Obligatory reminder that corporations do not have to humor free speech - they are not the government and can censor as they please.

True they get away with censoring people, though as legal people corporations should also be up held to the same standard as real people and banned from censoring people. If Corporation "A" doesn't like what people say they can stick it in their ass.

"Politically correctness" is not really what's being enforced here, rather they are preventing people from using the name because it just so happens that outside of actually studying history, the majority of usage for the name 'Hitler' is for expressing hate against others. That's the way it is. One can act like 'oh I just happened to name myself Hitler' but they wouldn't be fooling anyone, it's always been to incite anti-Semitism when people do that sort of thing online or on Xbox LIVE. In addition, the usual 'I'm insulted by someone saying xxxxxx, why isn't it all banned then?' thing can't apply, because the crimes Hitler committed are far above and beyond what others have done on this planet in modern times and therefore are in a special category that does make it unique, and hence, gets special attention.

Yes, we all have the right to 'free speech' in the U.S., but not if it's harmful to fellow citizens of the U.S., where it is classified as 'hate crime,' crimes targeting specifically someone for their race, gender, religion, orientation, etc.

We're not talking about 'I like Nike!' versus 'I like Adidas!' people here...

Ill Trooper, can't tell from reading your post, but are you suggesting naming a Mii 'Hitler' is an actual hate crime? Sure, it's hateful and asinine, but please tell me you're not suggesting it's a crime?

Oh, and as far as this goes "Yes, we all have the right to 'free speech' in the U.S., but not if it's harmful to fellow citizens of the U.S.,"

Yes, yes we do still have that right.

Possible. Modern Japan is notorious for glossing over the events of World War II, pretty much the only places that make an effort to acknowledge it are (for obvious reasons) Hiroshima and Nagasaki

I don't understand why so many of you seem upset by this. Hitler and his actions were no joke, and I think it's perfectly alright for Nintendo to prevent people from making them out to be one.

I really don't see the harm, personally, and oppose the speech restriction

However, it's not like it'll do any good. It's a restriction against Mii names. Hiitler would get the point across and probably slide right through. That's the bane of language filters

Black neatly-parted hair, weird accent, little tache... I thought I'd never seen Alan Hansen with a 'tache when he played for Liverpool...

Srsly tho, I'm amazed Nintendo allow everyone's favourite Fascist tyrant even on the Mii channels. Must be as close as the idiots can get to bragging to the world about how racist they are.

This is hilarious. Me and my friends used to play COD4 on Xbox Live with our clan tags set to "HTLR" and people would get all up and arms, it's hilarious.
I did an internet search and I guess there are real clans with the same clan tag too.

As you get older and meet more people, you'll understand more and then it will make sense why making a 'HTLR' clan is what assholes do, and you probably won't do that anymore.

Sorry it's going to take so long, but you'll get there.

i tried to play as Hitler before the game came out in the US, it was still banned. I played as Joseph Goebells instead. For the whole hour until I realised it wasn't actually worth the effort.

What's with this? I know my friend has quite a few Miis made from famous dictators. Hitler, Mao, Stalin, Kim Jung Il, Marx, and others. I mean, it's all the more fun when you beat them in baseball or boxing or some crap like that.

He also has Miis of Hollywood actors, like Samuel L Jackson.

I'd hate to see Nintendo start banning Miis for political correctness.

Devil's Crush got edited because the ADL said Satanic imagery was offensive to Jews. Capcom can't bring Bionic Commando to the VC because it includes Hitler. Now you can't have Hitler Mii's race in Mario Kart? Isn't this kinda one-sided? Is there a Nintendo of Israel we don't know about?

As if NOBODY else in the world has the surname "Hitler" ???

I mean, if someone named Heinrich Jones tries to conquer the world, and kills millions of people, are they going to forbid anyone with the name "Jones" in their username to play online after that?

What if it's some dude named Jim Hitler, from Omaha, Nebraska? What if it's pronounced "High-tler" in that family? DISCRIMINATION!

OK. Play the naive card.

As if we don't know why people put 'Hitler' in their name online.

I'm sure this wouldn't be the first time 'Jim Hitler from Omaha' would be encountering this sort of thing.

Then you're stupid.

If you are seriously bemoaning the lack of "freedom" to portray a cartoon version of a notorious dictator who helped orchestrate the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people due to perceived inferiority, I think you need to get your priorities in order and grow the fuck up.

Funny you should mention that - worldwide, the history channel said there were only three families left with the Hitler surname, all of whom try and avoid having boys so as not to continue the name.
