A statement by Sony PR on the PlayStation Blog clarifies some details about Killzone 2's delay to February 2009 and confirms that the game is also being released in North America that month (previously, that date had only been confirmed for Europe). Sony's Ron Eagle explains that the game was intentionally delayed because the fall release calendar was already full.
Eagle points out that if Killzone 2 was released this fall, it would be the third shooter in the PS3 marketplace (joining SOCOM and Resistance 2) fighting for retail dollars, so the decision was made to push its release into the new year (how'd they decide which to delay -- flip a coin?). Eagle insists that "there is nothing wrong" with Killzone and the so-called delay is a "pure management decision." If holiday 2008 is anything like last year, our wallets are already thankful to the management for the breathing room.

If that were the case it would have sold better then Halo, I personally found it more entertaining, thats for sure, and aliens were worth killing, but yet, Halo sold more.

Because management always loves to miss the Christmas season, right?

Makes sense, Sony doesn't want to cannibalize itself. However, the ordering opens an interesting discussion. On one hand, Sony doesn't want to let loose a major release in a weak month like February, meaning they think KZ2 is not turning out to be very good. On the other hand, it could also mean Sony is so confident KZ2 will be amazing it will not be negatively impacted by being released after the holiday season.
I'm personally leaning option one. Killzone is not a AAA pedigree, it's a terribly well known and the last mass market push on the PS2 was not recieved with high (decent, but nothing great) marks. The PSP version is not considered mass market in my book given the limited PSP market at the time of it's release and failure to break the top 100 in sales.
So, Sony wants to maximize software sales over the holiday season and opted to leave KZ2 out of the hunt. This can only mean it isn't a game worth getting worked up over.

they should take as much time as possible to complete this game......the 1st was rather MEH imo and the online multiplayer...forgettable.
Its not like those of us that own PS3s haven't gotten used to game delays or anything.

So 2009 is now the YEAR OF THE PS3? Wasn't Killzone 2 supposed to be out now? Man Delaystation 3 really is starting to fit the machine. I just don't think the PS3 has the game library to be delaying games to avoid competition on the same console. Poor Killzone 2 doesn't have a chance now what with all the hype. But that's what you get when you show pre rendered footage and claim it's in game LOL. That shit stays with people now that the internet keeps us reminded of the lies of Sony.

To be fair, GG never claimed it was in game footage. That was some stupid Sony PR dude who later claimed he was confused, and thought they were actually talking about the Resistance footage (which WAS in game).
Still, the in game footage of KZ2 we're seeing now does almost look as good as the CGI, and definately has the best graphics of any console game.

I just kind of wish theyd delayed the sequel to that terribad Resistance game. Killzone is so >>>>>> Resistance, its not even funny. The only reason I can even wrap my head around people ever liking that was cuz it was the only half-decent game available at launch. And no, I don't even own a 360 or a Wii.

I just thought it was dull. There was nothing in it that hasn't been done better. Granted, I didn't play it until after CoD4 was out and thats set the bar so high for the FPS genre (IMO) that I really couldn't bear to play Resistance. There really was something I didn't like about it. I can't really put my finger on it though. It could be the 2 most overdone things in video game history all wrapped up into one game thing or the controls or one of many other things. And besides, tactical shooters are my thing anyways. I guess what I'm really trying to say is, as long as SOCOM: Confrontation isn't delayed, we can still be friends, Sony and I.

I expect this did play into it. Clearly, three first party first person shooters in two months is not a good thing.
But I still think Killzone 2 is likely to disappoint. No evidence to go on other than an ill feeling, but that's how I see it.

Can someone explain to me how this relates at all to Haze? It's made by a completely different company, it's a sequel rather than a new IP, it's a realistic shooter rather than arcade, first party rather than third ect.
What's wrong with you people? A game which people were excited about on both systems such as Jericho that gets below average reviews is never mentioned again, yet a game which is exclusive to the Playstation is babbled about in every thread? Yes fans of the Playstation were excited for it, it's a game and it's on their console of choice, what's wrong with that? You've never been excited for a game which you ended up being disappointed with?
How disgusting is it that we have people who are fans of hardware, a lifeless machine, wishing ill to fans or owners of the competing machine? Especially considering the differences between all of the machines are quite minimal. This is behavior of third graders, which is giving people who play video games as a hobby a bad name.
