Ubisoft has released a new trailer for
Far Cry 2 as part of its Ubidays press event about to get underway in Paris. The trailer is narrated by Reuben Oluwagembi, a freelance reporter in the fictional African city of Port Selao. Oluwagembi wants to tell us about "The Jackal" – a merchant of death, a mercenary (we always think of that
West Wing episode where C.J. performs "
The Jackal" for the staff too). If you're paying attention, you'll notice a link to Reuben's blog –
War Unlimited: My Journey Through a Warzone – where he writes about his experience covering the violence and factions that dominate Port Selao.
Far Cry 2 is
expected later this year and will have us hunting down "The Jackal" across the African savanna on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. Hopefully we'll get a firmer release date from Ubidays today.

Awesome! Can't wait for this game. Looks much better the Far Cry, story and graphics wise.

I somehow missed the first Far Cry, is it worth picking up now?

Not if you're looking for a good story (the PC version, anyway, haven't played it on the consoles). But the huge levels are something to marvel if you haven't played crysis yet. Also, Far Cry is a tough game, especially when you get further into it.

That's a Nigerian name, sort of. The "Oluwa" part is anyway. And that photo looks a little like Nigeria, or any other West African country. It's just the graffiti that makes the photograph look odd. It's well too clean. Not scatty enough, if you know what I mean.

Far Cry was a lot of fun up until I ran into the mutants. Then it just got hard.
