2K Games announced today that Sid Meier has been entered into the Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition 2008 as the industry's most award-winning developer. Currently working on Civilization Revolution, Meier's awards span a lengthy career so far, with his latest being the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2008 Game Developers Choice Awards.
Meier took the opportunity to thank the critics for their recognition over the years and to plug Civ Revolution in his statement. Speaking of which, buried at the bottom of the press release was the news that Civ Revolution has been delayed until July 8 from its expected June 3 release. Perhaps the delay will allow Meier some time to figure out where he'll store all the Revolution awards?

Because I know that soon this section will fill up with people bashing on Sid Meier and the Civilization legacy because they don't like the games, let me provide a preemptive F-U.

So you've played it then? Any leads on where I can get a copy? I'm really looking forward to it.

2K and Sid have already said that the DS, PS3, and 360 versions will all have the same mechanics. The only differences will be aesthetic. Given the limitations of the DS, this will be a watered down Civ. So, do you and 2k have some super powered DS that I'm not aware of? Where can I get one?

The same mechanics, huh. Wouldn't one think that the DS, with a touchscreen, has a more "PC-like" interface than the PS3 and 360? Given that Civ PC games have never been hardware-intensive in any way, I'd then be more concerned about the PS3 and 360 versions than the DS version...
And no, my super-powered DS is a hack and one of a kind. You can't have it.

Isn't this just going to be a stripped down version of Civ-4? I love Sid, he makes great games, but I'm gonna have to be convinced this particular title isn't jsut Civ for n00bs.

Oh, I didnt think of that, but it would be glorious.
Civ is great, although I agree that nothing beats the initial thrill of Civ and Civ II.
I hope Revolution emphasized the early game more. I never like the industrial are part - its like an turn-based game begging to be RTS. In the early game, the strategic thinking and exploration is better suited to turn-based gaming.

I am looking forward to this. But it'll be one of those games that will go on my "pick up on a later date" list which many times means...never.
I think what they are doing with this is exciting, and Sid Meier is great..and this will probably be a pretty solid game. But there is just so much else..sadly, some things have to take a back seat.

After Sid Meier's Railroads, this is definitely a wait and see title for me. I liked the streamlined (read "dumbed-down") UI, but the thing was extremely buggy and the patches only made things worse before they abandoned it although.
Sid Meier in the title definitely doesn't mean much anymore.

This delay (at least for the US) has been known for months. Europe stayed on June 3rd but the U.S. move to July 8th was announced long ago on the official forums. Unless of course Europe is now delayed too, that'd be new news.
I'm looking forward to this. I love the old Civs (particularly II), but some streamlining is welcomed and of course over XBL as someone else mentioned this could be very nice.
