While most of us here in the States continue to try to wipe the sleep from our eyes after a long Memorial Day weekend, Sony's Japanese arm has announced that the PlayStation Network has seen its one millionth user account created in Japan. The company adds that the service, which first went live in the region November 2006, is used by nearly 400,000 players each month.
The celebrate the achievement, SCEJ is offering up a thousand ¥1,000 PSN promotional tickets to use online, meaning if you happen to have access to a Japanese PSN account you have until June 9 to throw your virtual hat into the ring for a freebie.

If Sony could just get a team to localize J-stuff for the US market, they could win this round of 'console wars'.

One thing I wish they did with the ps3 was make ALL their games Backward compatible right form the ps1, including imports. Man i would love to play Tobal 2 on my 32" sharp via ps3, rather than emulating it on my pc.

So do they count all the people outside of Japan that created accounts? Thats exactly what I did for the GT5 preview and I bet a lot of others did that too. The NA one was trash.

Probably does count the "fake" ones. It all helps inflate the numbers.
Not hating on Sony here. I hate when any company uses fudges the numbers to make them look better (like units shipped instead of sold, etc.).

Are they really touting this? Really? I mean, its free and all. I'm surprised its not higher with all the fake ones out there too. Even I had a jpn account for a second or two but just deleted it. Kept the EU one though :)
