Tim Schafer had a baby! (not literally)
We don't know what the title of Game of the Year 2031 is going to be, but we know the lead designer's name: Mary Schafer. How can we be so sure? Well, that's the name of Joystiq Favorite Living Human Tim Schafer's new daughter, born yesterday and sitting comfortably at 7lbs 10oz.
So, why are we suddenly in the baby business? It's not because our icy, black hearts have softened any (they haven't). But think about how big of a deal the announcement of a sequel to any Tim Schafer game would be. Huge, right? Well, we've done one better and announced the sequel to Tim Schafer. Hope Digg is well-stocked with shovels, because we're headed to China.
[Thanks, Danny]

Well this announcement to a sequel to Tim Schafer simply means a longer delay for a sequel to any Tim Schafer game

Have you ever seen the Smash Bros. "Failure" screens?
If I could display images here, you'd be seeing them right now.

"Tim Schafer had a baby! (not literally)"
Well, I'm confused.
LaughingTarget @ May 22nd 2008 12:28PM
It wasn't Tim that carried the baby to term but his wife. However, in Schaefer's twisted world, I wouldn't be surprised if he was the pregnant one.
ChooChooCharlie (MK 0430-8740-2222) @ May 22nd 2008 12:29PM
Because Tim doesn't have a uterus, his wife does.
Sort of like when stupid new-age couples say "we're pregnant" instead of "she's pregnant."
Zertoss @ May 22nd 2008 12:41PM
Well I know he didn't give birth, but I've always heard "had a baby" as something both genders can do. As in "The Schafers just had a baby!" The whole family didn't give birth to the kid, but the family does quite literally have a baby.
Farseer (GDI) @ May 22nd 2008 12:46PM
Of course Tim Schafer can't have a baby.. where's the fetus going to gestate? Is he going to keep it in a box?
Korova @ May 22nd 2008 5:58PM
Farseer
Thank you for the Life of Brian reference.
It is symbolic of his struggle against reality!
Farseer (GDI) @ May 22nd 2008 9:09PM
Thank you - I couldn't pass it up. :)

Great, now get cracking on making a Raz goggle-hat that I can buy, wear and use to jump into a psycho's head.

Good pic, but the baby is missing a second head :)
Kazi @ May 22nd 2008 1:02PM
Damn, doesn't this mean he's going to have less time to dedicate to making games? Hope he raises his child on video games and programming languages. I expect her to speak in C# by the time she starts school.
syrik zero @ May 22nd 2008 1:29PM
That is what I weighted when I was born
Antonio @ May 22nd 2008 2:07PM

If I could give that story a [+], I would.
BTW, Joystiq, how come we cant rate posts, but can rate stories? Do you guys think you are better then us or something?
mss @ May 24th 2008 11:57AM
I think, if you look really closely at the pic on the Doublefine site, that Mary is listed as the mother's name. I don't think he's told the baby's name yet.
Jen @ Jun 3rd 2008 4:42PM
Hmmm...I heard from a reputable source that the baby's name is Lili Bean Clementine.
And little Lili looks sweet with the goggles on.
:D
