Brett Ratner to make game-based movies
You may have noticed Guitar Hero popping up in some unexpected places, like last week's American Idol finale or in the new Mariah Carey video "Touch My Body." What may come as a surprise is who you have to thank for the product placement: None other than Brett Ratner, responsible for the epic Rush Hour trilogy and for murdering the X-Men franchise. Ratner's new branding company has tasked itself with melding popular culture and marketing.Ratner's gaming connections won't end with plastic guitars though: The director says he'll "be doing movies that come from videogames," specifically citing his access to the Activision brain trust. We've already begun hoping for Call of Duty while fully expecting Soldier of Fortune: Payback.

Whats the chances of a Wii Fit movie and Guitar Hero movie seeing as everyone is making game movies these days. Its inevitable ¬_¬
samfish @ May 27th 2008 11:42AM
I want someone to make a Wii Fit porno movie with the trainers having sex.
...while Mii's run past and cheer you on.
Male Trainer: "I'll help you work out those tongue muscles"
Femail Trainer: "mmm- Wow, your Wii is DEFINITELY fit! Let me help you stretch it before the real workout begins!"
Now THAT would be a movie worth seeing!
Maverick Saturn @ May 27th 2008 11:56AM
Alterantively they could just put Angelina Jolie in her gym outfit and get her to do some exersize on the Wiifit, thar ya go, theres ur epic movie :)
BananaBoat @ May 27th 2008 4:05PM
Here's hoping that he DOESN'T get to ruin the Call of Duty franchise.
BananaBoat @ May 27th 2008 4:15PM
Samfish -
I'm sure it's been done in Japan. I'd be willing to bet money on it.
"MOTOOOOOOO, MOTOOOOOOOOOO. IKUUUUUUU IKUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU. IT'S A'ME MARIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"
Jayslacks @ May 27th 2008 11:29AM
Brett Ratner equals sucks so bad.
NoHitHair @ May 27th 2008 12:58PM
He directed X-Men 3.
He shouldn't even be alive let alone discussing potential future movies, especially ones based off of video games.
samfish @ May 27th 2008 1:10PM
^ Why not? They can't POSSIBLY be worse than any of the ones that have come out so far...
gamerprophet @ May 27th 2008 11:30AM
As long as he's better then Uwe Boll I wont hate him too much.
xFenixKnightx @ May 27th 2008 11:44AM
yeeeeppers
Cornelius @ May 27th 2008 11:58AM
I agree. Uwe Boll could easily take his skinny ass in a fight though.
baby sea tuna @ May 27th 2008 11:34AM
Ugh.
Obie @ May 27th 2008 11:37AM
This guy catches a lot of crap, sure not all his movies are great, but there are a lot worse directors out there.
And I agree:
....it could be worse, it could be Boll.
ill trooper @ May 27th 2008 2:39PM
I agree, there are far worse people doing far worse movies. I don't like Ratner that much because he doesn't feel like he loves what he does, it feels like he loves to be _known_ for what he does.
But I will admit that he's competent. The 'Rush Hour' films are about all they aspire to be. I watched parts of that Nicholas Cage heart-string-tugger flop 'The Family Man' on a plane flight (without audio) and I had to admit that while I had no interest in it, it was well-shot and looked great. X-Men 3 was a let-down but was complete, just not for me.
SO, in other words, I think things can be worse than Brett Ratner.
Ranus Studios @ May 27th 2008 11:47AM
He is just... just awful.
fyreblazer @ May 27th 2008 11:48AM
I'll take Ratner over Singer
*ducks*
Eric H @ May 27th 2008 11:53AM
I agree, Singer is overrated and just plain sucks.
Eric H @ May 27th 2008 11:53AM
The xmen movies were crap long before Ratner!
baby sea tuna @ May 27th 2008 1:37PM
LIES!
Eric H @ May 27th 2008 2:28PM
Nope I checked while I was at lunch and X-Men still sucks and X2 is still an abomination.
