If there's any criticism we've heard about EA's Madden NFL series time and time again, it's that since EA got the monopolyexclusive rights for the NFL license, the only thing that seems to change about the game year after year is the number at the end. Whether it's the doing of EA Sport's new head honcho Peter Moore, or some new vigor at EA Sports, the company is definitely looking to show that Madden NFL 09 is improved.
Above you'll find EA showing off the differences between Madden 08 and 09. We've placed several other videos showcasing new features and animations in Madden 09 after the break.
If we could just get Madden 2004 with updated rosters and jetpacking eliminated I'd be happy. Hell, you can even keep the graphics the way they were in '04.
Just no more of this current gen trash please. Fix the engine at its heart, not the footwork that no one cares about.
i've seen every single one of those animations that they claim are "2009" on my ps3 copy of madden 08... and to be honest it looks like they have the 360 version of madden on the left and the ps3 version on the right of madden 08... i've played both and my ps3 version looks much better than the 360 version of 08 but the 360 runs at 60 fps while the ps3 runs at 30 fps
Just because they have better graphics doesnt mean that Madden is different, it is gameplay what counts and Madden has been the same for about 5 straight years and since they have the NFL license, well EA is not going to try harder. Madden sells way too good and EA is just updating graphics and rosters.
I'll only play '09 if two features are re-included:
1. The dynamic audible system from the PS2 versions needs to be back. The 360's only-five-audibles pisses me off.
2. The play clock needs the accelerated clock option. It's not possible to have a realistic-feeling game if 5-minute quarters results in realistic scores, 15-minute quarters leads to triple-digit scores, and there's basically no downside to ending a play inbounds in the 2-minute warning.
So I drop $60 for better looking grass that I'll be "over" in 5 minutes? I remember thinking the original Xbox would be able to handle multiple players on LIVE. Si they are all still just one on one, unacceptable EA.
Its not graphics or animation that is the problem with Madden. Its the fact that the AI and physics have actually regressed each year. I think the electric table football plays more realistically than any current gen iteration of madden. Some of my biggest complaints: 1) Line play. The trenches are about as fake as can be. There is almost no difference between a stud DT or a flake. There are Pro Bowl DLs who do stuff besides rush the passer. 2) Secondary AI. Choosing between man or zone is like choosing whether one likes tap or bottled water. Its all the pretty much the same. 3) Passing. Come on EA. Fess up to the fact that this is the same passing engine as found on the Genesis. There is only the bullet or pop fly approach to passing (the former resulting in LBs swatting down bombs and the latter resulting in no receiver ever being open). 99% of all passes result in the DB all over the receiver with a stat check to decide who catches the ball. Hitting passes in stride is tougher than scoring with a supermodel. Any real football fan would rather have realistic gameplay over detailed field turf.
as a former running back the fact that the animations and "locomotion" are improved to look like actual running backs and that the gameplay may change now is exciting... hopefully this will change the running backwards in circles to avoid tackles technique and we can actually see some of the running backs styles come through in the game.
60 bucks for improved grass and locomotion? I could've sworn that this was DLC, but oh well, I give them props for being able to deliver a game every year.
But still, 09 doesn't look any more or less fun than 08: as repeated over and over again, graphics aren't everything.
You niggas are nerds! I've played every version of madden since 95 and never have the animations looked so lifelike as this years. The game is runnin on that gangsta euphoria engine. Just watch the videos. Stop viewin' the clips through them EA hater shades.
