Haha, it takes a sequel to get people to pick up the first one. That's just classic. Still, it's certainly worth $10 if you're into the genre.

The PS2 version is somewhat dodgy?

I played it on PS2 and don't recall having noticeable problems. Can someone who played the other versions tell me what I missed?

I've had this game for ages, and I've still haven't bothered to get any distance through it. I may just give it a shot once my exams finish. :]

I got the PS2 version from Fry's a few months ago for $6. They had a handful, but not sure if they're still availible or not.

Steam download for me.
I actually sold my copy of the game when I sold my original Xbox.
Doesn't that just grind your gears?

I got really lucky when I got my copy. When joystiq had that thread about the rumor of BG&E returning, I stopped at a couple of Gamestops until I found the last ps2 copy for $8. I was pretty happy.

Yes, you were the sole voice of reason in an age of madness.. Which is why the game got glowing reviews.

Fact: The reason it didn't sell well is because it was marketed poorly. Case closed.

I found the Game Cube version for ten dollars at a second hand store once. I got to the part where I rescued that big brain damaged guy and kind of lost interest. It's a good game, but I can't commit to it. xP

It's wasted on me!

Just popped this game into my PS2 (still had my gamesave from like 3 years ago). The game looks really grainy on my HDTV. Might get the PC version... or just wait for the sequel.

Sorry, don't mean to rub it in if I am, but I guess this is a bit serendipitous for me.

I decided I wanted BG&E about three weeks ago and managed to find the only GameCube version in St. Louis County. I'm really glad I decided to drive way the hell out to the 'burbs to get it -- now everyone will be looking for a copy.

Good luck to those that are searching -- keep it up, the game is COMPLETELY worth it!

@NATO_Duke

You're absolutely right. I didn't mean to make it sound like it was the last copy left in the world, but most of the places I searched online were selling used versions (of unknown disc quality) for about $30. I trust used game quality from GameFly, but not much else. An "acceptable quality" rating at Amazon runs about $30. Plus, you'd add about $5 shipping onto that.

Buying a new, sealed BG&E these days can run you up to $80. I don't want to spend that much money.

I guess my point is why bother spending twice as much to get something used online (being unsure of the quality, as well) when you can just go and buy it for $12-15 locally (and you can check the disc before you buy it, too).

So yes, I see your point. You're absolutely right, but for me, this was the right decision. And I hope other people on budgets are as lucky as I was in finding this game, as it is absolutely worth it.

You could also download the full version on Fileplanet for about 400 or 500 points (maybe cheaper, I can't remember). So if you opt to pay for a year's subscription for Fileplanet ($40 annually) you get 500 free points, which is enough to get BG&E. Not the cheapest way to get BG&E for sure, but that's how I got introduced. Being a subscripber is fairly worth it if you're into downloading a lot of things from fileplanet, and a free game that is nontheless awesome makes it eve sweeter.

NOTE: the game, at least what is downloaded from fileplanet, isn't quite compatible with Windows Vista, but runs on windows XP perfectly. If you experience issues with Vista (like major, MAJOR artifacting), turn off anti-aliasing and try again. That usually gets rid of most artifacts and makes the game 100% playable.

Got this about one year ago for the PS2 for 8 bucks. Never finished it cause I got my 360 just a few weeks after buying it. Sits right next to my unfinished copy of Okami. Sorry. One day I'll go back and finish them.

I will add that with my little time with the game I do have to add to the "its good but what is so GREAT" about it inquiry. Psychonauts is way better. How about a sequel to that game?

Its worth noting that according to HDTVArcade.com, the PS2 and Xbox versions offer 480p while the GC version does not.

None offer 16:9 sadly, though the Xbox version, I know, is sort of letter boxed.

I will play it again, but not until it's in some sort of widescreen/Hi Def. You know what letterboxed 480p looks like blown up. The hopefully now surefire 360 bc patch should do this, right?

Why is the PS2 version "somewhat dodgy"?

The reason I ask is because I got the PS2 version and there was a glitch that prevented me from making progress in the game after a certain point. Was it well known to have problems like this or was I just unlucky?

I also bought the GC version just last year but never managed to take the time to play/finish it.

I went out and bought a used copy of Beyond Good & Evil for the Gamecube, for use with my Wii. I slid in the disc and was shortly presented with the option for English or Spanish. I pushed "A" on my Wavebird and nothing happened. Well, I figured that it was an incompatibility with the Wavebird, so I went out and bought a wired controller, go thome, and ran in to the same problem. Is it possible that BG&E isn't compatible with the Wii?
