First screens of BioShock on PS3

2K Games has released the first (teeny-tiny) round of images from BioShock on PS3, following up on this morning's official announcement of the game. And ... it looks like BioShock. On Xbox 360.

As mentioned in our previous post about the game's PS3 debut, developer 2K Marin is looking into ways to enhance the game for Sony's platform, but stopped short of providing any hard details. The latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly reports that the game essentially looks indistinguishable from the 360 original, and that the only "enhancements" at present are the plasmid additions and bug fixes that were pushed out to the 360 release via Xbox Live. 2K Marin has told EGM that it is working with Sony on more substantial enhancements, but at present they remain as murky as the sea enveloping Rapture.

I didn't expect much of a change from the 360 version. Either way, its a great game for people to grab who didn't already have the 360 version.

Or the PC version, which is graphically much better if you have a system up to snuff with the recommended specs.

This is not a bad thing considering some of the less-than-stellar ports the PS3's recieved over the years.

You're right, its an excellent thing. I for one, am happy that I'll get to play this game. Hopefully this will lead to more and more competent ports and multi-platform games.

They have to make it better, look at the backlash that happened when GTA4 was identical on both consoles. People couldn't handle the fact that the consoles are pretty much matched.

Agreed Nato. Bioshock is definately a game that is worth the experience. While the replay value for me is perhaps once a year, the game is certainly worth the price of admission.

Hopefully its more like the Oblivion of ports rather than the Lost Planet of ports.

I think everyone can agree to that.

I have nothing? What are you talking about, I enjoyed this game on launch day along with all the other great 360, Wii, and PS3 games. It sounds to me like you're just so desperate to justify your purchase of a Wii and 360 that you have to attack the PS3 with these pathetic troll attempts whenever possible. Why can't you just enjoy the games on the systems you own? If you really were happy with your purchase then you wouldn't need to troll.

2 things

1 - I think MS is much more of a "racist evil" corporation than Sony, I mean, c'mon, Windows Vista is a joke. We can probably all agree that Nintendo is the loveable Uncle that everyone gets along with.

2 - I was hoping the carfire comment was so over-the-top that everyone would realize It was not to be taken seriously, obviously a bad assumption on my part

Pojo, as a European I can tell you that Nintendo is not a 'lovable uncle'. It's more the uncle that gives all your siblings a Mars bar, abuses you in the night, and then gives you a Mars bar a whole 6 months later.

The lighting and shadows look nice here, perhaps more pronounced than the 360 version. PS3 owners will be in for a treat.

When this was first known about, I ahted the idea of the PS3 getting Bioshock. Now I'm warming to the idea because I feel sorry for people who paid money to not play any good games, even if it does happen a good year and a half later.

Sounds like 2K knows how to make a PS3 port, maybe the first of many?

The creators of GTA4...Duh? Who did you think they were? EA?

Yet sacrifices were made to have it looking as good as the 360 version, or to have it running at the same frame rate. That said we don't know the res or details about Bioshock so it might turn out the same as GTA IV.

I think when they were contemplated porting this, they considered all the possibilities and difficulties that could potentially arise.

With the experience of the Rockstar crew, they can put together the game in the way they want, and with no side by side launch with the 360 version, its safe to say, they can relax a little and just try to make it better in anyway possible rather then just the same game.

If they want more sales, they would have to make it better anyway, considering PS3 gamers may have already played the game or are trying to find a logical reason to buy a port over a new game such as MGS4 and LBP.

October is the PERFECT time for this to come out. After Socom, before R2 and LBP, this will squeeze in nicely to a quickly filling up.

speaking of which, my wife told me last night she wants to get a new 360 for the new Viva Pinata game...

A girlfriend/wife that is into gaming is seriously one of the best things ever.

My wife is an addict and MS is the pusher.

My 360 has been down for about 9 months now. The only games my wife ever played were UNO and VP. She has kept me from getting another 360, saying "you bought this thing less than 18 months ago and it doesnt work??? what happened?"
What else could I say, "things break!" Since I had a PS3, she wouldnt let me drop another $350 on a new 360, but she was looking over my shoulder while I was reading a thread about the new VP, she was hooked

Yeah, my wife just suggested we get another 360 so she can play VP2. I suppose she's sharing, and that's certainly not going to get any easier.

Good News all around though, both the 360 and PS3 have some software lineups.

Yeah, my gf loves the VP too. She is also really into the RB and GH stuff. I lucked out in her being into some games (though she won't use the PS3). VP was the game that made her get us a 2nd 360 so she could play it when I was playing something else. I seriously think the game package is laced with drugs.

I feel the same way, except about Lost Odyssey. If LO were on PS3, I wouldn't ever consider buying a 360. As it is, I'm just considering it...I doubt I'll get one, but I'm not sure.

I think I've got you beat. My girlfriend enjoys the usual girl stuff (plus Guitar Hero), but when I got her into a split screened game of Gears with me and my buddies she got hooked (a big part of it is the social atmosphere that game brings along with it).

Well, as you may know, splitscreen in Gears is the most awful thing ever because it doesn't keep the aspect ratio fixed so you end up with a giant blindspot on your screen. So, I convinced her to let me move a second TV into the living room along with a second 360 so we can play online together without having to do splitscreen the few times she actually feels like playing (like twice a month).

Now, I can't wait for September and Sunday Ticket with side by side HDTVs :O

Side by side HDTV's is pretty hard to beat, I'm just glad my girlfriend will play and enjoy whatever game.

seriously, My wife saw me playing Dead Rising back in the day, and said that it was the most disgusting thing she had ever saw in her life.

She cant get into FPS or RPG or anything like that. I am hoping LBP will be something we can both enjoy

What would you recommend as an introductory game to fast paced FPS's?
I've been trying to get my girlfriend into those games for awhile but she's much more in the RTS/MMORPG crowd.

Did anyone really play this game for it's graphics in the first place? I thought Bioshock was gaming's Valhalla of storytelling.
