Having interviewed both Itagaki and Hayashi, let me say that the latter is a far nicer person to be around.

You have to hand it to Itagaki, he can really talk some smack. NG (sigma included ofc) is IMO one of the best action games of all time. From what I've seen of NG2, I'm not convinced he pulled It off again. Right or wrong at least he's got the stones to speak frankly. Oh and for the record he can kiss my. @ss.

You have to keep in mind though that it is becoming tradition to trash your last title, regardless of the quality. I firmly believe it is the intention of the developers to create hype about their new game.

They want customers to think, "Wow, if they think that last game was crap, then their new game must be mind blowing!"

Excitement about Ninja Gaiden II has diminished a little bit as the realities of the game and its “depth” sink in. The empty streets, the same old graphics style, etc. etc. He most likely made this sensationalist statement specifically to counter the lack of interest and thining media coverage.

Well that's a no-brainer. XD

Didn't nab Sigma, tried the demo but it didn't grab me. Meanwhile I'm still trying to beat Bael's ugly-ass face into a pulp in Dante Must Die mode. Ah well.

Since when has the lack of evolution (let alone revolution) caused anyone to think less of a next-gen game? I've seen repeat after bland repeat get high marks on all three consoles. If you're going to judge Ninja Gaiden by that measure, then everyone had better start casting a harder light on when reviewing the next shooter, sports, racing, or fighting sequel to hit the shelves.

The man is retarded. The absolute polar opposite of Kojima. When developing Ninja Gaiden he said all sorts of crap like this about other games while saying his is amazing. "all other developers will stop making games when they see it" or some crap like that. So upgraded graphics, a smoother framerate, less loading times, and extra missions as a previously unplayable character makes Sigma crap. I can't wait to see Ninja Gaiden 2 come out, and be EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE FIRST ONE! His response will probably be that his holy formula of Ninja Gaiden was so perfect in the first one that he decided not to add any new elements or mechanics. I repeat, the man is retarded.

besides water combat, survival mode new textures and lighting, Sigma had little to offer really from NG Black.

the inclusion of Rachel IMO, weakened Ryu's story of vengence. the DCTF was pretty laggy as a weapon.

Sigma managed to make water look worse for some reason, and even tho the game is installed it finds ways of loading, MIDFIGHT, halting the action.

there's some minor mishaps like 2 extra costumes missing and Ryu's afterimage missing from every move it involved.

i'd be disappointed too if my game design was messed with. but all that aside he was kinda harsh.

but damn does Ninja Gaiden 2 look good. :D

DCTF was never "laggy", as you say. Ever stop to think that maybe it's the player and not the game? You are also right that it didn't bring much new things. I don't think I played NG for the story. Anyone else care to comment? *sigh. I want NG2 on ps3, but I don't think it'll happen >_>. I still do hope they'll port it though, get it out to as many customers as possible to maximize profit.

A port to the PS3 isn't going to happen. The game is being published by Microsoft Game Studios rather than Tecmo. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ninja_Gaiden_II_(Xbox_360_Game)

Personally, I'm sticking with "Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos" for the NES. I still can't get past the second level.

Eggy's right sadly. Moneysoft is paying a ton of money to an "exclusive" 360 title.

Sigma was awsome. I also loved ninja gaiden on the ds too. But wow what an ass. They are also charging to 2 bucks and 50 cents for extra skins that are on the disc for the 360 version. Also the camera is not working too well on NG 2.

I hope that Ninja Gaiden 2 is ported to the PS 3. I also have a wii and ds so I'm not really a fanboy. It's just sad that microsft is paying so much money to have GTA 4 dlc and Ninja Gaiden 2. Sony should at least buy back the games or something. They have the money to do this. They aren't poor.

Overall, buying three consoles gets a little to expensive. I also don't justify buy a 360 if it's not going to outlast a 20 year old NES or SNES, Sega, hell Neo-Geo too. Even the dreamcast is still doing amazing for outlasting a xbox. Granted I know that they have "fixed" the issue with better processors but jeez I also hear that the issue of red ringing is still there. The problem with the 360 was that microsoft treated gaming hardware like software which windows it's the best operating system even though it's the most widely used. Although Live is what the 360 got right and coming out sooner too.

I'm going to still hope that Ninja Gaiden 2 will be ported over to the PS3 maybe by 2009. Since Sigma was clearly the better port over the original xbox versions.

Itagaki is perfect for Microsoft, he fits right in there. This is just to make Microsoft look like a better console, hes kissing their ass all the way. IMO its just sad.

Besides every review I've seen says Sigma is the definitive version of NG1, so screw him. NG2 won't beat the original anyways.

every fan of NG would agree to differ with Sigma being the definitive. Rachel in the story mode was a swift kick to the balls. it marred the point of the game's theme and had little to offer other than cheap eye candy.

and have you seen the Izuna drop impalement move with the DCTF on NG 2? it's beautiful in motion. NG 2 will surpass the first in every way possible.

Sometimes its more profitable to have a successful game on a less successful platform than it is to enter a saturated market and compete in a genrea the PS3 is doing better for..

