EGM rumor-monger Quartermann has once more turned the spotlight on speculation that we've been hearing for ages that Rare is keen on developing a third entry in its combo-heavy fighting game franchise Killer Instinct. Never mind that Rare itself has denied such rumors in the past, because honestly that's exactly what we'd say if we were working on a top secret project too.
Going by the mouthful Killer Instinct 3D: Death, Destruction and Doom, the rumored Xbox 360 fighter is said to axe the previous titles' rendered graphics and button mashing in favor of 3D visuals and more robust gameplay. Still, it remains to be seen if this latest attempt rekindle interest in Killer Instinct will pan out, or if once again it will do an Ultra Combo to our heart.

You want the SNES version? God, why?!? Just because the package said it was a perfect arcade port doesn't make it so.

Id really rahter see some of the "good games" rare did instead of these.
And more fighers that go in a diferent route than the "combo masher",i like smashbros because its a diferent style.
Soemone that didnt like SF,didnt like MC simply wont care enough about most fighers that keep playing under that old setup, yeesh most genres have spread out in styles and progresed but fightans are still stuck in the 90s.

Most of the "good games" Rare did use properties Nintendo owns and thus will never appear on a MS platform.

Man this game seriously needs to comeback with the exact same combo system. And for God's sake, Use the same voice for the Combos!!!! My Favorite:
KiiiiIIIIIIIING Combo!
Humiliations rocked! Plus the Combo system is seriously only with those with the purest of skillz. I got a buddy who remembers everything in that game from 15 years ago!!!!! Kinda like me and SFII.

How about Remakes of BattleToads(Tradewest)or Wizards and warriors(acclaim) Remakes. Rare doesn't own these properties but could probably acquire them. BattleToads is owned by midway now and they are not doing so well financially and Acclaim might be looking for some money since they got restarted a couple years ago. Anyways These would be two games perfect for a comeback. ESPECIALLY BATTLETOADS!!!

You know, i wonder if they will. I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo will take some of the profits, considering as they never capitalized on the series way back when they could've.
I played the SNES version at a friend's house, but i don't recall ever seeing the game in the arcades.

I used to play this like 11-13 years ago at Tornado Terrys. This is my favorite fighting series ever. There was this one kid who played there, I think his name was Chav or Chaviz or something who would beat just about everyone. If you beat him, it was a rare thing (no pun). He got kicked out of the place for huffing spray paint in the back corner of the arcade and everyone loved it because no one dominated. :)

I remember when I bought the SNES bundle package with the Killer Cuts cd, I still have the game and cd. I played this game day and night when I was young. I remember I could do a 115+ combo with orchid.

KI was one of my favorite fighters back in the day but it really hasn't aged well.
It was really a game to show that the SNES still had life left to fight the 32 bit consoles.
My favs:
Samurai Showdown II
X-Men VS Streetfighter
Marvel VS Capcom
Soul Edge (Better than SoulCaliber IMO)
SFII Turbo Championship Edition
I really hated Mortal Kombat because there was always some 11 year old prick at the arcade who memorized every glitch and move who could always kick your ass.

Awesome. I had a SNES bundle: Killer Instinct, and although I sucked complete balls, the soundtrack is worth getting my butt whooped by bad AI every day.

Ahh-- Screw Killer Instinct, that lame Mortal Kombat clone, and bring back TIME KILLERS, complete with decapitations, limb-severing, armless and limbless victories, and wicked sense of humor.

Has anyone even read the fine print on this?? YES, KI needs to be done, but if they make it into a Soul Caliber/ Virtua Fighter game then it will SUCK BIG TIME!!! We need an updated version of this game and for it to be left in-tact!!!
A few upgrades to make the combo system better is OK, but to change the face of the game would be a HUGE mistake!!

I agree. I still think the original Arcade KI was the best...The SNES version was good, for the time, but it hasn't aged well. The Arcade one still stands up a bit. The combo system has yet to be matched (as cheap as some are, oh well), and it just had an attitude and sense of humor that seems to be lost to gaming now.
I had made it a point to buy a JAMMA Supergun and the Arcade board for KI, but never got to it. Earlier this year, I picked up an XBOX 360 Hori arcade stick for $30 at Gamestop (thanks CAG!), and was able to get the PC emulator and ROM running at about 98% and controlling perfect with the Hori stick via USB...even the codes for Eyedol and such work! Ahh, the memories...
