All we know at this point is that the game may get some graphical improvements, it's due in time for the 2008 holiday season and that the port is being headed up by new BioShock creative director Jordan Thomas, a designer on the original. We've heard rumors of it for months and now it seems that the most recent one circulated by 1UP's Quartermann is indeed on the money: BioShock is coming to the PS3. The news will apparently drop in the July issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly.

Guess the rumors are real every now and then. Great thing even if it's coming quite late.

So is 2K tossing PS3 owners a bone, or milking a franchise for all it's worth? :D

The real problem with a game coming out so late is that most of the time all the "SURPRISES" in the game are spoiled. "Teh Internets" have a way of doing those kinds of things.
Heck...I played Metal Gear Solid 2 a week after it came out and it was hard not to hear about Raiden this and WTF no Snake that...

It is a great thing that more people get to play this game - it definitely deserves it.
However I am a bit cynical that this is nothing more than Take Two trying to put something on the horizon to keep up share prices. With no settlement on the EA deal in sight, they're just looking for a stabilizer.
Oh well, let's enjoy this more restrained milking before EA gets their mitts on the franchise. Biioshock Freestyle, anyone?

Isn't Bioshock 2 also (timed?) exclusive for X360?

"the game *may* get some graphical improvements"
Let's hope so.
Multiplatform games with Unreat Engine 3 on PS3 suxx mightily. (as most multiplatform games unfortunately)
No AA , horrible framertate and other graphical cuts.

Hooray, PS3 gets another port of a year-old game. This is reason for great rejoicing.

I know you're just trying to crap on the PS3, but there is a point here. Even good games like BioShock typically disappoint when they come out on a console after having made an appearance elsewhere (including the PC) a year or more before. I guess there's money to be made, but every platform is better served by having up-to-date games than retreads.

Burnout:Paradise was released in that year and is better than BioShock. Hell, it's better than GTA IV in a lot of ways. They didn't give enough exclusive covers or something because they never got the periodicals into a war to see who could give it more 10s faster though.

It's a must play for those that haven't already played it on 360. I loath SP shooters, but this one kept me engrossed from start to finish. Instead of whining about getting it a year later, be glad that some of the great 360 titles are being ported over, and crap games like Tenchu Z aren't.

Second Person Shooters? Somehow, that sounds awesome.

How do those games even compare? A racing game vs a fps with story? I just don't see how you can be secure in that statement. Also, did you play System Shock 2? I loved that game, and though they have a common feel - Bioshock is hardly a copy job of it.

BioShock is not a copy of System Shock 2, just the plot is.
System Shock 2 wasn't a straight shooter, BioShock is.
How can I compare the two games? I just did. The other poster said no better games than BioShock came out between BioShock and GTA IV. He managed to compare all genres to each other, I didn't do any worse.

Again, both of you, Ethan was the first to compare EVERY title between GTA IV and BioShock to each other. I merely compared two.
Go bitch at him. Go bitch at gaming mags that give a single number for games. Go bitch at metacritic.

Well, in all honesty, it seems it's a bitch to get a game originally coded for the 360 running at the same level of competence on the PS3. Hopefully they've been working on this a while on the sly and will have it optimized to the sweet spot that Burnout Paradise and COD4 have it. Now, will it look better? It could, considering there's been an extra year or so development time, and if there's smart guys working on the port they can move on to improvements over and above something that merely replicates the 360 experience.
Anyways, it's great for anyone who wants to play the game on PS3 that it's heading that way. I have a feeling that the film adaptation in the works had a hand in getting the game to the widest audience possible.
The only thing I'd be grudgeful about would be any exclusive content that might not be made available to us 360 people. You can have your graphical enhancements, but I want my extra content!

Well, at least it'll be over a good game for a change. I'm tired of the flame fests over games like Haze, Lair, or Brute Force.

All PS3 owners: BUY THIS GAME!!!
It's every bit as good as you've heard. From the story to the gameplay to the surroundings, the game is a masterpiece.
I wonder if they'll do anything extra for this port. If it's significant, I might even consider a double dip.

The story is ridiculously overrated. The plot isn't bad, having been copied from System Shock 2, but the actual story is nothing special, it's just a collection of racial stereotypes and over-the-top accents.
The art direction is wonderful though, like the core level is beautiful to just stand there and look at. And its very atmospheric.
The gameplay is smooth, but its overreliance on monster closets (culminating in the beehive room) keeps me from putting that at masterpiece level too.

Bioshock was extremely overrated. Gameplay was typical meh FPS, story was pretty weak and predictable, and there's like 4 different splicers the whole game. The endings blew as well and the final boss is beatable in under 2 minutes.
It's a good rental though.

"The story is ridiculously overrated"
I am actually curious if you would kindly supply me with, say, three games in the last year with more underrated or compelling stories? Not trying to be contentious, just like to know what you thought was better.

Portal
Uncharted
Mass Effect
And I only spent 30 seconds on this. I with a little work I could find a lot more.
