See Tekken film stars in costume
We're still not sure if we want to actually see a film based on Tekken, but we know that whether it crashes and explodes into a million pieces or narrowly escapes utter suckage, we want to see the journey leading up to it. To that end, we've got two new pictures for you of Cung Le as "Marshall Law" (above) and Jonathan Foo as "Jin Kazama" just below the jump.
We don't really feel any better or worse about the Tekken film based on these, but we have to admit one thing: They nailed the pants. Nailed them.

When will the hurting stop?
FOXHOUND @ May 21st 2008 3:47PM
Obviously, you didn't see the TEKKEN anime. x_x Anything they do live action-wise, will be better than that rubbish.
kbomb1upc @ May 21st 2008 5:01PM
Where's the 70's porn stache? Other than that looks pretty good...Foxhound I'm a really big Tekken fan (played all of them) and I have to say the anime movie was horrible by every measure...Half way through the movie I started poking myself in the eye with a blunt object because I couldn't take it anymore.
Jhongerkong @ May 21st 2008 3:53PM
The first guy actually looks the part (sans mustache of course).
100x better than the guy playing Goku in the Dragonball movie.
Hyams @ May 21st 2008 3:54PM
There's a Dragonball movie?
Sir Fidlious Wong (Justin T. McElroy Memorial Burn of the Day Award) @ May 21st 2008 3:55PM
This will be the second live action Dragonball movie. The first had a wonderful ending theme with the line "and protect of from the evil aliens that smell like monkey nuts" in it.
Osiris @ May 21st 2008 9:04PM
He doesn't even look chinese
Paul (PSN: heypaul) @ May 22nd 2008 12:49AM
He's Vietnamese. And he's one hell of a martial artist. As an Asian myself, I'll say "close enough."
Hyams @ May 21st 2008 3:53PM
Am I the only one who finds it odd whenever I see a videogame character's costume in a live action movie? The costume always looks so cheesy.
ChooChooCharlie (MK 0430-8740-2222) @ May 21st 2008 3:59PM
I agree, they do look weird.
It's kind of funny too that some cosplay I've seen actually looks better than a lot of the wardrobe outfits from videogame movies.
Ken Shammy @ May 21st 2008 4:21PM
Post production usually makes up for that. Only post production could've made 300 as manly as it turned out to be.
Sir Fidlious Wong (Justin T. McElroy Memorial Burn of the Day Award) @ May 21st 2008 3:54PM
If they do not have the epic Man vs. Raptor battle of the anime, this will fail. If it does have it, well, it will still fail but be worth putting on a Netflix queue.
xFenixKnightx @ May 21st 2008 3:56PM
Tekken games...yes please.
Tekken movie...eww.
xeleion @ May 21st 2008 3:56PM
If this is made by Asians I'll check it out, as Asian cinema's always great no matter how bad it may be. If this is American, however, then I'm sending these guys a box full of do not want.
Batzarro(A.K.A Rap-Rock Cameo) @ May 21st 2008 4:01PM
"If this is made by Asians I'll check it out, as Asian cinema's always Asian no matter how bad it may be. If this is American, however, then I'm sending these guys a box full of do not want"
There, correction made. Don't thank me.
xeleion @ May 21st 2008 4:20PM
Haha! Fortunately, I'm not one of those people who like everything Asian just because it's Asian. That was still awesome though.
Sean Newton @ May 21st 2008 5:46PM
Clearly, you have not seen Gojoe. Yeah, yeah, I know, it's more cerebral. I still got bored by it though.
Mike Sylvester @ May 21st 2008 8:20PM
Did somebody say cerebral bore???
boulderhorn @ May 21st 2008 4:01PM
A very good MMA fighter (in the UFC league) named Roger Huerta is one of the fighters in this movie. Atleast we know that one of the guys can actually fight for real. Although imagine the japanese/chinese actors also know martial arts because all japanese/chinese people are born with the ability to kung-fu. right?
Ken Shammy @ May 21st 2008 4:23PM
Cung Le's an MMA fighter too. Fights in Elite XC/Strikeforce.
