New MGS4 screens sneak out
Vamp and Raiden are getting uncomfortably close up there, but we're thankfully getting comfortably close to Metal Gear Solid 4's June 12 release. Konami isn't slowing down the hype machine, today releasing a batch of fresh shots from Solid Snake's last hurrah.
The screens are mainly of scenarios previously seen in trailers for the game, but do include what appears to be a new cutscene grab along with a somber shot of Snake standing amid headstones in a cemetery (which is actually the backdrop of the game's title screen). Not included: screen grabs of Konami's web page for limited-edition MGS4 PS3 orders sporting a "server outage" message.

I didn't think Vamp was so special to see him come back in a sequel. Am I the only one who liked Solidus? : (
Hyams @ May 21st 2008 6:47PM
Solidus died though, and Vamp didn't.
But yeah, I liked Solidus more too.
Ninjakamster (XBL: RNK2K) @ May 21st 2008 6:49PM
I know that Hyams, I wish the opposite would have happened though. : /
What was so special about Vamp to pick him to live instead of Solidus? Solidus may have been a little old man but with that powersuit and those submachine guns and tentacles that shot bolts of energy and being related to the main protagonist and antagonist of MGS4, WHOOO!!!!!
Hyams @ May 21st 2008 6:52PM
I'm guessing Vamp lived because he's immortal? I mean, that makes sense to me.
But yeah, we saw too little of Solidus in the MGS series. Mebbe we should have Metal Gear Solidus after MGS4's done?
Sam406 @ May 21st 2008 7:18PM
Hey, guess who also died in his first appearence?
Liquid did, and we all know his own death didn't stop him.
Gray Fox also died, and came back to life.
Maybe Solidus will live on through a leg or something, you never know with Mr. Kojima.
Pawsie @ May 22nd 2008 10:55AM
This current game is to answer all unanswered questions.. so vamp needs to be in there... all survivors.
Leobebes @ May 21st 2008 6:37PM
What happened to the cinematic polish from earlier screens? These look like Dead Rising CGI screens with more brown and greens ):
deadpool @ May 21st 2008 6:44PM
yea! if this game doesn't have all the colours of the visible light spectrum i am not buying it!
el serpiente @ May 22nd 2008 2:38AM
Oh look, its Leobabies.
Dude, I'm sorry your friends toy company got the facepalm from Kojima for being an idiot, but this is not the place for your personal vendettas.
DangerMouse @ May 21st 2008 6:37PM
Are the images available in a higher resolution, or is the 1024x576 size hinting something else?
Ninjakamster (XBL: RNK2K) @ May 21st 2008 6:38PM
Alright, MGS4 with 576P resolution and 8gb mandatory install!?!?
Hyams @ May 21st 2008 6:46PM
If I remember correctly, MGO was confirmed as being 720p by the same guy that revealed HAZE's and GTA4(PS3)'s resolutions.
So, yeah, I'm guessing you haven't got anyting to worry about with MGS4.
Fernando Rocker @ May 21st 2008 6:49PM
Hyams
It was confirmed at 665p, by the same guy who did the pixel count from Haze and GTA.
But that's only the Online game. We have to wait a few more weeks until the full game is released.
http://www.ripten.com/2008/04/25/mgo-resolution-665p-equivalent-and-30fps/
Hyams @ May 21st 2008 6:52PM
Really? I guess my memory isn't as good as I thought.
arrrgh @ May 21st 2008 7:13PM
so much for 1080p
the good part is that they made it look that good at 665 :D:D
randy @ May 21st 2008 7:20PM
The 1024x768 file resolution is on our side. Our gallery viewer maxes out at that res.
DangerMouse @ May 21st 2008 7:25PM
yeah, just found them on shacknews at 2048x1152
Fernando Rocker @ May 21st 2008 7:26PM
randy
1024 by 768 is not a 16/9 isomorphic resolution. Instead, it’s equivalent resolution (contains the same number of pixels) is 1182by665 - or 665p. It is thus accurate to say MGO renders natively at 665p.
chez @ May 21st 2008 8:02PM
Yea, seems like HD consoles have failed not only in sales, but also in namesake.
John McPoop @ May 21st 2008 9:44PM
That was the BETA
dnlkk94 @ May 21st 2008 9:52PM
These same screenshots were found at Shacknews at 2048x1152. Check it out yourself:

John McPoop @ May 21st 2008 9:53PM
Hey Fernando where did you copy and paste that from? We all know you didn't come up with that on your own ... Besides, why would a Wii-ophite like yourself be counting pixels? Have you seen how Mario Kart Wii lately? Thats one of the most hideous "next gen" games ever released even or the Wii which generally has simple and clean graphics
Vidikron (FU) @ May 21st 2008 11:37PM
@John McPoop
Hmmm... I actually think MK Wii was one of the better looking Wii games. But, yeah, Fernando is highly hypocritical.
Paul (PSN: heypaul) @ May 22nd 2008 1:02AM