I'm guessing he's counting on the US and Euro markets (both bigger than Japan by a long shot), and the fact he wont have to worry about GoW and Heavenly Sword etc must help too..

Saying that, I'd love NG2 on the PS3 despite having both machines, i just prefer playing things on the PS3. XD

I don't think he's saying it's bad, just that it lacks upgraded features. Look at the Metal Gear series for instance, each one shares basic mechanics but adds a few features that directly affect gameplay.

it's a definitive sequel of what it sets out to do. it's wise to keep the formula. they won't give Ryu a grappling hook ala DMC4 and say "hey we changed the formula! it's a bonafide sequel!"

I have a PS3 and a 360, and I haven't seen one game on either platform that I say... wow, that couldn't have been done on the other system. What this really boils down to is politics... not hardware. NGS and NG2 aren't great because of the platforms they run on... its the games themselves that make them what they are.

You may not have seen one yet, but PS3 devs are finally taking advantage of PS3's Bluray capacities, so take a look at some of PS3's games at the end of this year, such as Resistance2, which simply couldn't be done on 360, even if Sony was willing.

However, I do totally agree that as long as a game is good, it doesn't matter what console it's on. In the case of 360 vs PS3, though, PS3 has enough space to make bigger games than is possible on 360 (though admittedly, bigger isn't always better). I'm not saying 360 doesn't have good games (because it does), I'm simply saying Microsoft should have jumped on the Bluray wagon with their console when Sony gave them the chance. Of course, they also should have done more R&D on their console so they wouldn't release a piece of crap, but they didn't do that either.

What I don't get is, why did he decide to develop NG for the Xbox/360? Xbox sales in Japan have always sucked, usually Japanese developers don't make big games for it. The best XBOX games are mostly American, where Japan is best known for Nintendo/PS titles.
Guess he really is a black sheep, and an ass.
But I would like to play NG2, but don't want a 360 until M$ redesigns that piece of sh!t. I can't believe they haven't yet. Too many people I know with many broken systems.

I'm really sick of hearing from Itagaki. When Sigma for the PS3 came out, he was ranting and raving about how the PS3 was the system of the future and that it was the best next-gen system (which was the reason NG was ported to it rather than to the 360).

Now he's singing the 360's praises.

He seriously just says whatever he's paid to say.

Not really worried about not playing Ninja Gaiden II, not after lthe whole Sigma experience, although it's interesting that a game with almost zero replayability would appear on a console that thrives on convincing it's user base to play the same damned games over and over again.

This guy is real funny because his studio has not changed much of their graphics since dreamcast. Look at the evolution of dead or alive2 first it came out on dreamcast then ps2 and it was only enhanced. After that it came out on xbox and still wasn't much of an upgrade they still looked the same. Then finally it came out on 360 and they still looked the same just with more texture and new boards. Same goes for ninja gaiden for xbox the enhanced port for ps3 looks a little better but ninja gaiden 2 looks like the same for 360. This guy is a joke.

Leave it to Itagaki to make a career out of selling the same game over and over. Anyone who has followed the DOA series knows what I'm talking about. Ninja Gaiden is no exception. NG2 looks pretty much the same as Sigma, just a few new weapons, but apart from that, nothing special. And the reason he's talking smack about the PS3 now is because M$ is paying him some top dollar to keep the game exclusive.

I'm not going to bash Itagaki because his persona is a known "phenomenon" in the gaming industry. He spouts hyperbole and vitriol in equal parts so I ignore most of the nonsense he says; good or bad.

I just wanted to start that I played NG on the Xbox and really enjoyed it. I then picked up NGB (knowing it was pretty much a remake) and abandoned it after a few days. Maybe it was just an impulse buy - maybe I thought there would be more in it than there was.

I thought of picking up NGS on the PS3 until I read more into it and it was confirmed that it is, once again, the same game rehashed AGAIN. How many times can you remake the same game? This really smacks of greedy studios churning out titles just to squeeze more coin from a licence.

I checked out the footage of NG2 and I have to say (and I'm sure someone will shout PS3 fanboy!) I wasn't that impressed. The blood was so over the top that I couldn't see what the hell was going on. It was like watching the Transformers movie but with ninjas and gore. Lots of pretty polygons flying around and no idea if it's actually any good or an improvement on the previous gen.

So, I wasn't upset to hear NG2 was staying on the 360. They can have it. I *honestly* don't see the appeal to this man's games anymore. I'm sure it will sell buckets though, and I'm sure people will enjoy it . That's the best thing about the gaming industry - not everyone is going to like the same games.

Bought NGS few months back. Played for awhile then but stopped. Started playing again the other week and got soo bored and sick of quickly. Gameplay very repetative and boring, waaay to much backtracking and $hit camera. Up to 13th or 14th chapter but not going to bother finishing it, just a big snooze fest for me. Heavenly Sword may not be perfect but certainly better than this piece of $hit.

Itagaki has always seemed like a major freak/creep to me especially because of the DOA games. Having NG 2 remain 360 exclusive is hardly going to be a loss for the Playstation community.
