Mötley Crüe single downloaded on Rock Band five times more than on iTunes
We've heard tell of the incredible success Harmonix has seen with their weekly downloadable tracks for Rock Band. Often, their sales numbers are matched up against those of Guitar Hero III, where tracks are more seldom, but also sell like diamond-encrusted hotcakes. As enjoyable as these track packs are, we've yet to see any comparison between them and actual music retailers, digital or otherwise -- that is, until Mötley Crüe's new single simultaneously rocked the faces off of music downloaders and DLC collectors alike.
The song, "Saints of Los Angeles", came from the glam-band's upcoming album, and dropped onto iTunes, Zune, Amazon, and the Xbox 360 version of Rock Band on April 15. In it's first week of availability, digital distributors sold 10,000 copies of the single, but dedicated faux-rockers downloaded 47,000 copies of the track from the 360 Rock Band Music Store, according to Reuters. Could this inspire more record labels to debut new albums and singles on Harmonix's golden goose title? We certainly hope so.

Is that a real picture of Motley Crue? Wow they're like totally gay looking.
Which one is Tommy Lee?

He's the one with the long hair and eye-liner.

JK. No, I'm *pretty sure* he's the one on the left.

Someone must not ever have heard of the 80s

yep you can walk around and act/dress like preps or fake professors...
Malls in the 80s were the true mecca of freak-ocity

Honestly, I think it's got a bit more to do with the fact that theres millions of tracks on iTunes and how many tracks available for Rock Band? People are just hungry for content - if the entire iTunes library (well, the non-modern type stuff that doesn't fit with the Rock Band theme anyways) were converted and sold on the Rock Band store tomorrow most of those tracks wouldn't sell half as well, and not just because people aren't going to buy tens of thousands of dollars worth of music in one sitting.
Sora267 @ May 24th 2008 7:06PM
iTunes usually has new singles on the store's main menu in more than one place (New releases, and they're usually in the top 10 songs), so it's not like people have to go digging around on iTunes.

The fact that there are fewer tracks to pick from on Rock Band is completely, totally dwarfed by the fact that Itunes has millions more users than Rock Band in the first place.
Demaar @ May 24th 2008 8:48PM
Actually, I checked out a Youtube vid of the song being played, thought it looked like fun and sounded surprisingly good.
Also the pricing was just right, too. Got Rock Rebellion as well (which I was on the fence about getting prior).

You're missing the point. This proves that Rack Band DLC is a good form of alternate revenue for bands. Now its not just something that is cool to do, but its a smart business move.

Imagine what would happen if they put any Motley Crue songs that people CARE about! You know what I mean... Like, OLD ones? Classics is what we want, Harmonix. Make it happen.
Kizzle @ May 24th 2008 8:31PM
The song actually isn't bad considering it's post-80's Motley Crue. They've released some really awful crap since Dr. Feelgood...SOLA isn't bad.
Shagittarius @ May 24th 2008 8:34PM
Its pretty much just a reworking of Wildside.
Kizzle @ May 24th 2008 10:11PM
...every Motley Crue song is practically a reworking of a previous one. This one was just better than most of the others.
Howard-the-Duck @ May 24th 2008 9:09PM
When the fuck are we getting Kickstart My Heart?
Kizzle @ May 24th 2008 10:16PM
When the fuck are we getting Girls, Girls, Girls?
B3astofthe3ast @ May 24th 2008 10:47PM
Wow, and this isn't even counting PSN in there as well. Believe it or not, there are lots of people that own Rock Band on PS3, and DL songs as well.
Ryan @ May 24th 2008 10:50PM
What is this PS3 you speak of?
Ian Murray @ May 24th 2008 11:31PM
I think iTunes is awesome and I use it every day...but seriously...take that.
Tim Robertson @ May 24th 2008 11:37PM
Could it be that, while the song may be fun to pretend to play, it actually SUCKS to listen to? I was a HUGE Crew fan back in the 80s, actually saw them many times in concert (yes, that is Tommy on the left) but this song really blows. Sorry, it does.
ScallionN @ May 25th 2008 2:44AM
I'd love to see more singles dropped on Rock Band's DLC.
That is, if they're better than that Motley Crue (metal umlauts be damned)track.
Jayslacks @ May 25th 2008 10:01AM
Is this a new chick band or something?
Me @ May 25th 2008 11:33AM
More like the Lipstick Crew.
SecondTomorrow @ May 25th 2008 12:33PM
I actually like the new Crue stuff for some reason. But good god, Mick Mars scars the shit out of me...he wants my soul.

What does monty python have anything to do with it? Maybe the cross dressing? Wow, you got me thinking by using only 3 letters. +1
