Wario Land fans won't have to worry about their oft-forgotten favorite platformer making an awkward transition to 3D. Wario Land Shake, first revealed yesterday, will feature old-school 2D platforming flavor, akin to Super Paper Mario's better moments.
A Japanese fact sheet -- lovingly translated by the NeoGAF community -- describes the gameplay as being largely 2D, with hand-drawn animation and backgrounds, and the requisite Wiimote waggling interactivity (hence the "Shake," we presume). According to the fact sheet (and according to NeoGAF), the game is slated for a 2008 release. You know, for now.

Too be honest I would like to see more 2D.5 platformers.
2D gameplay with 3D graphics = pure awesomeness but nonetheless old school hand drawn animation sounds very interesting. I hope this isn't wiiware I don't have a wifi connection.

i love 2D platformers. certainly the best kind of platformers hands down. New Super Mario Brothers was one of the best games i think ive ever played. i always feel the urge to fully complete games, but i never actually liked a game enough that i could actually do it until i played NSMB. ill take more 2.5D platformers any day.

... Seriously? One of the most brilliant platformer series of all time, one that I'd even say rivals Mario's 2d outings coupled with some of the best bosses Nintendo has ever come up with (The 1 on 1 basketball fight in Warioland 2 is a classic) and the best you can say is ehhh?
Wtf, man.

If it's better than 4, it can't be a bad thing. It looks a bit odd at the moment but I can't see Ninty bodging this one up.

Has potential. My little sister always tried to use the old NES controller like it had motion controls back in the day.

I'll be all over this one, I imagine. A full out 2D platformer from Nintendo? Hell yes!
At least SOMEONE is making good, high quality games for the Wii...isn't that right, Ubisoft?

Your point would be valid if Ubisoft had there own console to promote. But they don't, so there main priority is selling games. If the Wii doesn't fit in to there business plan, tough shit.
And it's a little too early to call it "high quality" from a few magazine scans.

Ubisoft doesn't have to give the consumer a reason to buy a Wii, Nintendo does. That's why they have to make quality games to sell their system. Ubisoft, on the other hand, can make as many shitty games for the system as they want as long as they make a decent return. Ubisoft sells games, not systems.
The fact of the matter is that Nintendo has to step up and make some good games when Third-party companies won't. On the same token, Nintendo's array of high quality first-party games can scare away third-party developers trying to compete with Nintendo.

I'd like to be excited about this, but I'm just jaded enough to think "Meh, they'll find some way to screw it up". The WarioLand game on DS was extremely mediocre. Most of the platforming parts of Super Paper Mario were extremely bland, and it was too story/cutscene-oriented to really be considered a platformer anyway (not that it was trying to be a true platformer, I found out to my disappointment). My money's on the whole "shake" thing being overused and getting old/annoying really quickly.

Nice to see some 2D platformers, but too bad Wario is balls. Bring on a metroid, Donkey Kong Country or a New Super mario world.

Holy shit. Hell yes. I loved the Wario 2D games (Especially Wario Land 2) and I loved Master of Disguise. Though, hopefully this will return the game to being like Wario Land 2 maybe. WL2 was awesome.

Warioware is awesome and will forever be awesome. Warioware Twisted was my personal favourite, but they are all really fun.

I'm really hoping this will be better than New Super Mario Bros. (Not that the game was necessarily bad, but it did pale in comparison to some of the previous 2D mario titles.)
Come to think of it, I did enjoy the Wario Land titles back in the Gameboy's monochrome days. Wario World on the gamecube, however, wasn't all that great though.
(I Still haven't tried the DS Wario title though...)

lol, the DS isn't good? I fail to understand why you would think that, but whatever, you mentioned WarioWare Twisted which is Nintendo's best minigame compilation and should be owned by anyone who's a fan of pick-up and play fun.

Last Wariogame I played was WarioLand 4 on the GBA. I want to try Wario World but I heard here (http://www.expotv.com/Wario-World/3e-Y1J) that its a huge pile of garbage. The gameplay also looks lame. Can anyone provide any positive words about this game or should I avoid it?
