On the 360 I found myself wanting a targeting reticle for world exploration (professor layton style tap on everything to find secrets) or at least a "cycle through nearby objects" button.

and that's my only complaint for the game, took me about 7 hours to beat not counting a level 1 restart to get the cat and pacifist achievements... (still haven't collected everything, beaten it without dying, or beaten the last boss without using a health item...) so those are on my next playthrough.

This is probably the first RPG I'll re-play after beating.

Agreed on a targeting reticle for the 360. Making sure you had found/clicked on everything for each scene was harder than it needed to be.

This game doesn't exist to me until it hits Wii or PS3.

Well I once had the same opinion (-PS3) but then they gave me a Linux version and I couldn't resist. I've send them a list of more than 20 points what could be improved over the first episode and they were really nice about it. I'm looking forward to the next episode anyhow. Even though I don't like PA webcomic that much with some improvements this semi-turnbased fighting and the art style make this really worth playing. And in addition to that you support alternative distribution concepts in the future. Many more devs will sell their stuff online once there is proof that yoyu can actually make money with it w/o Steam or one of the console's internal shops. If you want to improve the future of games, buy this! PA happened to be one great examples for many changes that are already in the communities but haven't reached the vendors/distributors yet.

Would have been nice if that site had at least bothered to take a screenshot of the PC/360 versions in parts of the game that weren't completely different!

There's a reason I did that actually. Because any screens I took wouldn't be in HD it wouldn't have proven anything... and people would have been pissed.

However, the links to images below the graphical comparison are from two areas that are similar.

Also, take a look at the character models. Those don't change (Gabe and Tycho at least) and it will give you a good idea of the differences.

I tend to buy games on the 360 solely because of the social interaction/Xbox Live. But PAA:E1:OtRSPoD was an exception. I played the XBLA demo, but bought the PC version, which I enjoyed tremendously.

As obvious as it sounds, I think the only thing that really holds people back from PC gaming is the cost. Now that I've upgraded to a new gaming laptop (can play Crysis), I'm finding myself spending much more game-time with a mouse and keyboard. And considering that Penny Arcade really isn't very stressful on graphics cards, I think people should really try this out on PC. Penny Arcade makes more money from the PC version, anyways :)

On both that and a couple other recommendations, I'll give it a shot on PC(since a PS3 version has yet to be announced and the new X360 hasn't arrived yet).

Hmm...as a PC Gamer at heart and also an owner of all consoles, I downloaded the 360 and PC demos to compare.

I definitely liked using the mouse better, and reading on my laptop is much more comfortable than on my big screen for my 360(reading on TV's = meh). While I like actually controlling the characters with a gamepad, I prefer the Diablo style on PC of clicking around, and not having to walk your character to each spot to check it out.

Either way, I guess I could have gone either way, but I'm holding off for the STEAM version, as I would much rather have my library on PC where it will stay, who knows with backwards compatibility with the next Xbox so I've been reluctant to buy anything digital. In PC Gamer Mag, it says it will be coming to STEAM, but I haven't heard anything, maybe they slipped up?

I don't think it'll be coming to Steam.

The Penny Arcade guys are using this for their digital distribution.

I started reading the article...but its failure to post up comparison screens using the SAME SCREEN turned me off before I could get into the meat of it.

I vastly prefer the PC version for several reasons.

First, reading text. It just looks better on my computer screen.

Second is really mulifaceted. Greenhouse. It's light on the DRM, supports Linux and Mac(I use a PC, but for some reason have always respected support for at least the former option), and supports indie developers. And, well, I've had a 360 crap on me. And then, the machne treated me like a thief when I wanted to play my arcade games. I can't play them offline. What? Screw that. So yeah, I'll pick the more open of the options, thanks.

Four. Control. I prefer the diabolo-style over the turn-based RPG style. The battles felt less fun in the 360 demo, and selecting objects? A pain. And I *love* just clicking on things to read the sometimes multi-layered descriptions written up for them. It's hlf the fun of an adventure game!

Five? I *just* got a new laptop. And so now the game is portable! Woohoo! :O

So yeah. It was a no contest for me.
