Hang about, does this mean DLC makes a difference?

Oh no, wait, it's because a core 360 WITH GTAIV is less than half the price of the cheapest PS3. Actually, it's £30 cheaper than a Wii and Wii Sports.

A core 360 won't be running that DLC though. Unless the DLC fits on them minute memory cards.

You drop the price when you need to. The Wii is outselling everything and its more expensive than the cheapest 360. Nothing has to change. Except the PS3 price.

Tell me if I read this right
"Rockstar's open-world crime romp is said to have sold over 1.3 million copies in the UK, with 57% of sales in the first four weeks going to the Xbox 360. "

How the hell does this translate into "360 selling more than PS3" ?
In every way this is a failure for the 360 - with a 16 month lead in launch time in the UK, they have probably sold less GTA4 units per console than the PS3 - despite paying £50mn for the much vaunted DLC.

I think the article is saying that for every 100 PlayStation 3s sold, 118 Xbox 360s are sold.. and this difference started when GTA IV was released. It then used the split between the two versions' sales to emphasise this point.

I think.

You're right, it's very muddy.

MGS4 will change all that. I think though that this can be contributed to the price cut the 360 recieved, u can get it for cheaper than a wii now. Whats more amazing is the the PS3 version is selling so well with 1 million less of install base in the UK, so its got a much higher attach rate. I think both will be happy, though SONY really needs to lower the price in its best markets and introduce a BC ps3, i feel for u euro's.

Sony wont be releasing a BC machine, that would cost money and they don't spend money on wise investments.

As annoying as console fanboyism has become, it is actually rational behavior. For people who only own one console, they have a vested interest in the failure of competing consoles. Consoles compete for exclusive software. Larger install bases invite more development. Naturally, most Xbox 360 owners would love to play MGS4, and most PS3 owners would look forward to playing Gears 2.

I never had any fanboy feelings before I started to read this site. Actually, I never even heard of a fanboy before I heard it here. But eventually, people start to associate consoles with certain pieces of garbage on this site (Yeah, I'm looking at you Wii60Warrior) and it forces people to take a side.

Theres a difference between wishing a game would come to your system of choice and saying "That right you sony bitches". One is normal and one is completely pathetic.

Intrepyd, I absolutely agree. Fanboys are very rational (as absurd as that sounds). Their actions are directed at discouraging people from playing competitor's console and encourage them to play their chosen console, thereby enhancing the fanboy's pleasure from the system and justifying its choice.

The vicious tactics are very effective, because they are the highest cost that can be inflicted since they produce the opposite of the effect sought from playing games - instead of feelings of win and self-worth, they produce doubt and insecurity.

However, antifanboyism is also rational, since it is based on the belief that if fanboys succeed, there will be a monopoly console, which stifles innovation and raises prices. Those who can afford to buy multiple consoles generally lean antifanboy, those who cant lean fanboy.

This news was predictable. I'd probably be more interested to see it perform in Japan and how console sales are affected there.

Good for 360! (though I'm sure MGS4 will change those numbers)
Anyway, gonna go watch Rambo on Blu-Ray.

This yet again confirms that 360 is for gamers and PS3 is for bluerayboys.

Seriously, games for PS3 are as much of a 5th wheel as games for cell phones. They are nice to have, but they are not the primary use of the system.

Sony's trojan horse didnt steal the VG battle, it galloped away from it to a completely different battle and isnt fighting anymore. I hope sacrificing the PlayStation brand for the sake of BD was worth it, although they basically won by selling players at a loss, which may be an antitrust violation. Hitachi and MS should look into that.

No, I didnt buy an HDDVD. In fact I intend to buy a PS3 once its bundled with a dualshock3. No one said secondary products cant be good. I play solitaire on my phone all the time. :P

Where am I passing anything off as fact? I most definitely state an opinion. Fine, it did not arose anything but dismissal.

As for bile, yeah, I built up a little bile seeing Sony first prideful and then in agony with the PS3. I admire the stoic sacrifices made in the course of its recovery, but I wonder whether it was really worth it.

Moreover, I am still unsure whether PS3 will actually make it out ok in this generation.

Anyone who gets involved in this flame war, fanboy, console debate stuff is wasting their time and completely missing the big picture.

PS1 and PS2 virtually obliterated all competition during their respective life cycles. The original Xbox showed promise, but wasn't supported long enough and came out way too late. However, I do think it was MS' way of testing the waters just to see if they could make a dent. They did.

The 360 has captured a significant percentage of the current gen console market. Yes, it got a head start and now the PS3 is gaining ground. But the key here is that the 360 continues to sell well and has several titles in the works including several exclusives. That is not the sign of a console once again being beaten down by Sony. That is the sign of a console competing effectively with Sony.

So get off your console war high horse. All three systems are doing pretty well at this point. Sony happens to be in third right now and that will probably change. But using the Blu-Ray argument is just lame. To my ears, it translates to "Ok, maybe the PS3 lineup is a bit lacking, but at least we have Blu-Ray!!" When I read news about the PS3, I want to know about the games. I don't care about the movie playback.

Well why wouldn't the 360 sell more in regards to GTA IV? Just think about it!

The 360 is the least expensive way to play GTA IV in HD.
The 360 has the better native resolution between the two versions.
The 360 has identical graphics to the PS3 version.
The 360 version didn't have as many glitches as the PS3 version when released.
The 360 version will have exclusive downloadable content.
The 360 version has the better online experience thanks to stricter control of the service.

If you didn't have either console, the only thing that could tilt the PS3 toward a win if you were buying to play GTA IV would be the ability to watch Blu-Ray movies. If all you care about is playing GTA IV, then the XBox 360 Arcade is only $270 and gets you going with the better GTA experience.
