New 'scream' shots of Silent Hill: Homecoming
Did we mention just how creepy the latest Silent Hill installment is in our most recent update on the game? Let's see ... yes, we did. Still, for those who either refuse to believe us – in which case you're meanies – or aren't yet convinced of its (dare we say?) fear factor, we offer you a ghastly gaggle of new shots from the game, by way of Konami. Just don't blame us if you have trouble breathing eating seeing walking talking sleeping after viewing them.

meh,, i'm not impressed. And the sexy nurses,, why the hell are they in the game?? These developers just dont get it.
Reuben @ May 21st 2008 8:33PM
The idea behind the nurses is that they're supposed to be attractive, yet also repugnant. It's very psychological. The whole series is very psychological.
Yes, I am a giant fan.
Mikey @ May 21st 2008 8:36PM
I think what he meant was that the "sexy nurses" are meant for James only, since, well... I'd have to spoil SIlent Hill 2 to explain. You should understand though.
born2kill @ May 21st 2008 8:48PM
yea, the sexy nurses are only suppose to appear to perverts. It seems like the devs. either dont care or dont understand what makes Silent Hill tick. And I heard the pyramid head might also be in it. So yea, i'm very dissapointed. I'm still gonna play it of course, but it should be so much more than what it is. Dam shame
nurseshmurse @ May 21st 2008 10:19PM
The pyramid head I'll give you, but nurses have been in every single game in the series so...yeah..
born2kill @ May 22nd 2008 12:15AM
Excluding Origins and Silent Hill 5 (made by the same clueless morons i'm bashing); the Sexy nurses (emphasis on sexy) are exclusive to Silent Hill 2, because James is a perv. In parts 1 and 3 (which are directly connected) they were not sexy, they were just scary inhabitants of the hospital which was a signifant location of the story where alissa was kept and reborn as heather. And there were no nurses in part 4.
I'm not demanding that part 5 should be as brilliant as 2, but it'd be nice if they at least tried to give a purpose to the creatures being there, instead of just fav. creature and story elements from past games. Thats what they did with Origins and it just came off very amateurish and fanboyish. We dont need another regurtiation of part 2, we need a new and unique experience.

James is a perv? It's been years since I played 2, is there something that I'm forgetting?
born2kill @ May 22nd 2008 12:22PM
Well in case you dont know, before Marry died James was a total scumbag. And the town of Silent Hill is a metaphorical representation of his inner demons that he is struggling to recognize. One of the most important demons he has to face in the game is his sexual frustration and perversity. The 'Maria' character represents his distaste and resentment of his modest wife Mary, whom he'd wanted(and probably fought with) to be like Maria; this super flirty, slutty chick who'd let him dominate her and go along with his perverse fantasies. The Sexy Nurses represent his sexual frustration from the time when he his wife was sick in the hospital and couldnt be with him sexually. While poor Mary is there dying of this cancer type illness, James the self-centered, perverted scumbag that he is, is staring at the nurses clevage and up their skirts; thinking about doing them (or maybe he did do a nurse...or two). Hence why they are faceless, have short skirts and clevage showing. James is a major perv. and a ahole to his wife. And theres lots of other metaphorical stuff in there as well. If your interested read this: http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2007/07/the_aberrant_gamer_sundering_the_mind.php
It explains alot (not all) of the metaphors and interpretations found within the game.

