Capcom considering Marvel-esque movie deals
Following the Cannes Film Festival this past week, Bloomberg Japan is reporting that Capcom might be looking to capitalize on its hottest video game properties through various film deals. The strategy, according to Bloomberg, would closely resemble one struck by Marvel Comics years ago, where movie studios sign off on various properties, such as the already-established Resident Evil series, and potential silver-screen newcomer Devil May Cry.
Capcom reportedly was approached by several movie studios to license out their properties. According to Capcom president Haruhiro Tsujimoto, the company hopes to announce more concrete plans in the near future. Mega Man, anyone? Here's hoping.

A Lost Planet movie might be quite good.
Maverick Saturn @ May 23rd 2008 8:36PM
Yeah, if done right, otherwise it will just be another alien movie ¬_¬
RE with aliens instead of Zombies, lol
GreyFox @ May 24th 2008 2:20AM
Done right is the key word. Remember this is the same Capcom who ok'd those fucking shitty Resident Evil movies.
Maverick Saturn @ May 23rd 2008 8:33PM
Noooo! Don't do DMC unless you do it right, please hire me to manage, I just can't watch a plot with so much potential go down the drain in a crap movie, I just can't :(
Anyone seen the DMC anime series, gives a small insight as to how good the movie could be.
Demaar @ May 23rd 2008 9:25PM
DMC would be hilarious no matter who they got for the job.
t_m @ May 24th 2008 10:54AM
DMC has a plot?

How about a GOOD Resident Evil movie? George A. Romero's script for the first one was passed in favor of the shit sandwich that they gave us. Why would they pass a good script by the man who is responsible for the best zombie movie of all time (Dawn of the Dead) for Paul W. Anderson? That is a question humanity may never know the answer to.
Maverick Saturn @ May 23rd 2008 8:36PM
Too many zombie movies as it is, zombies are getting boring, thats why Alice became a Super Saiyen :)
voodoo_craig @ May 23rd 2008 8:41PM
I actually prefer the Snyder DOTD, it just had something about it.....probably Ving Rhames.
Anyway, I agree the Romero Res Evil would be good, for anyone interested you can read the script here-

Yeah I'm with Maverick on this one. There a have been a tonne of zombie movies this decade, and all bar one has been lackluster at best.
...
You've got red on you.
Maverick Saturn @ May 23rd 2008 9:04PM
The only thing LIKE a zombie flick that has been great was 28 days and weeks, they were incredible, fullstop, but then again, it was an infection, not a zombie flick.
Zombie films suck :( lol
DWells55 @ May 23rd 2008 10:48PM
Shaun of the Dead was a zombie movie and that was freakin' awesome.
Maverick Saturn @ May 24th 2008 4:32AM
Okay, that is an exception, I agree, recently tho I've found British, Japanese and French horror to be....well, more interesting to watch, I can't take a lot of American horror seriously, they start, end and operate too cliche, so it ends up looking something like land of the dead or prom night, god they were terrible movies....
Thats just the horror genre though, I love other genres over there :)
t_m @ May 24th 2008 10:57AM
Land of the Dead rocked. Diary of the Dead is getting great reviews too.
(I didn't mind the DotD remake, but its only really better because its newer and matches modern cinematic style more).
I also kinda like asian horror movies, but they have been majorly suffering from a lack of originality for the last few years.
DangerMouse @ May 23rd 2008 8:36PM
Keanu Reeves as Dante. A wooden actor plus a ridiculous script would be perfect. Chances are, it will be one of the most accurate video game adaption ever.
"Dude, I'm collecting orbs to open the doooooooooor"
Maverick Saturn @ May 23rd 2008 8:41PM
Otherwise known as Constantine 2 ¬_¬
carg0 @ May 23rd 2008 8:39PM
those f*ing morons at Capcom should've thought about that BEFORE they allowed one their most coveted properties to be trashed and embarrassed by hollywood...
DangerMouse @ May 23rd 2008 8:40PM
street fighter or RE?
Maverick Saturn @ May 23rd 2008 8:41PM
Both
Snatcher (MDF - Halo Ring) @ May 25th 2008 1:50AM
I dont care what you guys say. I think the Resident Evil movies were great. They are action/horror movies. Do you really want to see a movie set in a big mansion in which zombie dogs mysteriously jump out of windows and you can simply jog by the zombies while you look for more handgun ammo??
emirabal @ May 25th 2008 12:24AM
Mega MAN????? HELL NO!!!, no as a movie. Dvil May Cry, yes, what about Street Fighter, that would be awesome.
How about bringing the resident evil movies to video games
CJLopez @ May 23rd 2008 9:38PM
Hey, I do remeber that a Megaman movie was announced, and guess whi was starring???
VIN DIESEL!!!!

