We're still not happy about Microsoft's choice to delist some underperforming XBLA titles, the equivalent of being unable to find your favorite shirt and, as a result, setting half of your shirts on fire. But we were happy to hear that our friends at Xbox 360 Fanboy learned from Microsoft that those who had purchased the banished games would still be able to re-download them.
As thrilled as we are to learn that we'll always be united with our copy of Root Beer Tapper, the whole thing still bums us out. Can't we just put the exiles in a separate area where they won't bother the good games?

Ya, I still think the whole idea of pulling the listing sucks considering their going to remain on the server.
I still think they would be better off dropping the price on them and seeing what happens.

Some of those games are decent and kinda fun like arkadian warriors but really, any game on the list you think is fun should have been bought and downloaded by now. So I agree in a sense.

Why should he have bought and played them by now? Don't we decide on our own what games we buy and when? There are a lot of games on XBL as well as retail games, and I don't think he should have been expected to play them within a specific timeline. They do cost money - some of us don't go and buy every game on XBL right away and instead buy them as we need new games to play.
Whats the point of delisting them if they are still on the server? Makes no sense to me. If people run out of games to play, then they may want to get these, and they won't be able to. Just seems a tad lame to me.

There's some games I've been waiting on the price to drop before purchasing, especially ones that got so-so reviews.
Microsoft would be smarter to lower the price than remove.
Personally I think removing the games puts them on the list for stupidest decisions of 2008.

Well, I've got 4 games from that list, and there were a few that I'd pick up if they were priced a little less.
It wouldn't surprise me if there were quite a few people who tried some of the demos and thought "I wouldn't pick this up at 800 points, but mmmm, 400 points, score!"

No, it's the equivalent of taking the clothes you never wear out of the closet and stuffing them in a box in the attic.

I just took a bunch of clothes I never wear anymore and bagged 'em and gave 'em away to Goodwill.
Too bad MS doesn't think the same way.

Nobody ever said they're never relist games. If they're still on the servers they obviously can make them available again if they ever want to.

They really need a section called "Crappy Overpriced Games". I'm kidding, but sorting the list would seem to be a much better alternative. I bought a lot of the under 65% games when I got my 360, and I do play them. They may not be making a fortune off the titles, but there's still got to be money coming in.

Make them all free. They're not going to make any money hiding them either...

What about all of the people that have yet to buy a 360? It would be one thing if everyone that could have had a crack at these games had either already purchased them or taken a pass, but if they think they will eventually end up with 100 million consoles sold, it seems a bit short-sighted to me. Especially if they have to keep them on their servers anyway.
The only reason I can think they wouldn't drop the price on those titles is because people might then assume that all titles will eventually be cheaper and might withhold buying them at full price. I dunno.

These are shitty old games that nobody buys, and nobody is going to miss them. Life goes on.
There are plenty of new games to take their places. Consider this Microsoft's way of pruning and keeping things from getting bloated. I personally agree with the idea... I don't like clutter.

Well they're just setting the precedent now. If they left it too long then in a few years there would have to be some kind of shitty-game holocaust--and then everyone would really have their panties all knotted up.
So they probably figure they'll do this initial set now, and then keep doing a few small trims every so often, and the list won't spiral out of control in the next year or two.
And yes, it does make my life better. I... I'm so excited.

Folks should listen to the Major Nelson Podcast. The games aren't even barred from being sold anymore. There are links in the games on live that let you share with a friend. So if you have a friend that has a delisted game you can still just as easily have them do a share with friend and you can still buy the games. All they have done is remove them from the storefront to make way for games that are new and more likely to sell.
This delisting issue has been blown way out of proportion. Complain about them not doing a spring update. Don't complain about them removing crap from the lists. Granted a good search option sure as hell would be a better solution.

I can't believe some people are actually defending this crap. The whole point of downloadable games is to have a longer shelf life; to help the developers keep their stuff out longer and to allow gamers the chance to buy games whenever the hell they want at the click of a buttom. Thats the point. Removing the listings makes it harder for developers and gamers to do this. Ergo its a moronic policy and theres a dozen alternative methods that wouldnt piss off so many of us. If the Live service is suppose to be about the gamers, then they shouldve consulded us and we'd have told them overwhelmingly to just make a crappy/classic games section. So please, nobody defend the stupidity of this policy.

Ironic that people call on Nintendo practice this same basic notion on the Wii library, but then cry foul when MS does it on XBLA.
Perhaps, following Microsoft's logic, Nintendo should delist some Wii games from the store shelves?

I wonder how much $ they're making off of last minute purchases from gamers who want to grab these before they're gone. Nice plan MS.

This whole delisting idea is stupid. Why don't they just fix the damn UI and make it easier to navigate the marketplace.

I think this whole thing is just a ploy to get people to buy the lagging games. They put something on the 3-month warning list and anybody who was on the fence about it will rush to buy it before it's too late.

While I don't agree with the whole de-listing of XBLA games, I believe there is something deeper going on that MS is simply not willing to share with the public.
My question however, is what about the DLC associated with the de-listed games? Say for instance I own some of Solitaire's DLC and eventually want to buy the rest. If the game is de-listed will people who bought it already be able to recommend it to me as well? It would really be a pain trying to find people who have what you want.