Wii60Warrior @ May 27th 2008 12:01PM
Lol which X Men movie was he responsible for?
Other than the mass murder of some of my favorite XMen I think all the movies were decent.
But everyone loves to be a critic and its so cool these days (on these small websites) to bash things that have mass popularity...
Touch My Body...LOL.
Batzarro(A.K.A Rap-Rock Cameo) @ May 27th 2008 1:37PM
The third one.
cranium @ May 27th 2008 1:45PM
I'm not a follower of X-men but I loved the second movie and liked the third. I'm sure some people are bitter because the movies didn't accurately follow the X-men lore but guess what.. movies never do! I think the majority of people are bashing this guy because everyone else already is. (kinda like how everyone bashes Boll yet nobody has seen his films)
Deez @ May 27th 2008 2:02PM
@cranium
Ive seen his films. And they suck.
Ive also seen Xmen 3. And it sucks.
I win?
samfish @ May 27th 2008 2:19PM
Xmen 3 sucks, but Uwe Boll movies really are on a whole different level of suck.
Xmen 2 was the best, by far.
AwesomeTown @ May 27th 2008 12:02PM
Wow. That's hilariously sad. This news definitely made my day.
horngreen @ May 27th 2008 12:09PM
Nobody could make most of the games into a good movie. I'm amazed nobody has mentioned that there is no nedd or way to turn something like Guitar Hero into a movie. I could see Will Ferrel trying something...Blarf. COD4 as a movie? Why? Is the story so deep and fresh it needs to be done? NO.
ComradeTrotskii @ May 27th 2008 12:16PM
I don't know, something based around around a Guitar Hero tournament (starting local and going on to the world championships blah blah etc) could work provided there was other standard comedy staples (dick jokes, non believable love story) and sharp writing. Indeed while this wouldn't be a 'videogame movie' in the true sense of the word it would have a lot more potential in my eyes than a movie based on Street Fighter for instance.
Cesaria (MKW:2621-2994-1376) @ May 27th 2008 12:13PM
Jesus, Ratner is such a turd sandwich. Who keeps giving him money to make movies?!
Henry @ May 27th 2008 12:21PM
Moviegoers.
J.W. @ May 27th 2008 12:32PM
The skies grow dark, the clapping of thunder sounding like the wails of distraught children. Women cry, men gnash their teeth, and all the while the devil himself smiles up at the world, as Brett Ratner continues to spread his vile creative seed.
J-son @ May 27th 2008 1:33PM
Awesome. He'll be like a successful Uwe Boll. Now we'll have shitty video game movies with expensive shitty special effects.
Batzarro(A.K.A Rap-Rock Cameo) @ May 27th 2008 1:42PM
PLEEEESE be Moon Patrol!(crosses fingers)
eastar @ May 27th 2008 1:44PM
X-Men 3 was the best movie in the trilogy, Unless your some kind of comic book nerd looking for a perfect adaptstion.
Batzarro(A.K.A Rap-Rock Cameo) @ May 27th 2008 1:54PM
Disagreement: I don't hate the movie, but it should have been about the cure, or about Phoenix. Both was TOO MUCH to shove into a single movie. And shoehorning Angel and Beast there without them actually having arole was bad too. Still, I can live with the dead of certain characters. Cuz that's how the comics are.
Rawnzilla @ May 27th 2008 3:30PM
You're right, X-Men 3 was the best movie; If you have horrible taste in movies.
zsb2003 @ May 27th 2008 3:30PM
He directed Red Dragon so he's good in my book.
Dale @ May 27th 2008 3:38PM
He's no Michael Bay.
Obie @ May 27th 2008 4:59PM
Which could be good or bad...depends who you ask. ;)
grapenutsrobot @ May 27th 2008 5:11PM
Brett Ratner can suck a cock.
eastar @ May 28th 2008 3:46AM
At Rawnzilla: I guess your one of those nerds.
