(Cue The Incredible Hulk "Lonely Man" theme after the break) According to CVG, the latest issue of Xbox World 360 states that Splinter Cell Conviction is going dark until late 2009 or Spring 2010. The magazine speculates Conviction was sent back to the drawing board after games like Ubisoft's own Assassin's Creed made it seem outdated.
Ubisoft's response to the story has been to pull a "no comment" and say that the news piece is pure speculation. Videogaming 247 states the last press release about the title (from last Summer) had Conviction hitting retail in late 2007. Some answers on Conviction's fate may be revealed at Ubisoft's UbiDays event in Paris next week
I love the Splinter Cell games; it's disappointing that Conviction remains, ironically, unseen. The Lonely Man theme is an appropriate choice for this story.
I'm really looking forward to this one too especially since Conviction was complete balls (as is the norm with their Shanghai studio) and they apparently learned something from that. Not holding my breath though.
This is actually surprising news to me. I wonder if they're going to end up taking the Assassin's engine and just re-skin it as Splinter Cell. Honestly? I'd probably buy it if they did.
this did seem rather similar to AssCreed. Though it looked more fun to me, werent they trying for the "bourne idenity" type vibe? hopefully they pull it off better than that bourne "game".
Agreed. As for the 'Bourne' videogame, it felt like the entire game evolved from the basic idea of "punch bots". :\ Nice idea, badly executed(no pun intended).
Yeah, you're right about that. Chaos Theory was one of my top 5 games last-gen, but unless they were planning on making this one DRASTICALLY different than the yawner that Double Agent was, I don't mind waiting for them to get it right. We've all got plenty of stuff to play between now and then anyway...
Going back to the drawing board is not a delay. Its starting all over. I guess they realized what they had so far was shit and decided to make a good game now.
And if thats the case, Good! Take whatever time you need, but don't let us down.
About time. I was never a fan of the Conviction idea. Ubi already tried to "reboot" the franchise with Double Agent, and that sucked. The only good mission in that game was the very first one, and only because it followed the *classic* Splinter Cell formula. The rest of the game felt like an exercise in "hey guys, look how different this is!".
We need Sam Fisher back in his goggles, sneaking into secret military bases, blowing stuff up, snapping necks, etc etc. Chaos Theory was AWESOME, they took the classic formula, added a few cool bits, gave it a good story, and let it run. BRING BACK CLASSIC SPLINTER CELL :(
:( Really, this makes me sad... because any or all of the following will now occur:
a] They literally scrapped nearly the entire thing and will build up from scratch(which hasn't always been a bad thing - just look at DMC3/RE4).
b.1] Pending a possible 8/10 or higher score for this game; the "rabid" SPLINTER CELL fans(note how I distinguished from regular ones)will claim this game will bury MGS4.
b.2] Pending a possible 5/10 or less score for this game; the "rabid" METAL GEAR fans(note how I distinguished from regular ones)will claim this game will buried the SPLINTER CELL series. Why people even bother to compare these two games for reasons beyond the stealth element or the fact that they're games, is beyond me...
c] A laugh-in-the-face at even a mention of a Wii version.
I can see how you could compare the MGS and SC games. While MGS is more story focused and SC is more mission-objective based, they are both stealth games...and that's not exactly the biggest genre out there (the only others coming to mind are Thief and that shitty jewel-thief-chick game..Entrapment, or something.) Comparisons are really only natural at that point.
He means Disaster Day of Crisis, which has been delayed... Even more.Honestly, when it comes to delays Sony doesn't even come close to Nintendo. Nintendo's the delay king.Which isn't a bad thing for either company, delays are rarely a bad thing.
What happened to you? We missed you in the 'Haze gets 4.5 Poor rating from IGN' story. I guess you decided to skip it all together eh? Smart move because it got scary in there.
huh? cancelling my pre order? just because someone gave it a 4.5? I didn't know that I had the same tastes as that reviewer...
Anyway, no, I didn't go there because there is no point, sheppy and Vidi already stated what needed to be mentioned, what happened Fenix? still pissed over the other day? and Nando? pissed because yesterday me and sheppy called WiiFit is awful and showed you that Kinetica makes it look like shit? I guess that is why right afterwards you just said lol and logged off?
Funny, even the guns look meh compared to Halo. Anyway you know what I mean buddy. Halo 3 has a TON of cool features that set it apart from any FPS. Don't go comparing the 'blandness' (reviewers words not mine) that is Haze to teh HALOZ! Hey Trev what happened to you getting the 360 Elite soon? =(
Honestly, I always get too excited for splinter cell games until I get them home. Then they don't get played too much. So this delay will be just fine with me.
Double Agent blew. I am a big time Splinter Cell fan..First 3 were fantastic titles. Double agent penalized you for actually killing people and hiding the bodies..WTF? I guess its fun to take America's biggest badass and walk around doing nothing and not hurting anyone. Yippee. I didn't like the direction this one was headed in anyway. Ubi, Splinter Cell was fantastic in 1-3. Stick to that formula please. I also hope this goes multi platform, played DA on my 360 (and was dissapointed) but now only own a PS3..Hopefully with the PS3 coming along they will reconsider the exclusivity. As it was though, conviction's previous direction left me thinking, "oh well, hope MGS4 new 3-D camera will replace my stealth killing void"
