80GB MotorStorm packs discontinued
26
File this under the "no duh" category. The current 80GB pack, which includes a SIXAXIS controller, 80GB PS3 system and a copy of MotorStorm is no longer being sent to retailers. "Retailers aren't getting any new inventory of the 80GB Motorstorm bundle," a Sony rep told Joystiq. However, on June 12th, the 80GB PS3 bundle will be replaced by the much more attractive Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle. For the same price, purchasers will get a rumble-ready DualShock 3 controller and a copy of the biggest game of the year forever. That's a pretty sweet deal.

No new cooling system, just more energy efficient chipsets.
Like he said, it doesn't matter for the PS3.

I wouldn't say it doesn't matter. The PS3 is only described as "quiet" because it's compared to the 360, but it's still fairly loud, definitely the 2nd loudest console ever and also the 2nd loudest piece of consumer electronics ever built (and I have mine sitting right next to an HTPC - so it's louder than a computer).

You're saying that instead of getting MotorStorm - a "simply excellent" game (per Eurogamer), we are now stuck with MGS4 - "a frustrating, fractured game" according to said critic? Oh where do I sign up???
....And there is the problem with reviewers and review scores. Eurogamer gave both games an 8 out of 10... Something is wrong here. :)

"and a copy of the biggest game of the forever"'
I'm going to be perfectly honest with you Andrew. That doesn't make sense.

You've never been to the "Forever Realm"?
It is a place of vast wonders, beyond space and time, and filled with endless possibility. MGS4 was begotten there, forged in the eyes of the dragon at the nexus of the universe.

There, you can add that to your list of things that don't make sense.

Did you really fail to notice Andrew forgot to extend his strikethrough to include *the*? I suspect not; I expect you're flaming a staff writer for *incorrect text formatting*, which strikes me as a wee tad petty.
Perhaps it would be more useful to call Andrew's attention to the error and ask him to fix it.
Andrew: your text should read "biggest game of the year." Please fix it with whichever formatting you use for strikethroughs (css, etc.).

My post was stripped of tags and now makes no sense. It should have read as follows (here's the non-coded version): "Please change it to read 'biggest game of (strikethrough)the year(/strikethrough) forever.'"
Still, "of forever" is a tad clumsy. I'd have replaced "of the year" with "since forever," which is standard colloquial usage.

What I don't get is why people say Sony is "discontinuing" the bundle, when it actually says right on the box "limited edition". How is this news? As a matter of fact the MGS bundle is a limited edition pack as well, is Sony going to "discontinue" that as well. Now the 20/60 GB system, I would consider that discontinue because there is a distinct difference between these and the systems out today.

Now that we know what Sony's up to this time around...
I'll pass. I will wait for the Final Fantasy XIII Limited Edition 80GB bundle that will probably come with not only DS3 controllers, but 45nm cell processors, smaller heatsink, smaller formfactor, and smaller, but more precise laser.

Then you have a VERY long wait. PS3 Slim wont be out for at least another 18 months.
Still your loss...

Motorstorm should be a Greatest Hits title soon, should it not? Anyone know when North America will get some ps3 Greatest Hits?

We all know this is leading to yet another SKU shuffle!

I don't care if it shrinks in size or not. As long as its an Final Fantasy XIII bundle. The moment that game comes out for PS3, I'm buying one. If I get to buy it in a bundle, sweet.

I, too, am waiting on a new SKU that sports the DS3, a good game and the new thermal design, so hopefully this one will. I don't think Sony is going to come out and say anything about the thermal design revamp either so we will probably have to wait on someone to tell us that it does.

It may be attractive price wise, but it sure as hell isn't visually attractive. To be honest, that gun metal looks like complete shit.

Gosh guys what is the problem!? This isn't RROD territory! PS3 runs hot - yes, but it also has a cooling system that can keep up with the temperature. All that hot air around the system.. is air being pushed OUT and AWAY from the system. As for noise, yea, the system is a wee bit loud when the fan kicks into high, but thats also when I've been playing for ever.. and shouldn't you be playing your game with the volume so that you wouldn't even notice the fan???? I always hated the sony slimline designs - except the psp.
I have a phatty launch ps2, and a phatty ps3. I can't ever imagine a slim ps3, it's too damn sexy and powerful to be shrunken.