I'd be more excited for Huerta if he wasn't playing Miguel. I can't imagine that one turning out non-metrosexual at all.
AoE @ May 21st 2008 8:31PM
I think in a movie it's a bit more important if someone can act for real than fight for real... Unless you're going to tell me that Huerta has Bruce Lee powers and can both fight and act... I'll need to see evidence before I can believe you though.
Paul (PSN: heypaul) @ May 22nd 2008 12:51AM
Ken, Cung beat your brother up pretty good. How do you feel about that?
Ken Shammy @ May 22nd 2008 11:39AM
That was brilliant. Serves him right for telling the press that I used 'roids.
colin @ May 21st 2008 4:05PM
the title of this article should be "see tekken film stars in costume in premanufactured housing"
GoonieGooGoo @ May 21st 2008 4:11PM
Well....we shall see how this adaptation goes....
The casting looks to match the character at least.
Hey...I had no expectations for DOA...and the adaptation wasn't the worst ever.....it was a fighting game after all. Though some would disagree with me.
Jezreel @ May 21st 2008 4:20PM
I don't know about this -- Cung Le clearly doesn't look Chinese. That's really going to throw me off. I'm not one to believe strictly that a character must be played by an actor of the exact same ethnicity but this is a little tough for me to overlook.
To me, this would be like a movie with a South Italian character played by a Norwegian actor. Not exactly believable.
Noshino @ May 21st 2008 4:30PM
but then again, Law doesn't look chinese at all....WHERE HAVE YOU SEEN A CHINESE GUY WITH EYEBROWS AS THICK AS HIS?!?!
Chase @ May 21st 2008 4:38PM
I love Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa.
t_m @ May 22nd 2008 10:48PM
Is he in this one too?
Geez, you'd think he was the only asian actor in the world.
As long as it doesn't have Russell Wong in it. That guy must be the worst actor since Eric Bana...
fuzzy @ May 21st 2008 4:41PM
I might see this movie just because Cung Le is a badass.
Mr.ESC @ May 21st 2008 5:25PM
o-0
Maverick Saturn @ May 21st 2008 5:44PM
Well, since none of the people we EXPECTED would be in it are there, I guess we knew it would suck. The question is now:
Will it do worse the DOA?
Will it keep up with street fighter and Mortal Kombat?
Brodie-san @ May 21st 2008 6:06PM
Who's playing the Panda?
Sir Fidlious Wong (Justin T. McElroy Memorial Burn of the Day Award) @ May 21st 2008 6:39PM
William Defoe
Mike Sylvester @ May 21st 2008 8:18PM
Bear Grylls
Juan @ May 21st 2008 7:47PM
I dont know another Tekken movie but this time with live people an not like the Tekken: The Motion Picture in 1998 which was an animation movie. i just hope they do a better job.
Deadpool @ May 21st 2008 8:19PM
I rather watch a computer generated Tekken movie. Like the scenes from the game. Oh wait...that makes too much sense so they can't do that.
ILPC @ May 21st 2008 8:44PM
ah, the Tekken anime, or as I like to refer to it, "only he who has the largest eyebrows shall win".
drun @ May 22nd 2008 2:28AM
Cung Le is a fighting champion and Jon Foo is a young stunt actor so at least their skill would match, and both of them look good. I never played Tekken so the cast is fine to me, but the outfit...is that a rubber sash?
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ May 22nd 2008 3:38AM
Great casting with extraordinary fighters, but I have this to say:
Cung Le=> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dL1paOMDtwY
Jonathan Foo=> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eo8HVJ5vNJI
Cung Le's style is kick-boxing oriented (although he has excellent kicks and throws from other martial arts), whereas Jonathan Foo's style is much more kung-fu based.
It'd be more logical if Cung Le starred as Jin Kazama and that Jonathan Foo starred as Marshall Law.
Vailea8-0-1 @ Jun 16th 2008 7:12PM
It should have been Takeshi Kaneshiro playing Jin Kazama. Not John Woo.
