Instead, Kotick had Paula Abdul pull four people from the audience -- one of them just happened to be legendary skateboarder (and Activision franchiser) Tony Hawk -- to play an unnamed Lenny Kravitz song (we're guessing "Are You Gonna Go My Way," since it was used in the trailer). We've embedded the video, which features some in-game footage, after the break.
Activision CEO introduces Guitar Hero World Tour

At the All Things Digital 6 conference, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick took the stage for an interview with Kara Swisher. During the session, Kotick introduced and showed off to the audience Guitar Hero World Tour. "I tried to get [Yahoo and Microsoft execs] Jerry Yang, Steve Ballmer, Sue Decker and Bill Gates to play Guitar Hero, but they weren't interested."

Well, I bought GH3. I was excited.
Then, came the "UNPLUG ZE UNCOMPATZIBLE PERRRRRIFRIALZ!!", because I had a Rock Band Guitar Plugged in.
"strange..."
Then, I pick my favorite GH personality, Judy Nails. She has giant Gozangas and they move when the wind blows, and she's dressed like a two dollar whoooore. I always liked her because she moved less than any of the rest of the toons, oh no, now she shakes her ass in the camera and flaunts her breasteses.
"ok"
Next, Brett Michaels shows up to sing in the first set.
"um..."
Then, Halfway through the game, Tom Morello shows up to make me play a completely random guitar riff and breaks my strings and kicks me in the face while strippers dance on stage and the RED BULL mascot assaults me from the rear. All of this is quite strange compared to my last 3 guitar hero purchases (yes, I even bought GH:80's).
After slogging it through with Morello (cheap shotting him twice to make him lose), I get to Slash, who has another random song, and he beats me on the first powerup he hits me with. WTF.

idk bout you, but my eyes have gotten used to the ho/po in rock band. there's lots of anti-activision feelings out there (personally i'd say anti-neversoft) because they're just carrying on the exact same style created by harmonix, not adding anything new and original except for gameplay modes that only encourage competition and not a whole lot of fun. plus, now that rock band has shafted GH3 up the ass, neversoft has no choice but to start making their own full band game in order not to lose the franchise. they are basically total sellouts

Furthermore, can we stop acting like Harmonix invented drum/singing peripherals for the rhythm genre? It has been done before them. Yes, they did it well. But they also fucked up royally. The RB guitar is shit and the HO/PO are unnoticeable. I love both games for what they bring to the table. And GH is not plagiarism. I guess there can only be one shooter game/rpg/platformer. They're taking the formula and trying to improve on it, which anyone should be happy about. Competition breeds creativity. Why must there only be one game? You don't need to show brand loyalty here. Who fuckin' cares? If it's fun, it's fun.

But is Activision actually improving it? Therein lies the question because so far the art is STILL shit, they still have no sense of dynamics to the character, etc.
Also, for the record, Harmonix DID invent the singing games. Or do you think the trademark of a Harmonix game, a Freezepop song, is in Karaoke Revolution by chance?

"its the first time you will have MULTIPLE INTSURMENTS...." man the irony. i hope this abomination of a ripped off game (looks like they are only improving the gh serise not the rythme serise because every thing in the gamplay aspect looks identical to rock band....) causes the gh seires to fall off the map and DIE. after rock band came out everyone relised that it was just a better game in every aspect. except gh3 had 2 or 3 harder songs. rb delivered on promised content, best thing yet, they reached their goal of content. somthing gh has being promising for years, but they only have a total of 20 - 35 songs (gh2 + gh3) its really disappointing that plagarism like this is legal. rock band for life, pull the life support off of gh alredy...

Ha. I laugh at all the people saying HO/PO's on RB are unnoticeable. I suck at them, but I don't think I've ever not noticed one. A smaller note is easier to read than a note of the same size with a faint white ring around it.
Maybe you need to get a TV bigger than 19".

SERIOUSLY, WTF, are they not gonna change the interface? We already see it again in the mobile game, DS, and Aerosmith.
Thank you Activision, for milking a perfectly innocent franchise.
Also, a huge LOL @ the woman asking "Isn't that Rock Band?"

I believe an Explanation is in order....
GH1 Was the first game. Nuff said. A few Characters and a few guitars and what have ya.
GH2 Step up GH1 by changing the Graphics, the Venues looked better, the Characters (although made slightly cartoony) looked prettier. And you could buy new outfits for them. They also stepped up the Innovation by adding Hammer-ons and Pull-offs. Making it slightly more like a real guitar.
GH: 80's was made by activision. They basically copy and pasted the code from Gh2, and changed the look of the characters to make them more....80s? They added new songs and added things to venues to make them more "80's" as well.
For GH3 they "remade" the whole game. or at least the HUD. Gameplay was similar to other GH's. Hitting notes was made "easier." Making the game harder appeared to be a difficult task so they loaded songs with "Triple power chords." They recreated the characters...bad idea in my opinion, every character i knew and loved in the other GHs were beautiful, these ones made me wanna throw up. They improved "DLC." instead of a few new songs a year...they gave us about 1 pack a month, most of the packs being holiday related... The venues were changed.... AND battle mode...oohhhh battle mode what would we do without you.... Battle mode is basically trying to play mario kart in a mirror drunk, its stupid. Using "taktics" In my opinion its basically who ever gets lefty flip first wins... Besides that: "Online play: huge feature amIrite? liek NO gamez have online play..."
and co-op career...as if u didn't have enough fun in single player career, now u can choose a friend and rox out...
GH Aerosmith and GH On tour...
They seem to have the exact same design as GH3...and as far as i'm concerned...so does GH: World tour.
As for rock band i can't say much. They haven't released a sequel so i don't know if the interface will change or not. But they HAVE given us a steady amount of DLC which is nice. Who needs a Sequel with the same interface when you have DLC?
And thats all i have to say about that.
Someone prove me wrong please...

