Xbox Live size limit upped to 350MB, price limit to 1600 MS points

"We are officially increasing our XBLA game size limits dramatically from 150MB to 350MB," said Whitten in an interview with Next-Gen. He also said the price limit of Xbox Live Arcade games has been raised to 1600 MS points (US $20), which was first seen this week for Penny Arcade Adventures.

The increased size limit is very good news. As when A Boy and His Blob HD Remix comes out, I want every little detail, all the way down to the tiny labels on the jellybeans.

so.. is he admitting that more space equals better games?
isn't that Sonys claims concerning Blu-Ray?
i kid i kid, jeez - relax.

I don't understand why they don't open it up all the way to make way for the digital distribution methods. Xbox classics can be quite large as well as demos. I say if a company wants to release a 1.4GB old school RPG style game with updated graphics for $30, that's all the better.
I don't understand the limits imposed on Xbox Live Arcade.

bu, bu, bu, da core/arcade users!!!!
This is good move for MS. I bought Warhawk off PSN, and LOVE that my lazy ass doesnt need to go to the entertainment center and rifle through my games when I need it. It just sits there, on the HDD.
I think Ms needs to realize that they are going to be in serious trouble if the continue to try to make sure they dont leave behind the few (core/arcae users) to the detriment of the masses

Now bring down the fucking price for the 120gb hard drive? $180!? FUCK THAT!
And maybe bring some more HDD options besides just a puny 20gb and very expensive 120gb. How about a middle of the road 60 or 80gb?
God, if only you made the HDD replaceable like the PS3.

God, remember when the limit was 50 MB for the longest time?

Wow, I didn't even realize there was a monetary limit on XLBA games.... what's up with that? That's like saying "don't bother to make any GOOD games for XBLA, because we won't let you charge enough to make up for your costs".
shawn @ May 22nd 2008 7:31PM
i could never understand why microsoft charges so much for the xbox hard drives seeing a pc hard drive is so much cheaper

Since the 360 uses 2.5" SATA laptop hard drives, can someone tell me why nobody so far has cracked the case, put in their own hard drive and it works? Is there some Microsoft DRM or what?
ScottyGEE @ May 22nd 2008 8:54PM
It is possible to a degree. You can trick the xbox into thinking the hdd is 120gb or 20gb. So really, buy a 120gb laptop HDD and then use the modding software to sign it and place all the files needed.
PhydeWice @ May 23rd 2008 12:42AM
Won't you get banned from Live for doing that, though?
Farseer (GDI) @ May 23rd 2008 9:21AM
What about the proprietary HD connector, though? Is there a SATA adapter in the HD case, or is the drive designed with the propietary connector in mind?
Ahmedz @ May 22nd 2008 6:39PM
wait.....does that mean SS2THDR is gonna cost $20?!?!
overflow @ May 22nd 2008 7:46PM
am i the only person who thinks that the price upping is funny. why cant the producer set the price. i would understand it somehow if it was mb wise 1 mb costs 10 mspoints(or whatever dunno how the currency works) so a mini 20 mb game wouldnt cost as a 350 mb game(they maybe could justify it with the bandwith cost (which would ridicilous imo but a acceptable lie)). so you have somehow to make games "worth" of 20$ which isnt such a low price. so no mini games for 5$ or 10$ that are fun for a couple of days like audiosurf. i think Steam shows how it has to be done(ok they have some issues too but the overall is almost perfect)
