Gamestop sponsors driver in NASCAR Nationwide Series
Fans of high speed circular driving and pre-owned video games will be pleased to see a familiar sight at the NASCAR Nationwide Series at the Dover International Speedway on May 31 -- a Gamestop sponsored stock car, driven by the fresh faced Joey Logano. Gamestop debuted the young driver to the racing world today by celebrating Logano's eighteenth birthday (the required age for NASCAR drivers), and presented the new adult with an Xbox 360 and an advance copy of NASCAR '09 (for training purposes, we assume).
We don't anticipate Logano to set any records at his debut race -- apparently, his pit crew has been instructed to ask if he'd like to exchange his old tires for trade-in credit at every stop, then ask if he wants the one-year warranties on his new tires, and finally, if he'd like to reserve additional tires for any upcoming pit stops.

Oh ho ho! I can't wait for that car to crash and burn!
j.howlett @ May 24th 2008 10:25PM

j.howlett @ May 24th 2008 10:35PM

bigsofty @ May 25th 2008 7:42AM
Zzzzz... by everyone who does not like cars going around in circles for hours on end...
Wesley Johnson @ May 25th 2008 10:32AM
to celebrate xbox 360 they should turn the track into a red ring.
FrankTheCrank @ May 31st 2008 12:20PM
I hope he got the extended warranty with that XBOX 360.
He's going to need it.
Quentin @ May 24th 2008 10:26PM
The Nationwide series is like the minors of NASCAR, right? So Gamestop won't that much exposure since the Nextel/Sprint/whatever cup is the big deal.
Kira @ May 25th 2008 9:07AM
I happen to recognize two of the people in the photo and that is the District Manager of the Lowe's Motor Speedway area. The entire area within a thirty mile radius of that speedway is consistently at a dead stop in traffic on race days, so even though it may be the minors, that area is Nascar country, and even that advertising is a big deal.
wickedneoq @ May 24th 2008 10:49PM
Considering Denny Hamlin rough-housed his way to a 2nd place finish in that exact car, minus GameStop advertising, I'd say Logano has some deep shoes to fill taking over the 20.
Mikeawesome @ May 24th 2008 10:51PM
What they didn't tell you was that to get to the next circuit you have to pre-order the first race.
Don't worry, though, you'll get a free keychain as a bonus, though!

$11/hour to manage? Just turn them all into giant walk in vending machines
Nihilat @ May 24th 2008 10:53PM
Sons of bitches should pay us better wages instead of buying a damn stock car.

welcome to capitalism, how can I exploit you next?
Anthony @ May 25th 2008 1:15AM
Well the idea is to win, and when you do you make money ;)
NoHitHair @ May 25th 2008 1:21PM
Before the merger:
-Used to get commission on warranties, subs and a bunch of other stuff.
-Assistant managers always started out at a minimum of $11/hr, not the BS they're given now.
-Corporate wasn't a bunch of pandering assholes looking to penny pinch as much profit as possible from their stores.
-Employees didn't have scripts to follow, we simply used our salesmanship to sell.
-Trade in prices used to be less of a screw job.
I worked at an EBGames for 3 1/2 years - it used to be a pretty great place to work.

This article made me laugh, a lot. Well-done.
EihBeir @ May 24th 2008 11:16PM
Will he be asked if he wants the strategy guide that goes with the four fresh tires for 20% off?
NoHitHair @ May 25th 2008 1:22PM
Only if he gets the guide with them. If he comes back to buy it, he'll have to pay full price.
But if he subscribes now he can get 10% off any used tires he purchases in the future.
gamerprophet @ May 24th 2008 11:28PM
I see 360 wins for the car :p

It's about time NASCAR made the "right" move.
wickedneoq @ May 25th 2008 1:00AM
They only make the "right" moves when they go to the following places: Mexico City, Montreal, Sonoma, and Watkins Glen.
Mike @ May 25th 2008 1:09AM
OHH no not the ELITE VERSION dont leave it on while ur racing those 500 laps lollolol
Mike @ May 25th 2008 1:09AM
if he crashes were never ganna hear the end of red ring of death jokes
ssuk @ May 25th 2008 10:03AM
They'll put it down to dust.
Double J @ May 25th 2008 1:14AM
Logano's team will probably be fined and his pit chief suspended when they find they swapped out their Restrictor plate with a cell processor. You can't wreck when you're in the 4th dimension.
Yes, I know that's now how it works, dicks.
J.Goodwin @ May 25th 2008 1:27AM
Your trade dollars at work.
Gamestop is your class enemy, support your local independent games retailer.
BIGGEN (LIVE-PSN: BIGGEN1103) @ May 25th 2008 4:54PM
my games "retailer" is ebay. i'll gladly ebay today for a getting a game on tuesday.
Taylor @ May 27th 2008 2:00PM
Well, for people that actually follow NASCAR, the kid is supposed to be really damn good.
Tarvus Domicus @ May 25th 2008 9:03AM
NASCAR isn't a sport, just a bunch of hicks too stupid to realize they're driving in circles, toting logos for major corporations all the while. Puppets. A race is from point A to point B. Not point A to point A to point A to point A to point A to point A to point A to point A to point A (repeat hundreds of times).
Kspraydad @ May 25th 2008 12:23PM
So 400+ meter track and field events, swimming events and most motorsports are all for hicks?
Next time I shave my body I'll remember who I'm doing it for then.
Donnie @ May 27th 2008 2:40PM
Wow that was ignorant. So only Baja and rally is actual racing. Thanks for clarifying that for me...
Idiot
paul pippin @ May 25th 2008 11:59AM
