Kojima talks about pressure and MGS' future
Hideo Kojima, in a recent interview with Reuters, speaks about the pressure placed on him and wrapping up the Metal Gear Solid storyline. Kojima expresses that the pressure to not only sell MGS4, but to help boost PS3 sales, isn't negative pressure to him. He believes that, thanks to a mixed metaphor by the translator, the pressure helped him "push up the bar" to create a sense of "positive pressure."
Kojima also tells Reuters that MGS will always be around, noting that he feels a responsibility to fans to keep the series going, though all the plot lines introduced in the MGS series so far will be wrapped up in MGS4. He says he'll take a different role with the next game and possibly sit in as producer when the "young staff takes control of the new series."

anyone think the new young crew might try to rediscover Snake by cranking out a few prequels?
brandon_r87 @ May 29th 2008 2:06PM
Just end the series here. Let it go out well.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ May 29th 2008 2:06PM
So...he's still planning on making more mgs games?
Isn't this the umpteenth time he's said that this mgs game would be the last and then later on continue to make more MGS games?
FOXHOUND @ May 29th 2008 2:10PM
the last one with Solid Snake as a protagonist*
I swear, Kojima's translator/PR needs to be fired or reassigned elsewhere.
Martez @ May 29th 2008 3:40PM
Last Metal Gear Solid game does not mean last Metal Gear game.
Anyway, I wouldn't mind more games focusing on the time between Snake Eater and the rest of the series.
deaftly @ May 29th 2008 4:04PM
Snake dies in 4 :P
Sir Fidlious Wong (Justin T. McElroy Memorial Burn of the Day Award) @ May 29th 2008 4:08PM
Actually, I would love having Raiden as the lead again.
FOXHOUND @ May 29th 2008 2:09PM
I'm going to 'attempt' to be neutral in saying this, but I don't think any PS3 developer & publisher out there had nearly as much pressure as Kojima/Konami to not only get this game released... but with above-average ratings of a system selling title as well.
Intentless @ May 29th 2008 2:19PM
Squeenix with FF13 is probably pretty close... And that secret team in that bunker working on the 100% accurate graphical overhaul of FF7... The pressure is on for them too....
FOXHOUND @ May 29th 2008 2:28PM
I should've noted that I've taken a vow of silence on anything FFXIII or FFVII-remake related...
Intentless @ May 29th 2008 2:52PM
Oh ok in that case NM... Although I imagine that if god forbid MGS4 isn't as impactful as they hope it is, Resistance and that sequel to that halo killer... God I loved the game and I can't think of the name... anyway... Those two will be getting a lot of push from Sony. I want MGS4 to be good. But seriously even the previous releases as awesome as they were are really only of interest to a set group of fans and not usually the games for the casual gamers...
eNrique @ May 29th 2008 2:09PM
i think Kojima wants to leave the series, and start working on a new game,
i would want to see another masterpiece, not like that shit called gta, we need good games, not crap for the mentally-limited gamer (gta fans)
:s
tmacairjordan87 @ May 29th 2008 2:17PM
The mentally limited gamer plays GTA? You sure you didn't mean halo?
Anyway you might want to recheck that statement of yours and rethink your own mental capacity Mr. Comma
xFenixKnightx @ May 29th 2008 2:27PM
Halo? You sure YOU didn't mean Haze? :D
xFenixKnightx @ May 29th 2008 2:28PM
"Mr. Comma"
Nice! +1 lol
tmacairjordan87 @ May 29th 2008 2:29PM
Yes haze too. I think I lost a couple IQ points playing that demo.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ May 29th 2008 2:46PM
Yes Tmac because people's intelligence is definitely based on what games they kinda play.
ONLY SMART PEOPLE PLAY METAL GEAR SOLID AND WATCH EVANGELION!!!
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ May 29th 2008 2:54PM
That comment was meant for eNrique. I have no idea why I put Tmac.
tmacairjordan87 @ May 29th 2008 3:09PM
You can admit you love me :D
NATO_Duke @ May 29th 2008 3:11PM
If you're writing is an example of stellar thinking - the rest of us are screwed.
xeleion @ May 29th 2008 3:13PM
@ eNrique: Boo to you. I may not like them as much as MGS games, but the GTA games are great in their own right. Your personal taste doesn't define what's good and what's not, and the gaming audience is way to diverse in current times for you to attempt to label on of the highest rated games ever released in such a way.
@tmacairjordan87: Unfortunately, the same thing that can be said about Halo, although to a lesser extent since it's pretty much agreed among gamers as a whole that neither of the sequels are as good as the first one. Personally, though, I agree with your statement.
@ xFenixKnightx: THERE we go. You nailed it. You win. +1 to you.
@ Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo): I don't know what to say here except that I rofl'd when I read your comment. +1 to you. :)
crudo @ May 29th 2008 2:16PM
Does anyone actually know where the MGS series goes from here? If Snake isn't around I really hope Raiden DOES NOT becomes the main character.
tmacairjordan87 @ May 29th 2008 2:18PM
Patience. Play MGS 4 and lets see what happens there first.
BlackFreefall @ May 29th 2008 2:29PM
All the answers will be revealed in due time when MGS 5 arrives.
But for now, let us enjoy MGS 4.
mj @ May 29th 2008 2:33PM
I'm so tired of hearing about this series. Even Halo wasn't COMPLETELY beaten into the ground with hype and breathless soap opera-style gossip.
PojoMofo @ May 29th 2008 2:37PM
you have got to be kidding me
tmacairjordan87 @ May 29th 2008 2:39PM
I can't figure out if that was sarcasm or not. Either way it's hilarious.
FOXHOUND @ May 29th 2008 2:43PM
There was easily more hype over HALO here in North America than *any* MGS game.
el serpiente @ May 29th 2008 2:59PM
mj, now that's just lazy trolling.
HighFiveJesus @ May 29th 2008 3:03PM
when i walk into a bk or a wac arnolds and see Snake on my drink and fries, then we'll talk.
Knight Marquise @ May 29th 2008 3:11PM
"mj, now that's just lazy trolling."
This coming from a hyper-active troller.
NATO_Duke @ May 29th 2008 3:18PM
Buy the Haloz!!!!
There's the song link to aid in remembering the good ol times.