"The ``Resident Evil'' zombie-shooter series, known in Japan as ``Biohazard,'' has already been made into a film trilogy in Hollywood. The third movie in the series, released in September last year, helped the company sell more than a million copies of the game software introduced two months later for Nintendo Co.'s Wii console, Tsujimoto said."
Being a little picky here but what a load of horseshit. Fair enough that these guys seemingly want to make themselves look ridiculous by creating more awful movies based on beloved games but to claim that the third Resident Evil film helped sales of the Wii RE4 in any meaningful way is just plain stupid. I seriously hope that the President of Capcom doesn't truly believe that. RE4 sold well because it was i)the best version of ii)one of the best games ever, was iii)inexpensive and iv)released on a console starved for good software at the time.
It had nothing to do with what was easily one of the worst movies I have seen in the last year (and I saw Indiana Jones last night so that's saying something.)
ComradeTrotskii @ May 23rd 2008 9:49PM
just testing italics here, if this doesn't work could somebody tell me how to do it. Cheers.

Morrgan...live action....need I say more?
Blue_Falcon @ May 23rd 2008 10:50PM
They should be considering a Marvel-esque crossover game with their characters.
I think we all could benefit better from something like that.
Ridgecity @ May 23rd 2008 11:01PM
so what were they doing? they weren't doing this already?
Batzarro(A.K.A Rap-Rock Cameo) @ May 24th 2008 12:06AM
Yeah. They just doing MOAR of it.
Maverick Saturn @ May 24th 2008 4:37AM
I don't think they should follow Mrvel either, most Marvel films have been rather terrible or average at best.
Spiderman was good till 3, Xmen was good all round, iron was average, punisher was just laughable and so was daredevil, hulk was stupid, elekta, was a waste of time and effort...really, Marvel movies have dissopointed, not to mention they all have gay storylines...man caught in explosing, becomes hero, man bitten by robot spider, becomes hero, man blinded at birth, becomes hero, whaaaaa?
Maverick Saturn @ May 24th 2008 4:38AM
I was stung by a bee before, how come I'm not the superhero...
BUZZMAN!!!
t_m @ May 24th 2008 11:09AM
Do capcom have any good, movie-worthy licenses left? I can't think of any off the top of my head.
A King of Fighters movie would rock, just to see the jiggle on Mai. But i think that was SNK...
ANd I guess a Onimusha 3 movie might be interesting, cos at least we wouldn't have to worry about them miscasting the leads...
Batzarro(A.K.A Rap-Rock Cameo) @ May 24th 2008 4:20PM
Viewtifull Joe
Final Fight
Megaman
Darkstalkers
Bionic Commando
Magical Disney Tetris Challenge

so that's a no?
VJ and FF rocked, but I really can't see any of those making a good movie.
I think marvel have a pretty big advantage in terms of movie-worthy properties.

DARKSTALKERS MOVIE FOR MORTAL KOMBAT PRODUCERS.
Capcom should get into talks with Larry Kasanoff's Threshold Entertainment on bringing the rights to Darkstalkers series into a feature films and TV series, this is the best idea that I had in mind you guys don't have to like my theads thats fine.
Threshold should get Darkstalkers movie in the future.
Thank you.
