New Project Origin video compares, gushes blood
While some may look to water and its undulating physics as the standard for current gen eye candy, developer Monolith's yardstick is apparently a tad more crimson. The studio has released a new video for its F.E.A.R. follow-up, Project Origin, showing off the way blood will be handled in the upcoming sequel by comparing the previous game's visceral cherry mist to what can be best described as Project Origin's syrupy goop.
On the game's recently launched community website, Monolith FX guru Mark Wood explains some of the work that went into the project's interesting, if messy, take on in-game gore. Writes Wood, the team is working to make the blood "visible from far away, while still feeling meaty and satisfying at closer range," something he concedes was lacking in the original F.E.A.R. The end result looks a bit like blasting strawberry jelly out of a bad guy, which in all honesty should be reason enough to get you to watch the video below.

These clone soldiers must be made up of blood. Seriously, the human body only contains 4.5-5 liters of blood, so they must just be swimming in those suits.
Obie @ May 21st 2008 10:30AM
haha I agree. But still, that looks bloody awesome! ( get it? ;)
wscbrown @ May 21st 2008 11:55AM
What is odd about this, is that the enemies only really seem to bleed on the killshot... there is only a trickle of blood in the first 12 rounds out of the clip, and then a geyser of goo on round 13.

It looks amazing... not to bash or anything, but this game looks on par or even better than Killzone 2 footage.

