Square Enix, protector of the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest bloodlines, reported revenue was down for its last fiscal year ending March 31. Don't worry, Square Enix isn't going to go all Aeris, the company still saw solid revenues and profits, but sales were down about 10% to $1.43 billion, while operating income was down 17% to $208 million.
Sales across Square Enix's various divisions were all down (Offline games down 19%, Online games down 11% and Mobile down 15%). For this fiscal year ending next March, SE expects $1.54 billion in sales. Although we're not even going to guess when Final Fantasy XIII is coming out, Square Enix does have some titles lined up this year with Infinite Undiscovery' s release in September and schedule Dragon Quest remakes.

Quit trying to make your lead characters into drag queens, and try appealing to a more global audience for once Squeenix.
You want those revenues up right?

@Leobebes
Be careful what you wish for Leobebes, they tried doing something completely different when they came out with their space-simulator game. Space simultaor games are about as far as you can get from rpgs. The name escapes me at the moment but it was on the xbox 360 and I felt was kind of so-so.
I'd rather have played FF13 than the space-sim game. They just do RPGs better than space simulators despite the talented people. It might be having practiced making RPGs 13 times + remakes.

I just completed The World Ends With You and I can confidently say that without doubt this is the best game of the year. Possibly even the decade. It's that good.

They are developing a new DS game called Sigma Harmonics...
Looks very good too.

If they really want to make some cash they could try making Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within II.

Uhhh the original studio that made Spirits went belly up so fast, they closed after SW and never made another movie. Good flick or not it killed itself by calling it FF with no FF references. The studio that made the new FF flick is not the same one they created to do Spirits. LOL I dont think they are ready to take a risk like that again.

No FF references? Spirits Within even had Jenova.

They probably still did far better than Mistwalker, despite them releasing their big "FF-Killer".

No kidding. Sad, I'm not even sure thay made a profit on LO. What really gets me is every JRPG thats been released for 360 has sunk, yet they're still screaming for FFXIII. Why? Looking at sales clearly shows this is not a JRPG crowed. I think IU and LR are testing grounds to see if they can make a profit on the 360 or if their going to be nothing more than another Lost Oddessy.

It might also help to further go multi platform for their big name titles instead of spending a ton of $$$ on a system seller and only putting it out on one machine... *shrug*
Posted: May 27th 2008 7:25PM (Unverified) said
And how do you know that will help when as far as it stands they haven't even released a flagship game on one system yet (FFCC and DQS are far from flagship, they're spinoff's) Lets see how FF 13 does on PS3 alone first then you can start screaming multiplat.

Release the SNES games on Virtual console! Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy 2 & 3, Secret of Evermore, Breath of Fire, Super Mario RPG.
Or a compilation disc for Wii, Xbox360, and PS3! It can include every Squeenix game evar for everything prior to PS2! Okay maybe it won't all fit on a Wii disc...
And STOP making all the crappy Secret of Mana sequels! Make some good ones for a change.

I think that would be cool, FF I-IX and throw in some special features (maybe an older FF spinoff that wasn't released in the US), I'd Buy IT!!! But I'd have to warn you, if their the original Nes 1-3, they take A LOT of patiencs to play LOL.

The problem might be that the games are starting to look alike from one to the next. except the battle systems - the one part they need to quit changing so much is the only part that seems to get a complete overhaul from game to game. Like that stupid slot system in the new FF7 uggg! no monster farming for levels, nothing to really search for as the "quests" take like 5 minutes, no stores to go to for items, no different weapons, random limit breaks, etc. its a big hit but i cant see why after playing some of it. I personally dont think it should even be labeled an RPG. sure its for a portable but its not like any RPG im used to playing ....... About as boring as FF8 was, "F**K the game play, lets just make pretty cut scenes instead" !!!!! If i want to watch CGI all day ill rent some vids or go to atom films, not spend 40-50 bucks on a "game"

I have to agree FF's are starting to become very linear. I'm really hoping they revive some magic with FF13, and that it's not just a longer X, or XII game. Also it would also help to balance out cut scenes with gameplay, It really gets tiring having to set through CG for every little thing you do. It would also help if they'ed release on flagship game a year (FF, Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quest, ect) for the system. Instead they're relaying on the 5th remake of FFIV on handhelds, wich don't do big buiseness in the US.
