Didn't think there would be as much hype for this considering its not a GTA4 type game.

But like GTA4, the talk is starting. Looks like it might just have a chance to ACTUALLY be a system seller. Saying that, talk is one thing, action is another.

yeah, if I didn't have one, this would be a system seller for me. I think a lot of PS3 owners or potential owners are waiting for that one title to make them say "yeah, this is worth it", and even non-MGS fans will be at least curious to see what all the hype is about if the game continues to get good press. Sony needs this to be a big game with all the recent announcements of upcoming 360 games.
On another note, after sending my 360 in for the 4th time, MS just sent me a free Elite! I could hardly believe it, and their buying me off might just work, despite my better judgement.

Well, that sucks. Because all I got after my fifth repair was a reminder Halo 3 was out now, a month of free Xbox Live to make up for the 6 weeks in the repair channel, and two hours on the [hone fucking with DRM issues over my $100 worth of microsoft space buck purchases.

This is not a Rumor. I posted the scans for each and every score, however - NeoGAF doesn't allow magazine scans.

lol. Yeah, i believe the ninjas have already been dispatched.

I believe the dutch complaint was that the game is too fast paced to play while completely high.

"the MGS brand has been known to rake in high numbers"
You could swap that for "good games have been known to rake in high numbers" and it'd be pretty much the same statement.

MGS may be quirky, but that adds to its charm if anything. Kinda like in GTA, how you can drive down the sidewalk, taking out three lamp posts, a mailbox, and knock over an old lady, while going 80 MPH past a cop and they just don't care. But tap their bumper and they'll be all over you.

I'm shocked that an official PS magazine (dutch) gave it a 9.6 instead of a 10.

I can't give a game w/ long ass cut scenes a 10. I know I can skip them, and I don't mind watching SOME scenes for story, but I'd rather the story telling involve me interacting with the game somehow.

Yeah, it's been a sad trend with the Metal Gear games to have increasingly more cut scenes. Sorry, I don't feel it necessary to listen to David Hayter poetic ponderings on landmines for upwards of 90 minutes in his faux-gruff voice.

And MGS3 sold a quarter as many units as 2 did. Kojima was unconvinced it was because of the ludicrous story, but because if fewer cutscenes. In his crazy world, more cutscenes = more sales.

I don't see this as a system seller. The Metal Gear series was ruined for a ton of people because of 2, and 3 suffered for it. The bulk of the buyers likely already own a PS3.

Maybe, just maybe, it IS only worth a 9.6. I have no doubt in thinking this will be good.
I'm an Xboxer, and in all/most Xbox magazines the Halo games have always scored highly, even though at their core they were only mediocre.
If IGN give it the illusive 9.8 or higher, THEN I'll believe that it's worth a 10/10.
And why are the idiot French rating stuff out of 20?

I'm sorry, we're complaining about cutscenes in a CINEMATIC ACTION game now? This is like bitching about Madden keeping a score. Besides, until you pussies dredged through adventure games of old or even Xenogears, you have NOTHING to say in this regard.

Isn't that marked still as a rumor? Plus, the ending of MGS2 was nearly 90 minutes...

Yea - endings I guess can get away with it since the gamer is done, but even then... sitting through it just doesn't work for some of us. I guess if you can pause it and such. I'll admit I don't know the extent of the features, but if the game provided a video library option where you could watch the unlocked long cut scenes like a video w/ FF,RW,etc. then it could be cool.

But what I just don't like is playing a game - really getting into it - loving the gameplay, and then boom... you're hit with a long cut scene that takes you out of your rhythm. The story is cool, but I don't know how many gamers will actually sit through 90 minutes of it if the rumor yields true.

Something happened to me last Thursday when I was driving home. I had a couple of miles to go - I looked up and saw a glowing orange object in the sky, to the east! It was moving very irregularly... suddenly there was intense light all around me - and when I came to, I was home. What do you think happened to me?

I'm glad POM Dutch is the honest one....

This game could be a '10' out of '10', but I think 9.6 seems more likely a score for any game, and makes it seem like the hype wasn't too bad.

Though haven't all MGS games for consoles received really good, '9' or '90' + scores?

No really. I can't. That's why I'm spending my spare time building a time machine, so that I'll be able to play it sooner. Although, at the rate I'm making it, it won't be finished until June 13, making the whole endeavor pointless.

This game is gushing with movie qualoty productions, this game is going to be an experience. Can't wait. This game wil deserve all the scores it gets, unlike gta4. GTA was a great game, but i don't think it deserved all those 10's, it was flawed, but i did love it.

No, it wouldn't. Because the first three were games we forgave their ludicrous plots and melodramatic voice acting. If this, or any of the past, game were released as a 15 hour movie, it'd mocked and scorned.

MGS as a series isn't exactly the greatest story of all time. Its more like a bunch of random ass mind fucks that exist for no reason at except to confuse people.