they are both amazing, I wouldn't say one is above the other, its just different art direction.
Anyway, it looks promising, oh btw, is it a direct sequel to F.E.A.R.?
Mr.ESC @ May 21st 2008 1:57AM
More Quake-ish than Killzone in my opinion.
If you ask me Killzone is more like Contra in 3D trying to be serious (Opinion based on Killzone Liberation).
I loved F.E.A.R online and man the melee and the grenades were so damn cheap, good times .The mines were tricky but in the hand of an expert or someone very lucky mines could proportionate great amounts of lulz and Win.
Weird even when the PC version of F.E.A.R had free online multiplayer action (You just download the Multiplayer game and you were ready to go, no purchase needed. In fact you can still play it.) I never encounter people as gay-ish as the Halo community. People used rude language form time to time but I swear Halo community took the cake, eat it, puke it and eat it again. Seriously in one match one guy used the word b*tch so many times I lost the count after 121,In my life I have never seen such abuse of the word b*tch not even in the internet, videogames or tv altogether.
Everything because I killed him with a “Banshee”. Funny killing with a banshee is for n00bs but camping is not. Lmao Ghey-lo players.
(I’m aware the Halo rant was completely random but I just had to talk about it and took it off my chest)
DSK UK @ May 21st 2008 6:52AM
Mr. ESC:
The reason for this is prob cause most of the halo community don't know how to use a PC. The problem is that parents these days don't give a crap what their child plays, so you get teens who cant handle losing playing games they're not old enough to play
GaryM @ May 21st 2008 9:02AM
"not to bash or anything"
You're such a troll.
BananaBoat @ May 21st 2008 11:17AM
Today on Joystiq: Comparing completely unrelated games to each other (for no freaking reason)
Mr.Esc: That free multiplayer probably sucked up a good 50 hours or so of my time. People running around punching people dead...priceless (especially since there really was no defense against people punching you, even though you were armed, lol)
syrik zero @ May 21st 2008 11:28AM
Killzone looked kind of boring in that video. It could have been that guy trying to "get their attention" though. That was annoying
Mr.ESC @ May 21st 2008 11:35AM
Yeah the kicks were cheap ha ha. My favorite map was by far Campus. I had a strategy that rarely worked but when it did it pushed every other player to the other side of the map in Campus.
F.E.A.R Online included so many ways to die in a WTF way that it’s funny and the rag dolls only make things better. I have to say that the only map I hated was Cafeteria.
Also I was talking about the PC version of Halo.
I killed one guy with the bashee and he was literally ranting about how the banshee is for n00bs then I stop it using and then the little idiot took the chance to camp in the respawn point and typed insults. I was going to boot him out but it seems Bungie still don’t know what kind of people play their games and forgot to add that function either that or they are on Prozac 24/7 and they thought it wasn’t necessary because everyone can get along in the internets (Morons)
I have a lot of complain about Halo regarding the gameplay for example why there isn’t a boot button and why is friendly fire still allowed? I would also like to know why most weapons are incredibly weak. I have complains about the stupid double…f*gs playing Halo but seriously I really wanted to track his computer and address to beat the crap out him.
And yes F.E.A.R took like a month of my life and it was awesome.
browntown @ May 21st 2008 11:53AM
Its funny how hard ur trying to troll, this looked pretty good, but too clinical their in generic buildings, and the lighting isn't anything crazy, it'll be a solid title probably. It seems sorta generic to me, its just run and shoot sorta like timeshift.
Matty @ May 21st 2008 1:20AM
Am I alone in saying that I actually prefer the old blood? This looks like way too much, in my opinion.
Azurewrath @ May 21st 2008 1:23AM
its like killzone2's blood animations x 2 lol
Phi Nguyen @ May 21st 2008 1:30AM
Insta-gib?
Einhanderkiller @ May 21st 2008 1:30AM
The blood is cool, but the graphics overall are not impressive. It looks almost exactly like F.E.A.R., but with more litter objects and slightly better lighting.
And I still hate the HUD. The HUD in F.E.A.R. was great because it was simple and unobtrusive, but the one in Project Origin is just way too much.
ScottyGEE @ May 21st 2008 3:08AM
o_O I thought it was fear
Exodus @ May 21st 2008 4:20AM
You did notice that this is a Pre-Alpha build right? So the fact that it looks just as good as the old F.E.A.R. is pretty amazing in my book. Plus they are still tweaking the overall blood effect. I am sure that it will be a lot more polished in when the game is done.
Exodus @ May 21st 2008 4:22AM
I of course meant pre-beta...sorry super tired. It is 4:21 am here.
Mr.ESC @ May 21st 2008 1:43AM
Blood, blood
Gallons of the stuff
Give them all that they can drink and it will never be enough
So give them blood, blood, blood
Grab a glass because there's going to be a flood!
brandon_r87 @ May 21st 2008 2:28AM
*Brandon plays some old-timey piano*
I won't bring up the band that plays it, because chances are we're both going to get called names for liking them.
xGeneral DEATHx @ May 21st 2008 7:57AM
It's okay...I like that band too, although their image for that album was a bit disturbing. :)
I suppose I'll be the drum major with the skull for a head, since the piano player position is taken.
Lekko @ May 21st 2008 1:54AM
Needs more blood. Like, 4 times as much.
I want walking water balloon mode. Make it happen people!
FOXHOUND @ May 21st 2008 8:10AM

hmm....reminds me of NinjaGaiden2 coming out....
born2kill @ May 21st 2008 2:36AM
Instead of messing around with the blood, how about making the game not suck balls? The first one bored the crap out of me
SonofSeth @ May 21st 2008 2:57AM
Yeah, what born2kill said.
chez @ May 21st 2008 5:33AM
I thought we agreed on no more generic shooters. Hyping a game to have loads of blood, what is this Mortal Kombat's 1992 debut?
samfish @ May 21st 2008 9:04AM
Eww. That's just gross.
Phranctoast @ May 21st 2008 9:16AM
Is the video from the console or PC version?
Einhanderkiller @ May 21st 2008 7:07PM
It looks like it's from the console version.
WiNG [Life in a Game] @ May 21st 2008 10:32AM
I always loved that in Mortal Kombat, a single uppercut with a bare fist could draw more blood than a bonesaw probably would in real life.
Dralthi @ May 21st 2008 10:54AM
So, in this game, the soldiers are walking water balloons filled with blood?
Seriously that is pretty gratuitous. They need to tone it down a bit. Don't get me wrong, I like my fair share of gore but it feels a little much even for me.
GreyFox @ May 21st 2008 2:14PM
Am I the only one who laughed their balls off when they saw the new blood? I'm not sure if that's funny because it's so over the top or because it's so cool.
