A slime approaches, and by slime we of course mean the DS remake of 1990 Famicom classic Dragon Quest IV. A NeoGAF poster has found that Square Enix has quietly launched the official teaser site for Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen, listing the still unannounced localization for release stateside on September 16.
Even more interesting, the site also shows off logos for upcoming remakes Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride and Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Reverie as well, though sans release dates, all but assuring that North American role-playing enthusiasts will be neck-deep in metal slimes for the foreseeable future.

Change the words "Dragon Quest" to "Final Fantasy" and flip the V and the I, and I will officially give a fuck.

Doing it wrong.
And the FF6 3D remake is no doubt coming as soon as they crank out 5.

Well... Final Fantasy is very popular because it was the firt 3D Final Fantasy and because it was the first JRPG for a lot of people.
But overal, the best FF game is still Final Fantasy VI.

I'm glad the DS is starting to build up its RPG library, seeing as that is one of my favourite genres. Though, I do wish the big hitters like Square would be less reliant on the remakes and such.
Like, they really tried to do something new with TWEWY and that's turned out to be the best game of the year, so far. So I know it's within them.
But yeah, I'll buy this.

There are several new Square Enix games on the DS besides Final Fantasy remakes.
The World Ends With You, Heroes of Mana, Dragon Quest series, Front Mission, Children of Mana, Sigma Harmonics, Arkanoid, Egg Monster Hero, Space Invaders, upcoming Valkirye and Kingdom Heart game...
And all the FF remakes and spin-offs, and the Tactics games.

3cubed,
El Mundo Se Termina Con Ti (asi se dice?) es uno de los juegos que no puedo dejar de jugar. Es uno de los mejores juegos del DS y el mejor RPG que Square ha hecho en mucho tiempo.
Sorry if some of that is said incorrectly; Spanish is my second language. ; )

I just have to say w00t with this one. I consider this different from the typical remakes because these haven't been remade for the US before, unlike many of the other remakes (ie FF remakes) which are the third or fourth remake of a game.
Plus, I've never played these games, and I really want to play them.

They had to adopt a law in Japan to ban the release of Dragon Quest games on weekday, based on the success of DQ3. That's how popular it is (the law is still in function today).
I've loved every bit of every single one of them. If you want to beat them all, I suggest you start with the first ones (on NES emulation probably). It's not the most beautiful game in the world, but since (unlike Final Fantasy) it's a "continuous" story (each telling the story of a descendant of the family who is destined to basically save the same world every millennium or so), you'll get all historical references this way (like ruins that were once a castle that was home to first hero, etc etc).

That is a commonly quoted untrue statement. There is no such law. Look it up.

I did, and now I did further.
The wikipedia article is wrong (as many others). I won't change it because I had a really bad experience with edits, but feel free to do so. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon_Warrior_III
Actually, the truth is that the government made a suggestion and Enix made it an internal policy. Not same thing, but close enough ;) Thanks for clarification.

DQIV was far and away my favorite NES game, and I've got so many fond memories of playing it in my room when I was a kid. I was kinda heartbroken when the US release of the Playstation remake was canned so near to completion. When I heard about the DS version, I wondered if THAT would make it over here, and I'm quite happy to hear it will.

I'm very excited for this. DS already has an amazing library (although it's been slowing down these days.. I haven't bought a game in close to a year when it used to be a few per month..), but I'm definitely going to get this and the sequels, I was hoping they would come to usa. They are good.. right?
After these I'm totally hyped for FF4-6 remade in 3d even though I already bought them on GBA.. if they look anything remotely like FF3DS they will be stunning. Then it's just a matter of DQ9 coming stateside to continue the amazingness... then all that's left in my eyes to complete the circle is to do Chrono Trigger, Mario RPG and *gasp* Seiken Densetsu 3 to america. PLEASE.

I've waited quite some time for this.
A lot of people seem to get down on Dragon Quest for it's ancient mechanics, but that's pretty much the appeal. I -like- getting lost in a nice, familiar type of game. It relaxes me so nicely. Dragon Quest games have also been just good at making fun worlds that I want to spend time wandering around in.
