Ubisoft coy about Splinter Cell Conviction delay rumors

Ubisoft maintains that rumors of Conviction's delay until late 2009, or possibly 2010, are purely speculative. The company wouldn't elaborate, but did say that Splinter Cell is one of its major IPs and it won't release it until its perfect ... and "it's not yet perfect."

maybe they're doing an alternate reality game where the game is actually "blending" in the "society" of videogames and is actually on the shelves somewhere.
Jfk Aok @ May 29th 2008 11:51AM
So what you're trying to say is that each gamespot should have a sam fischer hiding in their stores. When you go buy this game, he sneaks up on you, grabs you, interrogates quietly, says something clever and witty then breaks your neck.
SAGExSDX @ May 29th 2008 11:53AM
you're making me miss the Splinter Cell games of old
Knight Marquise @ May 29th 2008 12:44PM
Joystick Hero.
+1 for a Princes Bride reference.
Ally @ May 29th 2008 11:12AM
Its ironic that this game still eludes us
eekthecat @ May 29th 2008 11:17AM
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
jsutcliffe @ May 29th 2008 11:18AM
Is it ironic he uses it so?
Joystick Hero @ May 29th 2008 11:22AM
INCONCEIVABLE!
Ally @ May 29th 2008 12:00PM
What? :S
riggs @ May 29th 2008 12:26PM
so this is the joystiq brain trust
MrXBob @ May 29th 2008 11:23AM
Why is this filed under 'Sony Playstation 3' when Splinter Cell: Conviction is exclusive to Xbox 360 and PC?
Burritoclock @ May 29th 2008 11:28AM
Because the delay has obviously been caused by the unannounced PS3 port of the game... ZING!!!
Tip your waitress.
Hyams @ May 29th 2008 11:28AM
All topics to do with delays are automatically filed under PlayStation 3.
Cyro @ May 29th 2008 11:37AM
@Hyams: lol!
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ May 29th 2008 11:44AM
i dont know why people always say "Xbox 360 and PC exclusive" anyway. if its on both, its not exclusive to either. they should just say what they mean, "fuck you PS3 guys, you aint getting it". (and we already know Wii cant handle it so its not worth mentioning).
Mr Awesomer @ May 29th 2008 1:49PM
Fine. It's "exclusive" to systems running a MS OS. Happy?
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ May 30th 2008 2:04AM
@ Mr Awesomer
No.....cause you snapped at me.....:-(
Deck @ May 29th 2008 11:28AM
Well its nice to know they aren't rushing it at least!
Wii60Warrior @ May 29th 2008 11:32AM
I'd welcome a delay actually. Enough games as it is right now...
Casper32 @ May 29th 2008 12:35PM
There's already plenty 'o games coming out soon, besides MGS4 will be taking up my tactical game time.
browntown @ May 29th 2008 12:38PM
woo Delaybox. After the whole assasins creed debacle, im guessing they want to re do some of the missions. This game could be cool, though i feel as if sam fisher is a little chubier, and they changed up the art direction. I hope it's daylight alot, i hate night time missions, can't see much.
Jake11 @ May 29th 2008 12:42PM
delaybox huh? that's so clever...
Knight Marquise @ May 29th 2008 12:47PM
I've never cared for the Splinter Cell series, nor the MGS series for that matter...just can't get into that game type.
Automag @ May 29th 2008 12:49PM
If they stuck to the formula that Chaos Theory implemented, I would be a very happy Splinter Cell fan. I realize that they are trying to avoid "more of the same" with the whole crowd-blending mechanic, but my favorite parts of Splinter Cell was the hiding-in-the-shadows-waiting-to-murder elements. Putting this franchise in the hands of those who made Chaos Theory i'm confident that they would be able to inject further refinement to the gameplay while maintaining the atmosphere they established previously. Then again, who am I to submit an opinion. Ubi might just make this addition an Assassin's Creed clone with less running and climbing. Maybe i'm the only one that doesn't need the gameplay to be changed.
xGeneral DEATHx @ May 29th 2008 1:13PM
I'm with you on this one, Automag...loved Chaos Theory, but didn't particularly enjoy Double Agent. The co-op in Chaos Theory was my favorite part; too bad we didn't get a co-op mode like that on DA (except on the Xbox port, from what I understand). I'm sure this new Splinter Cell will be a different experience, but I'm hoping and praying that since it's the same development team, perhaps they will take their time and produce a stellar title.
Magetto @ May 29th 2008 1:33PM
You're not the only one. I do wish they would have kept and further refine the Chaos Theory gameplay.
MrBubbles @ May 29th 2008 1:46PM
This is one of the games that I have been looking forward to for a while. Although most people hate the direction that Splinter cell is heading, I really want to see what they end up doing with Conviction. Hopefully its not delayed until 2010.
Mr Awesomer @ May 29th 2008 1:50PM
"The company wouldn't elaborate, but did say that Splinter Cell is one of its major IPs and it won't release it until its perfect ... and "it's not yet perfect."
---then how to they explain "Double Agent" getting released?
Pointz @ May 29th 2008 7:05PM
Shanghai Studios (Pandora Tomorrow) Made the 360 version of Double Agent and Montreal made Chaos Theory, also working of Conviction. I wouldn't be surprised if Shanghai made another SC to fill in the gap.
ovenmittbandit @ Jun 10th 2008 2:19PM
Double Agent wasn't that bad, I enjoyed it. Wasn't as good as Chaos Theory, but definitely not a bad game.
