Just because someone gets WiiFit, doesn't mean they won't ever go outside again, or don't already exercise anyway.

Home exercise products don't work? People without brains "by" them up all the time? Are you one of them, and can't handle actually exercising at home? Sorry if that's the case, but plenty of people can handle home exercise equipment and use it.

"unable to make a complete logical thought." Hmmmm.... "None of this is about getting people fit or even entertaining people anymore." Hmmmm...

Wait a minute, I bet I know what happened, you actually bought WiiFit and it called you a fatty? Thus your rant?

Don't get me wrong, I looove gimmicks...just not $90 ones. I definitely want one of these boards if they can figure out how to make some actual games for it (I hear rumor of using it as a duck pedal for Time Crisis, if so, sold.)

With any luck, by the time that happens, I'll be able to pick one of these up on ebay in a month or two for a song.

They were going for close to $200 on eBay as of last night. They seem to be around the $130 mark this morning, though.

At least they aren't advertising it as coming with 20 games or whatever.

Fucking scammers.

I had heard it could also be used as pedals for future racers. However, using the board as pedals doesn't sit well with me... I'll expect a different kind of feedback - my foot moves down as opposed to me just putting more force on the object.

Not sure, but does the board have rumble?

It's going for $200 *now*, but unless it experiences Wii-level shortages, I expect the bubble on this one to bust pretty quickly. Since it's being marketed as both a game and a piece of excercise equipment, and is really neither, I'm thinking that it'll end up going the way of the Thighmaster and Ab-Roller pretty quickly.

Seriously, this thing cost too much money for the limited use it provides.

I picked up an exercise DVD for $10 the other day and I'll get more use and results out of that then I would Wii Fit.

I'd rather Nintendo focus on making better games, more original IP's and kicking these 3rd party developers in the butt then waste their time with novelty crap like this.

My Wii is collecting dust Nintendo!

My Xbox 360, on the other hand, is getting all my love these days.

Do you own any of the following?
• Guitar Hero
• Rock Band
• Time Crisis
• Donkey Konga
• Eye Toy

Because if you say yes to any of those, they too cost too much money for the limited use they provide. If you say no to all of those, than congratulations - you have defeated my attempt at sarcasm.

You are waaaaaay off base for including Rock Band (and to a lesser degree, Guitar Hero) in that group. If you owned a GH guitar for PS2, you can play 4 (soon to be 5) seperate titles with it. On the other hand, Rock Band (at least the 2 "online enabled versions") releases fresh content on a weekly basis, constantly infusing the title with new life.

I understand that by only owning a Wii, you might have a different perspective on the lasting value of these titles, but it's certainly not fair to lump them in with the Konga bongos or the not-sold-seperately Time Crisis guns.

Including GH and RB is as off base as saying the Balance Board is to limited, though. There's already We Ski out and some 30 or so other games (if memory serves) are in development and coming out soon, including that Skate It game.

And will those 30 games conform to the rigid quality standards that Nintendo has established for the console itself? I mean, sure, there's hundreds of games available already for the Wii, but honestly, how many of them do you actually want to play? (Catz2 aside, since I'm totally buying that!)

Me personally? I don't really want to play any of them...although I'd like to try We Ski, at least.
And a snow boarding game.

...and something where you fly around on hover boards and hit people with swords. That would be awesome.

Also, Catz 2 rocks!

This is what you get when you try to bring in the benefits of arcade games onto consoles: it's not a bad thing, but sometimes to play some good ones, you have to pony up extra.

Hey guys, if you look at 1up.com review, they don't really give it a score. Yes I know when the review was first posted it had one, but the score was removed because it's not really something can be reviewed easily

http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3167774&p=44

Also for whoever wanted some games that used it, Wii Ski is supposed to be compatible with it.

Right: Instead of playing Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, No More Heroes, and Brawl, he could've been playing the infinitely more original and innovative Halo 3, Grand Theft Auto 4, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, Half Life 2 Episode 2, Team Fortress 2, etc

The idea that Nintendo franchises are somehow more rehashed than other franchises is starting to wear a bit thin

Uhh both of those games are quite original and innovative, especially TF2. If you want to lump in a bunch of other sequels and rehashes, that's fine, but your comment shows your lack of playtime with these two titles (especially TF2).

You're missing the point though. These "rehashes" are just as good as the originals. So in effect, you just proved the point of those you were just trying to contradict.

Good luck next time, though!

