Warriors Orochi ships over 1.5 million, sequel announced
Despite flirting with futuristic racing, it's no secret that Koei's heart has always belonged to cutting swaths through bad guys, keeping their population under control with the mashing of buttons in such series as Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors, or in the case of Warriors Orochi, both at the same time.
Warriors Orochi, which fused both franchises for a crossover fiesta, was released last year for multiple platforms, and according to a statement from Koei this afternoon has shipped more than 1.5 million units worldwide. Granted this simply represents the number of copies the company has thrown on the back of a truck, and not how many that players have actually been taken home and played. Even so, this hasn't stopped Koei from confirming that it also plans to bring Warriors Orochi 2 to North America, giving PS2 and Xbox 360 players another means to sacrifice thumbs and delete evil doers en masse this September.

What?
Gehodra @ May 21st 2008 9:07PM
Hardy bugger. It needs to die. Unless he meant PS3.

It's another form of Dynasty Warriors. Does it surprise anyone that there is going to be a sequel?
tmacairjordan87 @ May 21st 2008 9:11PM
These dynasty warrior games are my guilty pleasure. No matter how repetitve or same old same old each one is I just can't stop playing them. I'm not even sure if I have that much fun in them anymore I just can't stop lol. Oddly enough I hate samurai warriors though.
I've gotten a little better though. I've managed to just rent them now instead of blowing too much money.

Everything you just typed was what I was about to type too.
It is diffenetly a guilty pleasure.
So is the Armored Core series.

The last of these snorefests I tried nearly put me to sleep, they're so simplistic and repetitive.
Gehodra @ May 21st 2008 10:03PM
A snorefest nearly put you to sleep you say?

I know the 360 ports of these PS2 Warrior games are only a mild graphical update, but just curious as to how much?
I've actually enjoyed playing DW4 and SW on the PS2 and Orochi on PSP, may try the sequel on my 360 as a rental.

Everyone takes craps....it's only logical that some people keep buying it.
carg0 @ May 21st 2008 10:05PM
of course they're making a sequel. it's incredibly easy to make games if you're Koei. simply make the same game you made a year prior (in this case, several years ago), slap a new coat of paint each year, add the proceeding number to the title in accordance with the last and see if idiots continue to buy.
easy.

Koei has never made a good game. Prove me wrong. The vast majority of the games they've released are the exact same button mashing trashfest.
Monkeydog @ May 22nd 2008 3:31AM
uhh, Gitaroo Man?
And when did Romance of the Three Kingdoms and the Tactics games become button mashing thrasfests?
J. Santiago @ May 21st 2008 10:46PM
War-ee-urs! Come out and P-laay!
Aeikozz @ May 22nd 2008 12:21AM
orrochi was actually kinda refreshing because it didn't follow the same damn 3 kingdoms story. i am intrested to see what happens in number two
CNash @ May 22nd 2008 7:01AM
Why should it be a "guilty pleasure"? I don't feel guilty about playing the Warriors games - I think they're fun to play, and if anyone says otherwise, well, it's nice that they have a different opinion to me. Otherwise we'd all be sheep, repeatedly bleating out things like "The Warriors series is just a repetitive button masher".
ScottG13 @ May 22nd 2008 8:36AM
I thought it was rediculous that I was loving DW3 and even DW4. I can't believe it is 7 years later and we're still basically playing the same game.
Mullinsmcd @ May 22nd 2008 10:03AM
I actually liked Orochi for the PS2. I would recommend that wholeheartedly over the mild upgrade that is DW6 for the PS3/X360. Orochi 2 looks like around the same game. Pick it up at a bargain bin price when you get bored and you won't be disappointed.

There are al lot of innovations at "Warriors Orochi 2".
