing for me is how epic the whole world feels. My guild is really excited to build our city. We've already developed rivalries with some of the other guilds on our server (we're on a PvP server, open warfare!), mostly ganking guilds trying to grief other players.
I'm definitely going to be playing this for a while. :)

After getting flagshipped, I'm hesitant about jumping on the bandwagon.....
Are there glaring bugs/annoyances that you optimistically think "will be fixed when it's released"?

Speaking as someone in the Early Access right now, the game is running great.

I played the Fileplanet open beta and had got some second thoughts on this game that I previously preordered. The client they used for that was absolutely horrible. It laggy, glitchy, and annoyingly frustrating. I reluctantly paid to try the early access deal (Only $5 so no big deal for me). On the 17th, early access "launch" day, the servers were delayed 3 hours and while I really wasn't surprised I was slightly annoyed. I ended up going to see Iron Man (great movie).
Fast forward to launch... the client is night and day compared to the open beta version. Game runs silky smooth and lag free using with all settings max except for MSAA (res 1920x1200). There are bugs of course but I didn't expect the game to run as good as it did. I was able to play all day and I didn't crash or get booted a single time.
Only complaints I have right now are with the chat window and the UI. I'm sure these will get addressed soon though. Otherwise, AoC is a great looking and playing game for now. I'm hoping Funcom makes it better.

It's pretty amazing to me that this game is having such a good launch... Most of the preview articles I read in games mags and online were full of 'buts' and 'ifs', so the hype is player-generated. To be honest it wouldn't hurt to have another MMO draw some players to it though, I'm tired of WoW leading over all others by such a wide margin.

If my computer could run it, I would be getting this as I am quite interested in it. But since I can not, I'll be waiting till this summer when I build a new one to get it. Which isn't too far behind release.

it was the smoothest MMO launch ive ever been part of. The game is amazing. Granted, you need a nice PC to run it, but its worth it. I decided to buy a new pc instead of a PS3, and do not regret my decision one bit.

I have to chime in on this as well. While I admit, paying $5 to be in the early access seems kinda dumb, they do put that towards your game time, so its another 10 days (outside the 3day head start) added to your account. Most of the complaints I've seen are from people who waited until the last minute to put in their pre-order key and didn't make it into the early access.
As far as gameplay goes, I'm having an absolute blast. The character classes are a lot of fun and the setting is very well done.

Oh man, whats up with all this positive-ness. Now I feel like I should be giving it a shot, instead of ignoring it like I planned.
