Final Fantasy IV trailer gets English subtitles
We here at Joystiq HQ are, as you might imagine, savvy world travelers, and therefore have a vast knowledge of the languages of many countries. Swedish, Italian, Esperanto -- one of us (we shall not reveal who) is even fluent in Klingon. Unfortunately, Japanese is one of our weaker subjects, thus a majority of the promotional material for Squeenix and Matrix Software's (the guys who made the DS remake of FFIII) recreation of the 1991 SNES role-playing classic Final Fantasy II (or IV, for purists) has largely gone over our heads.
Luckily for us, this astonishing trailer created from promotional footage already released in Japan comes with English subtitles -- not that words would be required to appreciate the visuals featured in this preview. Regardless of whether those CGI cutscenes make their way into the handheld package, the game's 3D models look fantastic, filling us with unbridled desire for some old-school crystal hunting. July 22 can not come soon enough.

I liked it better when it wasn't all Japanimationish.
t_m @ May 25th 2008 9:30AM
wasn't it always?
MasterInsan0 @ May 24th 2008 5:02PM
Yes. Very much yes. FFIV is one of my top 3 FF games, so...yeah. I'm pretty excited. I hope they make it to FFVI though--it's number 1 on my list.

I've tried the GBA remake 3 times now, and I never got much past Mt. Holts. A corridor with dozens of random battles is really NOT my idea of fun.
Shame, cos the story and everything else was fun... i just wish there was a way to skip all the pointless battles...
WiiFTW @ May 24th 2008 5:18PM
Awesomeness...This comes out in the summer, no?
WiiFTW @ May 24th 2008 5:19PM
Oops didn't read the article:P
Lard @ May 24th 2008 6:19PM
Yay! *Another* completely pointless remake a game people have played ten times already!
Who needs new content when we can just buy the same crap over and over?
Go Squeenix!

Downvotes! Attack!

The attack is Supereffective.

He has too many potions!
A Pissed-off English Gamer @ May 25th 2008 10:13AM
Oh please, this guy makes a valid point. It's not exactly respectable practice to cash-in on people's nostalgia by remaking games instead of making originals.
That said, though, i'm totally getting.
Wyvernlink @ May 24th 2008 6:37PM
Looks good but I played it on the game boy advance.
jboy @ May 24th 2008 7:19PM
So 2007 in Japanesse script means 2008 in English?
O_o @ May 24th 2008 7:16PM
holy shiiiiiiit... this game looks off the hooookk!! so tragic, so touching, i'm definitely going to buy my THIRD copy of FFIV!
mr nimblewick @ May 24th 2008 7:16PM
I would be more excited if I didn't *hate* the FFIII remake.
Fatass of Sarcasmness @ May 24th 2008 9:18PM
FFIV definitely beats FFIII in the story department, though, and probably won't feel as archaic as the FFIII remake did when it hits retail.
cantbeatmegaman @ May 24th 2008 8:21PM
All I need next are FFVI and Chrono Trigger remakes.
A Pissed-off English Gamer @ May 25th 2008 10:15AM
It would be nice if Chrono Trigger actually had some kind of release in Europe. :-(
Matthew Moore @ May 25th 2008 12:01AM
I am excited, but I hope it has a better save system. I stopped playing FF3 because the save system was just too poorly executed and I had to fight through the same dungeons too many times.
Jamie @ May 25th 2008 4:44AM
Am I the only one who found the HUGE gap in quality between the CGI and game renders funny as hell?
Darcrequiem @ May 25th 2008 10:16PM
Final Fantasy VII and its Popeye arms say hello.
Freelance @ May 25th 2008 10:26AM
There is some pretty amazing stuff happening on those tiny little cartridges.
Meko @ May 25th 2008 3:53PM
Exactly.. you realize this is a DS game, right?
FinalDragoon @ May 25th 2008 5:38PM
So, we can get this, but not Tales of Innocence?
campocaceres @ May 26th 2008 8:07AM
Having just played through the GBA version a couple of weeks back, I must say: Despite the upgrade in graphics and sound... all of those parts really LOST the drama they had before. I'll still play it through almost on principal, but I have a feeling I'm going to be very disappointed..