Actually, if you want to get that technical, though it has the same number of pixels, by the very definition of the 'p,' it is not "accurate to say that MGO renders natively at 665p." That's quite literally the equivalent of saying that because Rosie O'Donnell is the same weight as Yao Ming, she is the same height as Yao Ming. If you want to get technical, make sure you're technically right first.
chez @ May 22nd 2008 6:13AM
I can't speak for Fernando but I just find it funny how you sony and MS people slated the Wii for its "less than HD" resolution and all that BS. Then the tables get turned and you're all trying to find excuses for it.
Frankly I don't care. I lower my resolution to up effects and quality on my PC. I just come read your fanboy comments for the massive lulz.
Mr.ESC @ May 21st 2008 6:41PM
Man what the hell happened to Rye-den and those are some fugly braces. If I was him I would fill a lawsuit against his dentist.
(Insert Generic "OMG looks awesome I can't wait" comment here)
Big Ed @ May 21st 2008 6:42PM
I believe they are called orthodontists.
Mr.ESC @ May 21st 2008 6:49PM
Yeah I know but my for defense statement I say only ghey people call them like that.
Hyams @ May 21st 2008 6:47PM
It's pronounced Ray-den in MGS2...
Mr.ESC @ May 21st 2008 6:51PM
I'm sure it was Raid-Den or Rái-den.
Hyams @ May 21st 2008 6:54PM
Well, I played and completed it a couple of days ago, and I remember being suprised when the Colonel calls him 'Ray-den' at the begining of the Big Shell mission, as I've always called him 'Rai-den'.
noskillbassist @ May 21st 2008 6:55PM
Uh... no, it's RYE-DEN. [-] for your idiocy.
Hyams @ May 21st 2008 6:57PM
Leave me alone, it's midnight and I've been revising University level Critical Theory for the English Lit. exam I have coming up. :(
Also, I'm hungry.
Mr.ESC @ May 21st 2008 7:00PM
I don't know if my comment was posted or not but noskillbassist you suck.
Mr.ESC @ May 21st 2008 7:03PM
I can see my comments again well noskillbassist -9001 for being a b*tch a$$ hater.
Mr.ESC @ May 21st 2008 7:04PM
midnight? where the hell are you?
Is afternoon here.
Hyams @ May 21st 2008 7:09PM
England, old chap.
KiraXD @ May 22nd 2008 3:26AM
its japanese... its pronounced Rye-den ... just like ninja Guy-den
Raiden
Gaiden
Rai and Gai are pronounced Rye and Guy repectively in japan... since this is where the games originate from.. try pronouncing it correctly. kthx
voodoo_craig @ May 21st 2008 6:47PM
Oh noes, it's HIM! I had no idea he was making another appearance, I kinda hoped they'd just write him out.
This game is now 20% less badass.
Hyams @ May 21st 2008 6:59PM
You say that, but have you seen him fighting? He's like the other two ninjas, only even cooler.
Mr.ESC @ May 21st 2008 7:01PM
Everytime you notice something like that it was a sorcerer.
Ninjakamster (XBL: RNK2K) @ May 21st 2008 6:51PM
Why is it that in North American versions at least, the Russian soldiers of MGS2 have Russian accents but not the ones in MGS3 who are in Russia? They had American accents, WTH?
snarfoogle @ May 21st 2008 6:54PM
Because in MGS3 everyone is speaking Russian, which is conveniently translated for us. Thus the accents are removed.
Hyams @ May 21st 2008 6:55PM
Hah hah, yeah, that's always annoyed me too.
And it looks as though MGS4 is going to carry on the butched accent tradition. The Middle-Eastern looking militia all have American accents.
Hyams @ May 21st 2008 6:56PM
snarfoogle: Then how do you explain Sokolov's accent?
Bluebrake @ May 21st 2008 7:46PM
Sokolov doesn't have an accent.
koehler83 @ May 21st 2008 7:08PM
More low res screen trying to bullshit the consumers..
Keep them to yourselves unless they're 720 pixels high!
Bluebrake @ May 21st 2008 7:47PM
Is it me, or do some of those faces not look much better than the ones in MGS3?
chez @ May 21st 2008 8:04PM
Nope, it's not just you. MGS3 was really purdy back on the PS2, clear they pushed the hardware. Not so much here.
John McPoop @ May 21st 2008 9:48PM
Mills & Boom
Thats a huge surprise coming from you ... Never would have guessed you would bash a game on the PS3 ... Shouldn't you be playing Pokemon or Wii Fit right about now?
