A Nintendo representative put semi-adequate spin on the situation stating that there are "pockets of stock shortages" around the UK. When a game goes from the #2 spot on the sales chart to dropping off the Top 40, that appears to be more than just "pockets" of shortages. Nintendo claims that fat little girls around the UK will be able to pick up a Wii Fit soon enough as the company continues to replenish stock on a weekly basis.
UK runs out of Wii Fit, Nintendo will replenish ASAP

Nintendo tells GI.biz that it will replenish the UK's stock of Wii Fit "as soon as possible." A Wii Fit shortage in the UK became quite obvious this past week as the fat-reduction simulator practically disappeared from the UK sales charts. Meaning, either citizens of the UK made a collective Borg decision to stop purchasing the game life-altering product or stock sold out.

They never make enough Wii stuff for the UK. My sister works at a Virgin Megastore in York and she says their stock of Wii consoles is usually in the single figures.

I thought they renamed Virgin Megastores to Zazzi or Zippy or something.

CBA finding the stats again (in the old wii fit news bit) but yea we're the fattest in Europe. I don't know where the hell they hide though I don't see many round my neck of the hills.

Unfortunately, those who want to keep fit are the ones who're already fit.

According to statistics I saw last year, 1/3 of Britons are obese. Now I don't know whether 'obese' just means 'pudgy', or whether people who are obese never go out at all, but you sure as hell don't see that many.

According to Wikipedia obese can typically mean any of these things:
A BMI in excess of 30.
A waist size greater than 102cm for men and 88cm for women.
A waist-hip ratio greater than 0.9 for men and 0.85 for women
Body fat in excess of 25% for men and 30% for women.
Given these figures it's not actually that hard to see where that 1/3 figure comes from

Don't forget that the statistic is representing the country as a whole. Breaking down that statistic along age groups may reveal more information on what contributes the most to that statistic. I suspect that the UK has a large aging population much like the US. Older people tend to not maintain the level of health they enjoyed while in they were in their twenties. This in turn increases the rate of obesity.

So is this game worth picking up? It's selling like crazy but the commercials make it look boring and horrible like it's just a yoga machine or something.
I don't really care about it's affect on weight/fitness (I can already tell it has none), but is it fun?

My wife and I kind of dig it. It's just a little hard to compare to other games, you know?

I think it's fun. I have no problems recommending it to folks. The strength training and yoga might not be your thing, but even they have an old school 'see if you can beat you previous score' thing to them which makes you want to play them some more.
I do wish there was a bit more variety and an exercise program, though.

I'm so, so bored of being asked for Wii Fit at work... Every other phone call or customer is someone asking if we have them back in stock.