I for one applaud Nintendo for Wii Fit. The Wii was marketed to everyone, so obviously they would come out with games for every type of gamer. What's wrong with getting more people involved in their Wii's?
There is no downside to it. More people will buy Wiis, more people will play, and more people will buy games, eventually even "hardcore" games. There will always be room for the "hardcore" games on the Wii. They might not be hardcore mature shooters, but some gamers don't want hardcore mature shooters all the time, or at all. Some people like strategy, some like RPGs, some like shooters, some like platformers, and others like ALL of them. You know?

That's the thing, for the most part they're NOT moving onto other games. Someone's 12 year old sister, or 40 somethin Mom, or grandparents aren't going to move onto call of duty, or a 50 hour RPG like Lost Odyssey or Oblivion. If they were then lost odyssey would be in the millions by now.

Instead they just continue to every now and then buy more shovelware which leads to more shovelware and leads to everyone else copying and releasing shovelware and next you know you're up to your eyeballs in shit. That is the future of this industry if sony and microsoft tag along next generation (and there's no financial reason why they shouldn't)

This has been explained to you before...People aren't going to go straight from Wii Sports to Oblivion.
They will eventually, of course, thanks to games like, oh say, Mario Kart bridging the gap.
But those kind of 'hardcore' games aren't even on these people's radars.

Perhaps the Wii Fit crowd won't pick up Oblivion of Call of Duty, but I suspect the casual market did give a boost to sales of Brawl and Mario Kart (both of which are on track to exceed the lifetime sales of their Gamecube predecessors.)

And I don't see much of a connection between casual games and shovelware. Quality casual games like Guitar Hero 3 and Wii Fit are the big sellers on Wii for that audience. "Hardcore" gamers can be blamed on the resounding success of licenced games like Spiderman 3 and Transformers.

That's the thing though, both Mario Kart and Smash Brothers have a HUGE "hardcore" following, many of which now feel alienated by how watered down and "accessable" their franchises have become.

But hell, if people keep buying games, any type of game, including hardcore RPGSs and shooters, there will always be more.

I really don't feel that Mario Kart Wii has been watered down at all, the only item that i feel is "too cheap" is Bullet Bill, and i only rant about it right after i get run over by it

And believe me, i was skeptical when i saw bikes, tricks, the Wiil, and those wide tracks. The former two i thought could be gimmicks, the Wiil could make the game too imprecise, and the wide tracks could make it too easy, but the game really works. Easily the 3rd hardest rainbow road, and the hardest overall if you exclude the 2D games

So I guess I defeated your attempt at sarcasm. Sorry.

I draw the line at $60. If I have to pay more then that for anything video game related I usually wait until it's cheaper. So GH and RB are off my radar.

Nintendo loves that this irks some gaming folks (including those paid by Nintendo to post both raves and irks), as it knows that all that is important is that folks talk about their wares.

Joystiq knows this as well as their business is all about traffic, even artificial traffic.

Wiifit has not only been getting decent previews, but it has been getting good reviews all around, and yet people choose to ignore the positive reception and still lable it shovelware(which doesn't even make sense). It's really amazing how people will just ignore these things just so that they can go on and bitch about it.

Elitism: It's a very sad thing to see.

Nintendo is soooooo raping the competition this generation. All the hate in the world from the hardcore kids cant stop it.

May I be so bold as to suggest that all this hate and fear is misguided? I too was once like you (but probably less greasy and better looking), I too was threatened by an influx of new consumers into my geeky pastime. Games that I liked seemed to get made less and less, put on the back burner so one more fps could be shat into the market..

I poo poo'd the idea of jacking up the prices of consoles a couple hundred dollars (not to mention the price of the HD tv needed) to turn machines whos primary function I believe should be for playing video games, into low end pcs or media hubs. To me it seemed these companies where bowing out of the console market. This threatened my idea of what video games should be, I was convinced it would cause the disappearance of more traditional video games, but I was wrong..

And you kids are wrong now, wii fit and space marine 52 can exist at the same time. One wont destroy the market
for the other, and yes they are both competing for the publics entertainment dollar..

My view is that most of the "hate" is manufactured in hopes of getting more traffic around their product. Nintendo pays people to both rant and rave. As long as folks are talking about it (both good and bad) they are very happy.

I couldn't care less about what anyone of you here think, but it's perhaps thanks to WiiFit that I might be able to finally convince my parents to get a Wii.

"Casual games" are necessary stepping stones to bring hardcore gaming to a bigger audience.
