@ John Mcpoop.

Its terrible for the industry. Companies are seeing that minimal effort can give them maximum profits. So when they continuosly lose money (like Atari, THQ, Eidos, Infogrames, Codemasters etc.) they will either a) go out of business, b) merge with EA, or c) start catering to the casual markets and neglect the hardcore gamers, who are the foundation of the industry.

I like that parents and other people can get into gaming too, but when the fad is over and they go back to not giving a dam about gaming; we are the ones that will be stuck with a 5 to 1 ratio of casual crap games to real games. And if the 80s have taught us nothing else its that weak games = weak industry. When the day comes that everyone wakes up and realizes that alot of these games arent worth the price tag, the industry is going to crash.

**Also I blame Gamestop for alot of this too. Theyve stolen alot of the rightful profits from the developers via their BS pawn system. While theyre making billions in profits, most game companies are barely scraping by. Ridiculous

I think I'll reserve judgement until I see the end game credits.

I haven't bothered to research, but I believe the same guy who directed BG&E is also directing this one.

The first one, as we all agree, was fantastic.

Why does everyone doubt that the same guy would turn the game into something awful? It's the same guy, with the passion to continue on with some great characters.

I'd say that if, prior to the first game being released, there was a story on Joystiq saying 'an essential part of the game play is to take photos of wildlife' then there would be all sorts of negative comments.

I have faith.

Same. It's just that people like to overreact. People need to calm the fuck down and see this one through.

People overreacting? Unheard of! Next your going to tell me that people love to fight for their system of choice, and say that other systems should just die out for no real reason.

SO does that mean Beyond Good and Evil 2 will be a minigame collection, kid friendly or that they are going to make the game easier?

I don't think you need to make it more casual to sell it. They just need a sh*t load of publicity, just look at Halo. If Ubisoft advertises the same way they advertised Assassins creed (minus the lies) it would sell like pancakes.

You guys are talking like if the first game was very hard in difficulty.

Heck, I don't even know why Mario Galaxy was mentioned in this thread. Mario Galaxy is a harder game to complete at 100% than the first Beyond Good and Evil game.

Besides, I don't even know why people are pointing at Nintendo or the Wii.

Nintendo develop hardcore and casual games, with excellent quality both titles.

Is not Nintendo fault that Ubisoft develop that stupid and crappy Dogz and Babiez games.

But they were the ones who showed Ubisoft and such companies that those games could be wildly successful. Still weird, though, I'm seeing so many people acting as if the amount of successful casual games reaches the amount of successful hardcore games.

Fatass...

Every month that the numbers appear, you don't see those shovelwate titles in the chartz. Sure, they sell 200,000 copies and thats a lot of succes because the low development cost.

But the Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime, Zelda, Resident Evil, Guitar Hero, etc... those are the games that sell millions.

Why they dont try and make Nintendo quality-like titles? Why are they so afraid to compete againts Nintendo titles?

casual games aren't necessarily shovelgames. And you're NOT seeing WiiFit, _____ Training, Sonic & Mario, WiiPlay, and Mario parties tearing up the charts?

Besides, here's the problem with your point. Suda 51 put a ton of effort into No More Heroes and much of the shovelware was performing just as well. You wonder why developers aren't putting the effort, would you if you spent a year and a half developing your Wii opus only to see a three month in development Open Season port outsell your masterpiece with basically one tenth of the advertising? Nintendo has profits on their system locked up. It's the other guys that are struggling and you have to wonder how long those guys can let the fight go on.

The truth of the matter is Nintendo has spurred on the casual movement ... I hate speaking in such a broad context but the Nintendo Wii is a casual machine ... I know there are a handful of challenging, engaging and story driven stories but even those have a kid centric undertone. Games like No More Heroes (as mentioned) and a next gen console exclusive like manhunt have not fared any better than say We Ski will do ...

Nintendo just found a way to get everyone and their mother access to video games ... I think it will be a good thing in the long run but it does seem to be running into a backlash from some gamers ... I have a Wii and about 7 games but you can guarantee if it were not for my kids and fiance I would have sold it long ago ... The Wii is a damn fun console when used as its intended ... Playing with everyone and bringing people together ... I have personally never used video games for that ... To me they have always been personal entertainment but the Wii has changed my view on thigs

There is enough place for the Wii and casual games in the industry as well as real story driven more adult oriented games ... Its not going to kill the industry

But the accessibility ruined MK Wii IMO ... Hope it doesn't ruin BGAE

Since when was the original BG&E considered 'hardcore'? I found it pretty easy-going, to be honest.

It just go lost in Ubi's release schedule, losing out in sales to the other IPs launched at the time: Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia.

Thinking about it, it's probably for the best things have worked out this way. A new game is being made because the fans demand it; not because people are blindly buying it coz itz cool. Heaven knows what 'Dark Moody Jade' would have been like!

"Yves notes that the game will be made "more accessible," a supposed improvement from a title that was "probably a little too difficult for the general gamers at that time.""

Oh wow. What? Wait, what? It was a nice little game to be sure, but BG&E was already Zelda-lite to begin with! If they limit the gameplay even further, are we basically gonna be left with a few cutscenes interspersed with "now whack the enemy with the A button"?

"Why they dont try and make Nintendo quality-like titles? Why are they so afraid to compete againts Nintendo titles?"

Because they're the first to tap a relatively untapped market, and will therefore get more success with less effort. We've got a lot of tards saying that everyone will jump ship to casual games, though, which is just ridiculous.

I can understand wanting to tap into a new market that's willing to spend money on crap like Carnival Games, but I just hope Ancel is aware of the shitstorm that will be created if this game abandons those who've clamored for a sequel this whole time.

Beyond Good and Evil was FAR from an inaccessible game. Hell if anything it was pretty basic and linear. If they made the game any easier, even a little, I don't see how it would be enjoyable.

my idea of a real casual game is sonic the hedgehog. its easy to get into due to lack of storyline and one button gameplay, but the difficulty increases as you go on.

Goddamn. People need to stop overreacting. For all we know, making the game accessible to non-gamers can simply mean adding an easier mode similar to what EA is doing with their sports title. Can we at least see what Ubisoft is planning to do with the game before we jump down their throats?

*sigh* Nintendo...why did you have to start the "next generation of gamers" craze?

Am I the only one not really worried? He said at the UBIDays conference that a ton of casual players came in the market last year helping the company's revenue, but an employee at Ubisoft has said that their casual games aren't really raking in the dough and are actually losing them money.

Something is telling me that Yves is just spouting marketing bullshit, and they'll cater to the casual crowd the same way they did in Raving Rabbids 2 (yes they actually did this by the way) - by adding a 'casual-friendly' 'easy' mode that simplifies everything so much its braindead.

Bah. So now they're going to make a super easy, cheesy game, throw in retarded waggle controls, and screw the people that liked the original and wanted a sequel in the first place. Good fucking game.

So...lemme get this straight...

You've got an action-adventure title in vein of Zelda that sold best on the Gamecube originally and doesn't have tons of sex and violence/guns *AND NOW* they're making the game more "casual" supposedly...

...and IT'S *NOT* ON THE WII?! They're putting it on the so-called "hardcore" consoles?!

What. The. FUCK, UBISOFT?!

Way to friggin' doom this game twice, guys.
