The eleven-minute Automatic Mario masterpiece
67
It's been months since the e-fad of creating automated levels in Super Mario World to the tune of popular Anime soundtracks surfaced -- normally, that's much longer than the lifespan of most internet memes. However, this post-mortem contribution to the Mario-on-rails movement caught our attention (as well as the collective attention of Digg-dwellers) largely due to the fact that "months" is the amount of time the architect of the above masterwork needed to really hone his craft.
The above eleven-minute long video, set to a remixed hodge-podge of Anime songs (feel free to flaunt your knowledge of Anime theme music in the comments), is absolutely incredible. Not only do Mario's predetermined movements match up perfectly to the music, the sound effects are often pitch perfect to the background track. It's difficult to explain -- we suggest you watch it to fully comprehend, then spend the rest of the day wondering if all those Journey covers you made on Mario Paint are still as breathtaking as you once thought.

You guys kind of missed the boat on this one... Kotaku and Digg had it like 2 weeks ago and it found its way onto Digg again this weekend
Still a great piece of work though.

Yeah, this video is now older than the internet, but atleast people that don't read anything but Joystiq can now see it.
Really a work of art, even if I don't care for the song =P

Actually I didn't know about this video because I find Kotaku f*cking gay and Digg is not relevant to my interests most of the time.

Generally, I only peruse Joystiq for my gaming information. So this video was new to me.
And it was amazing. I mean, really amazing.

Wow. "Most probably"? of course we can't prove it exactly, I'd say the sun's been there quite a bit before the earth was giving the fact that we're stuck in its orbit and all.

If I could sit through 11 minutes of this abominable music, I'm sure I'd be impressed.

I noticed a piece from Wily's castle, Megaman 2, around the middle or so, and I could swear there was some original Final fantasy going near the end.

Not only that, but a few of those are Volcaloid versions to boot.
Personally, the only ones I caught were Hare Hare Yukai, Gong, Makka na Chikai, Uninstall, and God Knows, and Motteke! Sailorfuku. And that damn Tsurupettan song, and of course the leekspin soundtrack whose actual name I can never recall.
Ah, Nicovideo. How many hours of my life have you wasted?

There's a few things you might be missing:
Yes, these are Anime (and a few dating sims, I believe) songs, however, they are not the original songs, instead they are being sung by a group of random people from the NicoVideo.jp website -- which is something like a cross between Youtube and 4chan in Japan (so, Youtube and 2chan). Can you imagine a bunch of /b/tards getting together and singing a Weird Al Polka or something? And doing it WELL?
However, the really cool thing about the original MP3 (at least to me) is one of the people singing isn't even real. It's Vocaloid, a program that simulates singing voices. There are even several emulated versions of real life singers.

There are a ton of remade Anime openings and stuff using Vocaloid singers, just do a Youtube Search for the term. :)

Wow those are some serious l33t programming skills. Too bad I don’t watch anime yet I recognize the Haruki theme because is one of the most viewed videos in youtube and is a very catchy song as well too bad the cartoon itself is lame.

They aren't leet programming skills, it's called a few custom blocks inserted (A velocity increaser, a force jump) and then just alot of time on their hands in Lunar Magic.
Also, I am saddened by this post Joystiq. Not by the fact that it is pretty old now, but only about half of the songs are Anime, the others are japanese internet songs like the one from Touhou and . Did you even watch it? You would have noticed at least Okkusenman (Megaman 2 Wily Fortress mix) or the Beware The Forest's Mushrooms from SMRPG...

Actually I kind of stop it after the 2 minute mark and fast forward the video and I just heard the Anime songs. I don't feel like watching the whole video just for a remix of 2 songs.
Again is impressive but I have to ask then if this isn't programming that means there is a SMW level editor like in Megaman Powered up! That someone created or what? I have to say ignore how he or she created this. I thought it created everything from the ground, if he/she used an existent program then the video is not so great.
Also I just trying to show some appreciation for this I mean the poor guy had to sit thought hours to make this and if that wasn't punishment enough he had to hear lots of anime songs. The least we can do is say "Hey that was cool, I’ll putt this in my favorites “and then proceed searching for illegally uploaded videos of family guy in youtube.

This ain't the original video. I saw the same one split into two parts and there was absolutely no singing. This one is horrible compared to the Techno/Anime/Game music original. Some incredible editing work with the crap singing though, even though it sounds horrible someone actually took the time to match the entire thing.

Too bad most of the songs are just terrible JPOP music. I would be more impressed if the Japanese actually used, you know, good music.
