Street Fighter, Mega Man going mobile
How many times have we been sitting on the city bus, bored and without handheld, only to turn to our cellphone for some bastardized version of Snake or Bejewelled? It's not something we like to think about, being forced to drive down the nail of boredom with the Great Hammer of Meh. However, a new mobile partnership now looks to have us struggling to pull off dragon punches on our keypads as well.
According to mobile content provider Handango, the company has partnered with Capcom to bring the Street Fighter and Mega Man franchises to its online store and mobile client on BlackBerry and Windows Mobile phones. Other franchises are promised as well, including miniaturized versions of Are you Smarter Than a 5th Grader? and the deal's underwhelming debut release, Who Wants to be a Millionaire? It will be interesting to see what other Capcom franchises make the jump to mobile phones as part of this agreement, though honestly we're more interested in how in the world we're going to pull off that dragon punch.

Who is that on the right? Balrog(M. Bison in Japan)?
Joel Rose @ May 20th 2008 10:57AM
Yeah, basically. He's known as 'Mike' in the game pictured (SF1). It's assumed that he's the boxer in SF2. As you said, in Japan he's M.Bison, so that would make him Mike Bison. As you probably know, that's why Capcom changed the boss names around in the US.

I bought Mega Man II for my mobile and it's unplayable. Horribly unresponsive. I'm considering calling to get my money back.

Yeah, it all depends on the phone. I have a port of the same mobile version on my Sidekick and it works fairly well. (The sidekick's layout helps a lot) The only issue is you can't control the height of your jump very well. You basically have to push 'down' after jumping to make a shorter jump. A friend of mine has a standard designed phone and also has Mega Man 2 and he has a lot of issues. If you try to get your money back, good luck. Some games are just not intended to be played with one hand.

This is why I don't buy mobile games, they controls just suck.

Any game on a cell phone that wasn't designed for a cell phone will just have horrible controls, period. Most cell phones have nothing resembling a dpad, or the ones that do have them in places that make using your right hand nearly impossible.

I got Street Fighter 2 for my cellphone, it's the same thing, if the had released it on Nes, got about 2 frames of animation per move...

The guy on the right looks like Reggie Fils-Aime

Wow, he's really into that Wii Boxing, isn't he?
Batzarro(A.K.A Rap-Rock Cameo) @ May 20th 2008 12:52PM
They're not REALLY doing Street Fighter 1...are they?
xeleion @ May 20th 2008 3:39PM
Haha, awesome.

Am I the only one who read this article and think "What kind of fucking moron would want to play Mega Man on their crappy cellphone?"
