Gears of War re-release in June, cheaper and with map DLC

In an effort to milk the Gears of War teat for all its worth (mental picture), this Summer Microsoft is set to release a new edition of the original Gears of War that'll come packed with all previous released DLC and a cheaper price tag too.

According to Gamestop's pre-order listing for the title, the new edition of Gears of War will cost $39.99 and feature what we presume to be the Hidden Fronts and Discovery channel sponsored DLC. And just to make sure we're on the same page, we highly doubt this re-release will feature any of the Gears PC content seeing that Epic has made it more than clear (on numerous occasions) that bringing the content to the 360 is nigh impossible. So, if you have yet to experience curb-stomping and Locust dismemberment, we think June 24th would be the perfect time to "jump in" with chainsaws a revving.

Hmm... That DLC is free, right? If the original game goes down to $29.99 or something because of this, then wouldn't that be the better deal?

It’s not nigh impossible, I used to bullseye womprats in my T-16 back home. They're not much bigger than two meters either. And they don't have frickin chainsaw guns.

It doesn't seem like a good deal. Maps should all be free anyways because the new game coming in November.

Yes all the maps are currently free. I personally don't see any benefit to buying this "new" version. Its pretty much for people who don't already own Gears. Its a shame.. I mean you'd think they could throw a few new multiplayer maps on there to sweeten the deal but that doesn't seem to be the case.

What? Why not give us the extra levels that the pc version got?

Because the PC version runs on a slightly upgraded version of the Unreal Engine and the encounters in those levels make use it it. From what i read of a old interview with CliffyB, its not a simple matter of porting it to 360, which would be impossible. They'd have to recreate it entirely using the older engine on 360. Obviously, it would take a lot of effort/time and resources of their studio and its not worth the effort when they can focus on making Gears of War 2.

The game is going to be lowered to $39.99, from $59.99.

It will also include the multiplayer maps. It is a better deal.

Totally pointless.

Not worth a look unless your a newcomer to Gears.

If you don't have a harddrive, which many xbox owners do not, then this would be beneficial. It makes sense in the long term. Not to mention it saves Microsoft's bandwidth.

Never thought of it like that. I still find it odd that the xbox original had a hdd and the new one it is optional. I don't know. Hopefully, the next next gen will all have HDD. I get the point of upgrading HDDs, but come on, not having them standard is retarded.

Yes, it is. And it means all games must be developed to support non-harddrive systems. GTA4? No install like the PS3 because of that requirement. It's really stupid and everyone who buys a non-HD system regrets it.

It's really just a good idea to bundle the DLC on the disc for the long term. they will stop selling the old version of the disc and anyone who buys it from now on will have all the content without the hassle of downloading it.

This might not work if you don't have a HDD; anyone have the GOTY edition of Oblivion? The disk with the content on for that just puts said content onto your HDD, same as downloading it.

Wait, there are people that own 360's and still haven't played Gears? Heresy!

Well I just go a 360... so I'm one of those people! Unfortunately, I got Gears with the 360, so I got hosed with the "wrong" version of Gears...

They should add one or two colors to the game while they are at it.

Still haven't played Gears yet. But I think buying it off ebay would be a better deal.