Good man, thanks for the update bruv. Good read.
Kujel @ May 21st 2008 8:15PM
Silent Hill has never been scary but it has always been BORING.
Arturis @ May 21st 2008 8:33PM
If it was boring, then you were playing it wrong. The best way to play a Silent Hill game is really late at night, when you are sleep deprived but still awake due to excessive amounts of caffeine. All the lights must be off, and you need at least one other friend/room mate/significant other in the room to randomly call out "OH CRAP BEHIND YOU" at the worst possible moments.
Thats how I completed Silent Hill 2, Eternal Darkness, and several of the Resident Evil games, and thats the only way they should be played.
Mr.ESC @ May 21st 2008 8:40PM
Warning:To fully enjoy Silent Hill remember that your TV most be On.
Mr.ESC @ May 21st 2008 8:43PM
Arturis:Actually you don't need that.Just keep running with low health and ammo for the game.
Is the "OH shi I hope a monster doesn't come out of nowhere and totally owns me" despair that makes it so great.I say that Silent Hill won't give you a heart attack but the OMGWTFBBQSAUCE moments are priceless.
Gehodra @ May 21st 2008 8:58PM
TV must be on? Oh snap, I knew something was wrong!
Kujel @ May 21st 2008 9:20PM
Arturis bad combat, shitty story, meh art, ass fuck controls makes SH BORING, playing sleep deprived makes me pass out with the controller in my hands. Nothing could make the last 5 SH games good, #5 maybe OK but I have my doubts.
Arturis @ May 22nd 2008 9:24PM
"bad combat, shitty story, meh art, ass fuck controls"
Ok, lets look at those claims one at a time:
"bad combat" - I disagree. I believe the combat system for Silent Hill is exactly what it needs to be - awkward and a bit clumsy. The reason for this is that all of the main SH protagonists are normal people - they don't have martial arts or military training, they don't *know* they are in a video game where you can just continue from a previous save game after an untimely death. If the main character was able to launch the enemy into the air and deliver a 25 hit combo Devil May Cry style, then all suspension of disbelief would be immediately out the window.
"shitty story" - That would be a personal opinion, and one I disagree with. The stories in the Silent Hill games are very deep, perhaps a bit convoluted at times, but anything but shitty. Silent Hill 2, being my personal favorite of the series, has a particularly jarring narrative the whole way through. If you don't appreciate it, well, I apologize but there isn't much I can do for you on that part.
"meh art" - To use one of my favorite phrases stolen from Arcturus Mengsk in the original StarCraft, "Lies and misinformation". The graphics for each installment of the series were top notch *for their time*. I say that specifically because obviously if you slap a PS1 title in to your PS3, its not going to compare to modern graphics. I remember distinctly being blown away by how life like the opening scene of SH2 was, as James stares down his own reflection in the Public Restroom mirror. The world was designed to exploit color psychology to its fullest effect - the drab grays of the real world slowly sapping at your will to go on, the rusty browns of the alternate world making your skin crawl.
"ass fuck controls" - Ewwww. Now I know why you didn't enjoy the game. I do hope you sanitized the controller afterwards.
All in all, if you want to dislike the series, I wont ever be able to change your mind. But at least ponder the possibility that there are people out there (lots of people, considering it has sold well enough to get to a 5th game) that disagree with your personal bias.
Kujel @ May 22nd 2008 10:05PM
Of course you would disagree you're a Sony bitch, you must take it deep every night from that paper weight.
Arturis @ May 23rd 2008 4:35PM
Where did I ever claim/insinuate that I prefer Sony?
I happen to be a gamer, I don't care what system the games run on, as long as the games are good. If you were to check my other comments you would realize this.
Jhongerkong @ May 21st 2008 8:35PM
That nurse is a token example of the term "butterface"
Bigfoot @ May 21st 2008 9:00PM
There will be blood. Wait, wrong movie.. er, game.. I mean, nevermind.
Residentevil72501 @ May 21st 2008 9:17PM
I have never played a Silent Hill game before but this i will play. I know im probably missing out having not played the others but sorry im a Resident Evil fanboy lol.
OTAM @ May 21st 2008 10:37PM
Comparing Resident Evil to Silent Hill is like comparing The Shining to Dawn of the Dead.
Residentevil72501 @ May 21st 2008 10:42PM
Lol I completely agree, completely different games, Actually come to think of it i remember playing the first Silent Hill when it first came out and absolutely loving it, but i never got to play anymore since i didnt have a PS1 of my own at the time.
Mr. Scolex @ May 21st 2008 11:39PM
First off, the nurses have been in every SH game to date. Yes, they were only "sexy" in SH2, and the reasoning behind that was sound storyline-wise and was included for the aforementioned psychological issues which I can't bring up in fear of spoiling the great story for some unsuspecting reader.
However, here's the thing: We know very VERY little of the game's storyline thus far, and the reasoning behind much of what happened in SH2 was not explained until the very end of the game. Who's to say that the sexy nurses aren't appropriate here as well?
And to the guy saying he heard Pyramid Head would be in it - he is not. There is a monster which serves the same basic purpose (gameplay wise, not necessarily storyline-wise, though we'll have to wait and see) which will appear in Homecoming. His name is Siam and he is has a female siamese twin growing out of his back and the top of his head. Check it out somewhere on silenthill5.net

For the record, when I made this post, that screen didn't exist, nor did any indication of such. To call me out on it when this didn't show up until three months after I made the post is a bit unfair.
Also, why are you all the way back here? Don't tell me you ran through the archives just to point this out?