All of my hardcore GH3 friends are saying GH4 is gonna be gay and it's just ripping off Rock Band. So, I guess once it comes out people will finally realize RB is the true game. Seriously, same HUD has GH3 (button look wise) and is copying RB's band fretboard. Ridiculous!

...Well, I am getting this game and I have Rock Band. You people really need to lighten up a little bit. Was Guitar Hero III as good as the others or Rock Band? No, but it was still enjoyable. Rock Band was and is amazing to play even, what, six months after launch? I am getting this because the drums look better, I like the new freedom in the multiple career modes, I like how I can create my own song, and I like how everything is wireless. Not many people have talked about any of these things and mostly just say, "LAWL @ GH, RB WUZ BETTR!!!!" Wait until you play to make judgments on the actual gameplay.
They are both good (except Guitar Hero III)and since I can afford both, I will do so.

Wow I have never seen so much fanboys in one post. You all sound like Activision shat on GH and does nothing but copy RB. Shall we blame harmonix for copying Konami? I guess the "create a song" feature is a ripoff of RB as well. Really, are you all paid by Harmonix?
That said, I love RB and I love GH3. But I guess it's a crime to think GH3 is good. Yes there are cons to GH3 (such as there is not as much DLC and only 1 instrument) but don't ignore the faults of RB either. At least in GH3 if you go online each player can pick their own songs, unlike RB where you have a very slim chance of picking your own songs.
And some of you complain of GH3 being too difficult? Try going from GH3 to RB. While I have no problem seeing the HOPO's on the RB note chart, they are much harder to actually hit. Unlike GH3, on RB you must hit the HOPO note at the same EXACT time it scrolls down the fret board. This is not necessarily a bad thing because it is more realistic, but nonetheless it is harder.
I really don't understand why anyone hates GH3. Maybe because the fact it's not made by harmonix?
Please understand, I am just playing the devil's advocate. I love both games and if anyone wants to play me in them, I got RB for PS3 and GH3 for 360.

THANK YOU.
I loathe the way you have to anally hit every note at the E-X-A-C-T right instant in Rock Band. I like to have a good time while playing these games and with GH I can do that, but Rock Band makes my eyes bleed and bores me to tears with the way you have to stare at the screen without blinking to make sure you don't miss a note by .000000001 seconds, because everyone knows that on a real guitar if you hit a note it .000000001 seconds late it doesn't make a sound.
RB could do a heckuva lot better job making the guitar parts feel more like you're actually playing the guitar and less like you're playing simon says while some unrelated music plays in the background as well.

You sound like someone who never played a GH game before 3 came out. The challenge in a music/RHYTHM game is to hit the notes at the proper time. It doesn't make sense that a game based on RHYTHM should allow the player max points for being off said RHYTHM. Go play GH II or hell, even GH I and try to be .000000001 second off. You'll get your ass handed to you.
And for the record, if you've ever played in a band you'd know how noticeable it is when you're a split second off rhythm.

Has everyone forgotten that you can make your own song in gh4? Come on, who needs DLC when you can create your own song? I'm getting gh4 to add something that gh and rock band have failed to add AC/DC and Led Zeppelin(plus many more bands).

I'm pretty sure you won't be able to add AC/DC, Led Zep and others (otherwise, imagine the field day the RIAA will have with this game. "UNLICENSED COVERS").
I'm more than prudent with the "Create-a-song" feature. User-created content is not always the way. How many YouTube videos are genuinely funny or impressive, when 99.99% of them are completely stupid?
Oh, and PS: lady, you win the Internet with "It's called Rock Band, I think". Wouldn't be surprised to see a shirt with this sentence on it.

There was one redeeming aspect to this video: now I know the GH3 guitars will work. Thank fucking God.
Save for this tidbit, that was about as poor an introduction--rather, death knell--to the continuation of a massively successful franchise as I've seen.
It's akin to introducing GTA:IV with Bone Thugs N' Harmony role-playing the opening sequence.
Then again, that might make pop culture history.
Damn paradoxes.

why is everybody hating so much? Really, how could they not add new instruments? It's just a logical next step for this genre. HMX was just bold enough to do it first. The drums look cool, and why does everyone care that they kept the same GUI as the old games? No one complained when they kept it for 1, 2, and 3. You're all just nitpicking for no reason. And come on, you can make your own songs and upload them. Rock band will never have that
Posted: Jul 10th 2008 2:10PM (Unverified) said
They're hating because they apparently feel their precious Rock Band game is being threatened and they're not thinking it through.
If you love Rock Band then a better more complete Guitar Hero game should be exactly what you're rooting for. More and more innovative features means Harmonix needs to step up to the plate when it comes to Rock Band II. (you know, the way they DIDN'T STEP UP FOR THE WII VERSION WHICH BLOWS GOATS)
I might have been a Rock Band fan if not for the complete rectal reaming they gave Wii owners. By the sounds of it, Activision/GH is going to at least attempt to reconcile with Wii owners with their next release.
Rock Band could have hit a home run by making a complete game for the Wii (you know, the one that's currently outselling every other console) but instead bunted back to the pitcher for a colossal game losing out by removing everything but the "core game experience", such things as DLC, character customization, online play, and just about anything else that might actually make playing songs on plastic instruments in a game fun to do more than once or twice.
Sorry all you Rock Band fans are so upset but quit yer bitchin. Activision is just making Rock Band (for the Wii anyway) the way it should have been done.