mmmmm....Solid Snake Mountain Dew
el serpiente @ May 29th 2008 5:42PM
Knight, I told you I am not interested in you "that way", so please stop sending me flowers and candy.
Knight Marquise @ May 29th 2008 6:47PM
El Serpiente,
You misconstrued the meaning of my gift.
The "flower" was foxglove and the candy....came from the same company in China that also happens to make toys. :)
xFenixKnightx @ May 29th 2008 2:34PM
"He says he'll take a different role with the next game and possibly sit in as producer when the "young staff takes control of the new series."
Any chance of him meaning Infinity Ward? God that would be the bees knees! :O
///TRIPLE FLAME SHIELD!!!
PojoMofo @ May 29th 2008 2:38PM
why partner with IW when you could partner with Treyarch??
xFenixKnightx @ May 29th 2008 2:43PM
Because...
Partnering with IW = Parades
Partnering with Treyarch = Riots
FOXHOUND @ May 29th 2008 2:45PM
*****SPOILERS******
Admittedly, COD4's scene with the initial nuke explosion was leaps and bounds better than MGS3. I knew Snake had survived island testing with nukes, so I wasn't nearly as stricken with "shock and awe"(pun intended)compared to seeing Jackson's viewpoint of the explosion and aftermath. Pretty effed up stuff... moreso, knowing it could easily happen. :\
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ May 29th 2008 2:48PM
"COD4's scene with the initial nuke explosion was leaps and bounds better than MGS3"
Agreed. Plus being able to play the character during his last few moments. Man that scene was preetty powerful.
PojoMofo @ May 29th 2008 2:49PM
If only Activision would think like that...
xFenixKnightx @ May 29th 2008 3:02PM
The whole fricken campaign is insane. The part when you get taken to get your brains blown out by the terrorists on National TV is sick

(music, the tagger tagging the wall, the execution squad, dogs barking) everything.
Slayer @ May 29th 2008 6:02PM
Fenix, I was told that Flame Shields don't work in a shit storms. Your going to have to do a barrel roll to survive this one.
foxhound421 @ May 29th 2008 2:38PM
as much as i love Solid Snake's character, i also like stories that are finite. it makes sense to me that Solid Snake's story should end here but the Metal Gear series itself keep going perhaps with a new character, or an existing character willing to carry on Solid Snake's legacy. Plus, with all of the cloning, nanotech, gene splicng, etc. going on in the series, it's perfectly believable that the Metal Gear series could continue even with [insert code name] Snake.
i think that after we play MGS4 in a couple of weeks we'll be able to start making more educated guesses as to where the series is going next, presumably without Solid.
PojoMofo @ May 29th 2008 2:52PM
well, you are comparing a 4 year old PS2 game to one of the best current gen games to date, but I certainly agree with you. There were a number of memerable moments in COD4. The sniper mission was one of the best game experiences in my life.
PojoMofo @ May 29th 2008 2:52PM
sorry, reply = broken
in reply to Foxhounds cod4-mgs3 comparision
FOXHOUND @ May 29th 2008 3:08PM
Pojo---
At least the comment didn't get placed chronologically before mine like what happened last week, LoL. XD
*************SPOILERS, again*************
As for the comparison, I meant to add that it was just me comparing the nuke explosion scene in both games. :] Also, that sniper mission was pretty effin' intense... I restarted/continued more times there than I did on "the Hill" in COD2(COD3 doesn't exist in my eyes). I also liked taking "the shot" on Zakhaev, but it would've been nice if we had better support in escaping... which seemed to be a routine occurrance throughout the game.
xFenixKnightx @ May 29th 2008 3:14PM
Agreed. Thanksgiving was held in my new home last year and I had my Media Room packed with about 15 cousins/uncles as I was playing that mission on a 52" Sammy and 1200watt surround sound. Lets just say they were in awe. Good times...
el serpiente @ May 30th 2008 1:09AM
And then when you left the room, they snickered to each other about what a huge nerdbag you are.
Dracard @ May 29th 2008 4:59PM
So...
When is he going to make something that isn't for a Sony console? Just asking...
